Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL!
At this point and seeing you already have a ton of great info, I'd like to remark that they are very diverse musically (as you found out) only that not all the genres are in the same song (except for "iine"... joking! 🤣). "RoR" is almost 100% power/speed metal. If you prefer some prog metal, they have it, if djent is your thing, they have it... death metal nu-metal, metalcore... and all of that mixed with any other music genre: pop, rock, EDM, hip-hop, ska, salsa, folk, etc. So my usual recommendation is: always expect the unexpected. 😁
I second the suggestions for "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html
    Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey!

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey🦊🤘🔥
Nice you got this song to start the BM journey, it's not just another song on BM setlist but also like here, it's the ender for the show at The Babyklok Tour around the US and everyone loves to have fun with this one.
There's light and dark in BM songs so always expect the unexpected.
_Road Of Resistance_ is a power/speed metal song, is one of their most epic anthem and got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce. Is all about facing your own path without looking back.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015, live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena, by this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan, and 20K souls witnessed this epic moment.
With only 15 and 17 years old this moment will be forever remember when they performing this song to reminds them all the support they got from their fans no matter where they go, either a small or big stages.
The Kami Band here are magnificent set of elite musicians whom were send to help with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarists).
    They are:
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums.
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio' Fujioka's pupil (another beloved Kami Band guitarist who sadly past away) and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but his fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get more clips safe to react if YT allows me to do it, meanwhile next suggestion:
    - Headbanger!! live at Legend 1997, Gans Tomas and abr metal got that clip under Head Bangya title.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      ua-cam.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/v-deo.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/v-deo.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      ua-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/v-deo.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      ua-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/v-deo.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/v-deo.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      ua-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/v-deo.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      ua-cam.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/v-deo.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      ua-cam.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/v-deo.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      ua-cam.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/v-deo.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      ua-cam.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/v-deo.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/v-deo.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      ua-cam.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/v-deo.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      ua-cam.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/v-deo.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      ua-cam.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/v-deo.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      ua-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/v-deo.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      ua-cam.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/v-deo.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL performed this song in your country this year on April 28 at Avicii Arena in Stockholm as a special guest to Sabaton's Europe tour. There is a strong tie between the two bands. Actually Joakim Brodén joined in one of BM songs.
BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover). We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)

    👍 👍
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 60 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these HQ Pro Shot videos of LIVE performances for a start.

Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊This video was from January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena. Su-metal (lead vocalist) was 17, Yuimetal and Moametal only 15 and that was over 20,000 people completely under their control. Even at that age Su just looks at the crowd, spreads her arms and the crowd opens up for a wall of death (actually several walls of death at that concert as the crowd were in sections. A journalist up in the balcony that night said he counted, I think it was, 21 mosh pits).
This was also the end of a 90 minute concert - they had been keeping that same energy up without any drop in quality for the whole time. It is what they do - they appreciate people have often paid a lot of money and travelled a long way to see them, they never give anything less than 100% for every song at every concert, whether that is one of their big arena concerts in Japan or at the many various sized venues as they tour the world.
About the song itself - 'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
As you read, Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song (it is the only one they were involved in) and recorded the guitars for the album version. They have said they made this more technical and faster than most of their own songs thinking they would never have to play it live ... and that they had to practice hard when they did perform it with BABYMETAL at an awards show in London later in 2015.
This was the Kami Band (BABYMETAL's backing band for all live shows) playing live, each one of them is a world class musician. In this concert the Kami Band were Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars (Takayoshi has the glitter pink guitar) with BOH on his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.
BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre fusing Metal with JPop aesthetics (they called it Kawaii Metal - kawaii means cute as in adorable) and their own way of doing things. Now they mix all sorts of different styles and genres with the metal. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal).
They started in 2010 aged 12, 11 and 11. Now, 13 years on, they are internationally the most successful Japanese band (domestically there are many much bigger artists, but their success has been limited or is even non-existent outside of Japan).
They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and, since the start of April this year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in).
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues.
After Yui left Su and Moa continued as a duo through to their 10th anniversary and a bit beyond for the next 4-5 years, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member on 1st April this year.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami band as they all have their own bands or other commitments and they swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have played the vast majority of concerts and they are the ones you will see in most live performance videos.
The Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions.
The Kami Band of the West - American musicians - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019.
BABYMETAL have nearly 70 songs now, each one different to the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between.
Their official videos are all very good and worth seeing, but BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves.
I'm sure you will be getting lists of recommendations for more songs to react to - and you won't go wrong with any of their songs. I will suggest just one for now, so for something different that isn't power metal try 'Headbanger' live at the Legend 1997 concert - actually from December 2013 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997.
You can find high quality videos for that performance that are safe to use for a reaction posted by either abr metal or Gans Tomas.

