My boy that I had for 16 years was a fiend for roses. He treated them like salad and destroyed/knocked over any arrangement. If there were a dozen he would sample at least a bite of all 12. Never seemed to harm him. I miss Cash.
Mother in law plants are toxic to cats, and my mother in law is toxic to me, 😂 . How fitting! Thanks for the video! Before I got my kittens I loved my house plants, now I want to make sure they both can live in harmony. 😀
white phalaenopsis orchids - safe for cats and very beautiful. Get the large tall ones sold with two stems... makes a nice statement piece in the center of your dining table
As someone who sells and has over 200 houseplants with two cats, here’s what I learned 😂: It’s safe to assume all plants are toxic to pets. Most of the time it depends on what kind and how much of the sap/juice ingest. For instance, in a tropical plant, like a pothos, the leaves are very thin and don’t contain a lot of juice. Most of the juice is in the stems, but cats typically go to the leaves. Plants like a succulent, which have more plump leaves, contain more juice. Most of the time they only ingest enough to throw it up later with no serious problems. Then there are some cactus that produce a milky sap that are extremely poisonous to pets. Other plants I’ve learned from other plant and pet owners are lillies, peace lillies, and sago palms.
I'm glad to see this posted. Btw, my cat loves to eat roses in my bouquets. I did look that up for safety the first time it happened. I hope to grow some indoor plants for my cats soon, just haven't done so yet. They can't go out for fresh grass.
NO LILLIES!! We have owned many cats for more than 30 years and somehow never knew about lillies. One day our 20 year old male cat nibbled on a piece of a leaf that had fallen from the plant and got very sick for several days in the Emergency clinic. We got lucky that he survived, but we learned our lesson. NO LILLIES!!
No plant or flower is safe from one of my cats - even artificial silk or plastic plants. If it's green, he'll chew it. The plants I have are a couple of Basil plants, an Aloe Vera, a mini Orchid and a Mother-in-Law's Tongue (succulent with very long leaves that are nearly 2ft high). These are kept in my kitchen and bathroom - two areas the cats are banned from. Might seem odd that the cats are banned from the kitchen but the same one who chews anything green, twice nearly blew us up by jumping on the stove and turning on the gas taps. Luckily, we're in the UK where we use natural gas which can't gas you.
I've never had one be able to tell me so I have to look everything up while there. Sometimes it's easier to take note of the smaller list of what's safe and stick with that. Vet bills are way too high and it can kill them! Let's all start asking them to ask their supplier to label their plants if their safe or toxic to cats and dogs!
When you were speaking about chrysanthemums, the flowers you showed are what I would call daisies. The chrysanthemum that I’m familiar with looks very different and, as it is inexpensive, is often found in pre-made store bouquets. . (Years ago they were THE flower for buttoniers) Please clarify so I’ll know which to avoid. Thanks!
Hi there! Good observation. To my understanding, daisies are a form of chrysanthemum, and therefore the same safety issues apply to them. www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/chrysanthemum
thank you for the video, it's helpful as always! oh, and one thing. this might be not related with plant-things in the video but can you please do a review of purina pro plan? i live where almost all brands of cat food in the market are contains with corn, wheat, rice, or basically carbs instead of meat, fish, chicken, or any products that should be in the top 5 for cat food. my cats' vet said that it's good so i fed them to my cats and they like it but after some research i kinda started to think it's not... that good😔 so please, if you have time for reviewing purina pro plan i would be so happy. thank you!😊
I had a 6 month old kitten get into stargazers lilies my husband bought me before Christmas. I had no clue about the danger of lilies and have had cats my entire life. Within 24 hours of contact and after the vet tried everything they could to save her, we had to let her go on Christmas Eve. I was devastated. I hope no one ever has to go through that. 8 years later I have two kittens and every plant in my house is safe for cats. My husband has never and will never buy me flowers ever again. He was traumatized as well. Sophie died of kidney failure within 24 hours of contact. 💔
What an awful thing to experience. I won't even have any kind of lily in my garden either. My cats are all indoor cats but there are many cats in our neighbourhood and I would hate to think any of them would get poisoned by something I have in my garden. I try and plant cat friendly and bee friendly plants.
I'm extremely sorry that happened. Y'all didn't know. Good for you to raise awareness. I think we should push for florists to ask if people need cat and/or dog friendly bouquets. I also wish it was a requirement that anyone selling a flower or plant needs to label whether it's safe for them or not. It could certainly save a lot of lives and a lot of heartache!!

