  • In this video, I return to Buttonwillow Raceway, for the last day of practice before participating in New Racer Orientation next month. Also, I do a much better job of timing myself, and work towards a long-time goal of breaking the 2-minute lap time barrier. I start out on the Daytona, and then jump over to the Tuono to round out the day. This video also features a new chin-mounted view and some on-track commentary on both bikes. Like, subscribe, leave a comment below, and all that other good stuff if you enjoy. Have a great day! :)

      @@hiimchad Hi Chad, I recently replaced the handle bar with clip-ons for my Tuono and it could just be me, I feel less tiring on my wrists and waist! How funny is that! My clip-ons are from IMA and they are raised by 10mm so it could be the reason. They have abaolutely changed the riding position, and the bikes feels much more stable when you accelerate hard, due to the more lean forward body position, and I was actually surprised how nimble this bike can be with clip-ons! Just wanted to share with you and hope that you might also want these mods too. Thanks again for the reply and nice videos! Ride safe (in Virtual reality too 😉).

      @@ennisyui thanks Ennis! Always keeping it safe.. 😅 Great to hear you're enjoying your clip-ons! Personally, I think I'll be leaving the stock bar on, as I still want to be more comfortable and upright on the road. I can definitely see how it would improve the bike's stability, though! You almost have too much leverage at times with the flat bar. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

    Chad, this is a high quality video, your presentation is getting better and better.
    Your riding is very good also, glad that you got your PB.
    I love both your bikes, it is usually the case that good average riders are faster on 600s or 675s.
    It takes a very good rider to get the best out of a litre plus bike.
    It is a shame when track days get interrupted by accidents, a shame for all concerned.
    I have never been on a track day without some sort of accident.

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      Thanks Doug! Glad you've been noticing improvements with my presentation. 🙂 I completely agree. Even a perfectly set up liter bike would intimidate me a bit, as I still don't have a ton of track time in the saddle with that kind of power. I've been riding Daytona 675s on track since 2015, so I'm very familiar with how they work and deliver their power. Crashes are always a bummer, but I've been on the other side of it, so maybe I was a bit harsh when making mention of it during the video. Nonetheless, it is a shame, and unfortunately more common at track days than not. Although, I believe there were no crashes all day when I went for Aprilia Racer Days back in March. That was a first for me!

    Hey Chad, 'MASSIVE CONGRAT'S' 🏍🤩 on your 'new lap times' (bet you feel on top of the world - and so you should mate, well deserved). Thanks for track footage, even though I'm over in Australia, it's like being at the track. I really enjoy the laps on both your bikes (although I'll always be bias for the Aprilia 😍). A couple of moments on the Tuono there Chad, don't you DARE put a mark on that bike 😂. I'd love to see what it could do with some 'slicks' on her. Good to see you playing it safe knowing the street tyres aren't the same as your Trumpy. Brett 👍

      Hey Brett, thank you! 😁 Definitely a milestone for me, although it's still nearly 17 seconds off the track's all-time motorcycle lap record 😅
      Glad I can take you along with me for the ride! I would be so gutted if I put down the Tuono, I really need to invest in some new tires. 🙈

    Have a Tuono and am looking to get a 675 Daytona also, glad I’m not the only one who finds the Tuono quite a lot to handle! It’s a beast though there is so much I can’t get out of it...

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      It's an incredible bike us mere mortals may never be able to fully exploit, but it sure is a lot of fun nonetheless! Great idea to look for a Daytona as well. They too are fantastic bikes, and much easier to manage. Are you looking for a particular model year?

    • @henrylewin7677
      @henrylewin7677 3 роки тому +1

      @@hiimchad yes, the post 2013 update, though if I find one pre 2013 with a full system I’ll take that just for the under tail exhaust! I run supercorsas on the Tuono btw and they are a formidable tyre in the right conditions - but I go through the rear far too quick for my liking and they are very unforgiving when cold or wet, but I would recommend them as the closest alternative to slicks... I can’t afford to run that bike the way I ride it regularly though so I will likely put a 2ct tyre on to get more miles out of it...

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому +1

      @@henrylewin7677 good plan! The 2013+ is a better handling bike with multiple improvements over the 2012, not to say that the older Daytonas aren’t excellent, and prettier to look at! 😉 The ride-by-wire on the 2013 does enable the possibility of adding an aftermarket autoblipper though, which is something I can’t do with my 2012’s cable-driven throttle 😞
      I’ve heard many good things about the Supercorsas in ideal conditions, which are normally what I ride in, but I’ve always been a Dunlop guy, so will likely end up with a set of Q4s if I decide to go for that type of tire. If you’re looking for a tire that offers a nice balance between mileage and performance, I’d take a look at the Q3+. Much better mileage than a Supercorsa, but you don’t give up as much edge grip as you do with Rosso IIIs or other dual-compound sport tires.

      Hey Michael! Thank you! Glad you’ve been enjoying my videos. 🙂 Fortunately, I’ve had great experiences with both Tuonos! I sold my RR a few months ago, but in the ~10 months/5k miles I had it, it was very dependable. Same goes for the Factory thus far. I’ve had it for about 6 months now and have racked up ~2500 miles, but so far, so good! Are you shopping for a Tuono?

    • @michaelmckenna2882

      Not as yet, but have always liked them, their servicing cost for a major service in Australia is around $2,000 I believe, so that may stop me from buying one in the future.

    Hi man, why you had better lap times on a slower bike?

    • @hiimchad
      @hiimchad  3 роки тому

      Hi there!
      There are two main reasons:
      1) The biggest one is the tires. My Daytona is on slicks, and my Tuono is on Pirelli Diablo Rosso III street tires. The Rosso IIIs are 2 or 3 steps down from the stickiest street tire Pirelli makes (Supercorsas), so the Tuono has nowhere near the level of grip that my Daytona has on its Dunlop NTec slicks.
      2) Suspension setup: My Daytona was set up by Dave Moss, a legendary suspension tuner over here on the West Coast of the US. The way the suspension behaves and works with the tires is very predictable for me, and enables me to get more from the tires as a result. I did have the Tuono set up by Suspension Matters, and while it is much better than it was before, it isn't quite as confidence-inspiring as the Daytona.
      So, the Daytona is a better overall package than the Tuono for riding on track, as they both stand today. I have a feeling lap times would be much closer if the Tuono was on stickier tires, but I definitely feel more comfortable on the Daytona. The Tuono's chassis feeling and mechanical grip are great, but the power can be a little intimidating when I'm starting to exit a corner. Just means I need more practice with it. 🙂 You can be pretty aggressive with the Daytona's throttle before it will start sliding the rear.