Thank you very much for your well written comment, it is really appreciated!
They seem to be really right up my alley in terms of musical adversity, while still "making it" / getting famous, and while also having a big connection with their crowd. All those 3 things are very hard to nail down at the same time and they did it!
Thank you very much for the details and backstory of the band. I read through it all and wow, it is amazing that they started at such a young age!
I am now very interested to dig deeper into their catalogue.

@@UntitledtotheGrave You are most welcome. I have only given you the most basic details of their history, I could go a lot deeper and they also have a lot of lore surrounding them and their performances that is good fun (but often confusing).
There are a couple of very good guide videos explaining their history, but watch a few more songs first so you get a better idea of what they are about and so you can see just how diverse and different their songs are ... I think you will enjoy what they do, especially if you like a lot of variety in your music.
The connection with the crowd is very important to them - they call their fans "The One" and they are including the fans, the Kami Band, the lighting and sound engineers, set designers, their choreographer, song writers, producer ... everybody is included.
Even the dancing is designed to involve the crowd, giving them their cues to jump, pump their fists, shout, chant, sing along and so on.
I will look forward to watching you dig deeper ...

Well, you’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has been around for a bit over twelve years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (or the “Greek chorus” as I like to call them - officially "scream and dance" and backing vocals) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018, and only earlier this year Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. If you have a notion to check out more BABYMETAL, I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. I'm sure you will find both very entertaining. There is a playlist on UA-cam ("BABYMETAL Top Twenty") that includes those two songs and the one you just reacted to; I highly recommend you give it a look, it has a mix of MV’s and live performances, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole (you're in for a wild ride!!!).
    Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!!
    We are . . . BABYMETAL!!!

Fun reaction, thank you! Babymetal is amazing. Youngest female led band to play Bukodan, first Japanese band to play Wembley (uk), about thirty industry awards in the last decade including best metal band, best live band multiple times. They do excellent studio work/albums, but live performances like the one you watched are where they really shine. They are not for everyone of course (no group is) but undeniably fantastic at what they do.
A quick detail on the band name, it is a play on words in Japanese:
    Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Bebīmetaru)
    Heavymetal (Japanese: ヘビーメタル, Hebīmetaru)
Some other favorites from their older work (all from live concerts, searchable as posted below)
BabyMetal - Headbanger Live Legend 1997 (Legend 1997 refers to lead singer Su-Metal birthyear, this concert is her 16th birthday, its great)
Babymetal - Akatsuki「紅月 -アカツキ-」| LIVE at Budokan Black Night (Su-Metal solo)
Babymetal - MEGITSUNE「メギツネ」(Five Fox Festival ver.) (this particular version has "red fox festival live" audio, it was a one night concert for women/girls only, the song has a strong theme of women empowerment, its brilliant to listen to the audience interaction parts)
BabyMetal - Death Legend 1997 Apocalypse Live (heavy metal theater, last song in the Legend 1997 concert)

Hi, nice first reaction. I hope you continue reacting to more babymetal :)
It's funny when you read the genres that babymetal can belong to, they are a very experimental band, at their core they are a Jpop-metal band, but they have songs from practically all the subgenres of metal. So you can tell us what your favorite metal subgenres are and we can suggest Babymetal songs that you might like.