My strategy for having plants in the house is to assume they are all potentially harmful to my cat, and I always keep them away from him. Sometimes, the it’s cat that is harmful to the plant! And I want to avoid that, too.
Hi I am watching your video because 3 months ago my cat died from a decease and age, I need to know what kind of flowers are safe for cats, as my first cat who I love from 2005-2023, he loved Daisies and Forget-me knot flowers, as he was a grey cat cat and her loved the smell, but he never tried to eat them justice to look at them. I really thought to look what other kinds of flowers as I’m going to a gardening shop tomorrow, and I need to check as I’m going to put my cat’s ashes in a pot then flowers all over as he always loves flowers, so please help me out and other people who may ask you the same in the future, I also got a new cat as well.
I know I'm way late, but anytime you want to know just do a search asking if daisies or whatever are toxic to cats. Lots of articles will pop up. You could also do a search for flowers that are safe for cats.
I have lived in a house with front and back yard azaleas for almost 30 years now, and none of the outside cats that I have fed over the years have ever taken any interest in them or been affected by them.
I've always grown cat grass or let my kitty out for a bit to chew on grass ( not treated with chemicals).. Also he will chew on my spider plant occasionally. Never attempts to go after the aloe or pothos. It's Insane what pet stores want for cat grass. I go to the health food store and get wheat grass for half the price.
Im planting cat nip and cat Grass today and a is next week any litter reviuw beacuse im mising that a lot and im sorry I wont be Abel be on live since it wil be midnigt ♥️♥️and so cute murch 💓💓😻😻😻😻😻😻😻🐾🐾I love it😻🐾🐾

My cat likes to sit on a bed side cabinet which has a monstera deliciosa, and peace lilly on it, with a marble queen going down next to it, he only sniffs them and isn't interested in them. Is it safe to say I can get another toxic ish plant and place it there?
I hate it, but all typical Christmas plants are really bad for cats. Starting with the sharp needles of the Christmas tree. Those can do harm when swallowed. I have a fake tree, but my stupid cats try to nibble on the fake needles that fell of the tree. Plastic can't be good either, so I make sure to vacuum a lot around the tree. Lucky for me they are not really interested in the tree (or even the ornaments) itself. But then... Poinsettia / Christmas Stars, Mistletoe, Holly, Christmas roses / hellebore & Amaryllis are all poisonous for cats. :-( Too bad I love all of these. Hmmm, interesting question! There are some nice aromatic herbs that are safe for cats, including rosemary, parsley, thyme, and mint. The Pilea Plant or "friendship plant" is good for helping to purify air and is also safe for cats. Alternatively, most non-paraffin scented candles are safe for cats.
Yes, my best friend got me into melting lemon wax squares in a pot. It's a popular name brand I can't think of at the moment, but it's not overpowering just smells nice!

I always ask at the nursery if a plant is toxic for cats before I purchase. A good nursery will be able to advise you.

Interesting. I have 3 cats indoor/outdoor, and my yard is full of Lillie’s. Cats sleep and hide in them. Never an issue.
You've been extremely lucky they haven't chewed on any part of them. The flower, stem, and leaves of every type of lily are toxic!
My cat loves roses so I don’t think the statement is true. I have also heard babies breath is toxic so I’m conflicted with this information.
My cats eat my roses constantly

So Catnip is toxic to cats according to that website, is that just if they eat a lot of it?
Yes, I noticed that as well. Consuming large amounts of catnip can cause digestive upset.