This is not a bad song introduce someone to Babymetal with. It's more fast paced maybe, but all their songs have a hook or twist. If you just want pure awesome, then I recommend their song "Headbanger" live @ legend 1997 concert

They did not do a song with Rob Halford. They played the Painkiller and Breaking the law with him on a award show. And yes they are in their twenties now but you have to consider that the video you watched is about 8 years old. So they were like 15 or 16 in that video.

I am glad you checked them out and like your open-minded attitude towards music that is maybe atypical from the normal genres in metal. You are right that they performed on stage with Rob Halford, and also Red Hot Chili Peppers and with Skrillix. This song was written with Herman Li and Sam Trotman of the British power metal band Dragonforce who performed on the studio track. They also have tracks with Tim Henson and Scott LePage of Polyphia, Joachim Broder of Sabaton, Tom Morello (as you mentioned), Bring Me the Horizon (on a BMTH ep), Thai rapper F. Hero, and American rapper Lil Uzi Vert. There are definitely metal purist who hate on them, but many artists recognize their talent and the fact that they are trying new things in the genre and respect them for it.

I think you are right to not be too concerned about what genre the music is. Babymetal are not much concerned themselves. This seems common to me for the Japanese rock/metal scene. And the best bands (and there are many) have there own distictive appeal.
As a long-time fan used to say: "Always more Babymetal forever!"

  • @Ganimal83

Nice! Glad you enjoyed this one. It’s one of my favorite performances by Babymetal.
Babymetal is definitely unique, but “Obscure” may be incorrect by the time of this performance. This show was a 20K sold out show in Jan 2015. The year before, they performed main stage infront of a 50K UK crowd at Sonisphere. Later in 2015, they performed on stage at Download Festival UK with Dragonforce, which collaborated with them on this song (Herman Li & Sam Totman co-wrote guitars).
They are definitely young, 12 / 11 in 2010 when they recorded their first song, 17 / 15 at time of this show, 25/24 today.
Other reaction suggestions (do them live):
1). Tales of The Destinies: Prog Metal masterpiece, nod to Dream Theater.
2). Gimme Chocolate: Thrash metal + ultra poppy vocals, a very fun, but divisive song. This is Babymetal’s “meme hit” that went viral world wide.
3). Karate: Djent + hard rock
4). Monochrome: one of their newer songs in 2022, very well put together hard rock with metal elements.
5). Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014): lead Su-metal Solo, with epic Kami Band intro, dark and heavy.
6). Akatsuki (Budokan 2014): Another Su-metal solo, epic, operatic power ballad, with a fast driving tempo.
7). Onedari Daisakusen (Legend 1997 concert): Yuimetal & Moametal duet without Su-metal. Nod to Limp Bizkit / Nu-metal, and a deathly adorable song about spoiled little girls begging dad for money to buy them things.
    Look forward to more! 🤘🦊

    BABYMETAL 101
Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal).
The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (25 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance. Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (23 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal (20 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.)
    Past Formations.
    Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012)
From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consists of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature, which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them.

    Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017)
Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all-power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show “I” was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own.
Babymetal as it is with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of its existence. Also established beyond the 3-member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui.

The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018)
In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost, leaving behind his wife and only child.
In September 2018 Yui formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand)
In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history.

    Distortion
Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story if they claim it is they are 100% lying to you.)
Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020)
First introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH.
    Music Videos of this Era
    Pa Pa Ya
    Elevator Girl
    Shanti Shanti
    Da Da Dance
    (Avenger confusion)
Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before.
Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it.

COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021)
COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans at the time was what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has moved on to other projects, including starting a fan club. Kano Fujihara graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4-month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaft Momoko Okazaki who is a graduate of Sakura Gakuin in March 2018 would be the last standing Avenger until she would become the new member of Babymetal.
      Music Videos of this Era

      Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-September 2022)
The band stepped back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. The band spent time working on a new concept album and was never shut down for a hiatus.
Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition destroying all the other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She was blonde for a bit). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round.
The Other One (October 2022-April 2023)
They have released 5 songs on UA-cam, they performed a show in January 2023 where they performed these new songs leading up to the released of their Album in March with 10 new songs. During January and February shows Su and Moa were supported by Momoko. On April First (Fox Day) Their new show played many new and old songs as well as officially made Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal the official 3rd member. Bringing Babymetal back to a 3-member unit once again. This all kicked off their world tour in touring with Sabaton in Europe then Asia and Australia, and tours in US in the fall and a solo tour in Europe in winter, with a tour finally in Japan in 2024.

I'm a Swede who discovered Babymetal about a year ago and later saw them in Stockholm in April where they were special guests on Sabaton's tour. I also got a ticket for their own tour when they return next month. Finding them has honestly been a life changing experience. I can't give them enough praise and I see others have already explained everything there is to know... well, more or less. 😄
I can recommend another Japanese band if you like obscure music. Wagakki Band is a unique fusion band that blends traditional Japanese instruments and singing with modern rock/metal. I think they are even more popular than Babymetal in Japan, but not as well known abroad. The band consists of 8 incredibly talented musicians and they were formed back in 2013. Babymetal and Wagakki Band have become my two all-time favorite groups. They complement each other perfectly because they are similar in that they are unique, talented and offer a wide variety of music, but otherwise very different. "Homura + Akatsuki no Ito" is a common first suggestion as it introduces the members gradually and finishes off with a fairly strong traditional sound.
    ua-cam.com/video/ponTbDDMYjw/v-deo.html
The second song of the two is one of their most obscure and traditional sounding, but generally very liked by the fans as seen by the view count.

I think what you saw was that Rob Halford said he wanted to a song with Babymetal, this was a few years after he and Babymetal the 2016 a collab of the medley of Breaking the Law and Painkiller they did for an award show (APMA). So far no new song has been written (that we know of !). They've started to release singles for their album last year and it was fully released this year (The Other One). No features on that album. The previous album had a bunch of features. And they've released 1 more new song, Metali with Tom Morello, so a song with a feature, I think if Babymetal is gonna do or already worked on a song with Rob Halford then it's gonna be on the next album. But who knows !? 'Only the Fox God knows' 🙂

Key Kobayashi, Kobametal is the creator of Babymetal. He is a producer for the Amuse Talent Agency. He saw Sazuka Nakamoto, Su-metal, performing in Karen's girl and realized he had finally found the singer for his concept of a Metal music band fronted by a Jpop singer. Karen's Girls disbanded and Kobametal recruited Suzuka for Sakura Gakuin, a Jpop group for girls 10 yo to 15 yo. Within Sakura Gakuin he formed the Heavy Metal Club, AKA Babymetal selecting Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi as the "Dance and Scream" duo. What no-one expected was how rapidly they became popular.
Originally the group was to disband when Suzuka graduated at 15 yo. Instead they became a stand alone group within Amuse.
Yui and Moa stayed in Sakura Gakuin with Moa becoming President and Yui Chairman of Dance their final year. Both were performing and touring with Babymetal during that time.
Their international breakout was at the Sonisphere Festival in England, 2014.
Babymetal toured both Europe and the US this year to mainly sold-out concerts.

They created this genre and are currently at the ages you cited on a world tour. Definitely the hardest working performers in the business. No aspect of their shows-no matter how minor-goes without attention. BM are known for their spectacular live shows and I in my life have never seen another show that holds a candle to theirs. Actually Rammstein also pay an incredible amount of attention to their shows. But great and enjoyable as they are I don't leave Rammstein's music smiling the way that Babymetal leaves me.
