This video features scenes from Adirondack Railroad's Oct 29th Utica-Tupper Lake NY run beginning in the Mohawk Valley and traveling through the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, all on rails of the late, great New York Central Railroad.
Featured are interviews with Adirondack volunteer Matt Giardino, Adirondack engineer Mike Waterman, Adirondack conductor Al Heywood and lifelong railfan Carl Trainor.

We took our Grandson to camp at Limekiln lake on 8/6/2023.
We aborted camping and stayed in Old Forge for 4 days, due to the bad weather.
We had tickets on the Adirondack RR, but due to the washouts, the runs were cancelled.
Next year we will try again !!
Still had a great time in the Beautiful Adirondacks (Daks)....
One of the best places on Earth !!

I have been on the Alberta Prairie Railway which operates excursion trains from Stettler AB to Big Valley AB, and in Big Valley, a local church group serve a buffet lunch at the local community hall....mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, drink gravy meatloaf, turkey or other including homemade pie for a small fee to passengers off the excursion train.......maybe a good idea for somebody to consider in Tupper Lake....a great idea to raise money for the local community. A win, win for everyone and the home cooked food was great....reminded me of a "Fall Supper" at the local church growing up. Not only that, the residents in Big Valley had a flea market set up for passengers to make purchases from the local residents.

It was good to see some of the old areas I used to roam. Though I miss Utica Station and Utica itself the colder temperatures just dont do it for me. Well done!

    Hello from Tonawanda NY!
I rode this line in part during the 1998 NRHS convention. It was really fun then. The equipment looked great and the atmosphere was terrific.

Thanks for showing us the line from the railroad side. As the train moved along I think you shot it most of those other locations as the station or outbuildings looked familiar. Quite a number of old summer cottages up that way and I'm sure some have become full-time homes over the years. Great to hear that Alco sound and see the smoke rolling back. If trailer train TTX had passenger service their Fleet would be Trackside with those little rail cars even painted yellow. I'm like you can't resist those open vestibules even if the weather is sub par. The Duluth MN museum has a very smooth riding Northern Pacific baggage car that I've ridden in upper MI. MN. WI. As for Bitold he had the " what took you so long" look. So if you noticed some Brandy and cigars are missing can you get a mysterious bill for a steak to go you'll know he was relaxing. Snowing at a faster clip than expected right during rush hour what roads are still clear due to warm pavement

I beleive the station has historical landmark status and also has state dmv offices. It is also the regional transportation centre. Interstate, local and regional busses use the station. It is a very beautiful bldg.

I was hoping some of the passengers on the train would see the video, thanks for commenting. I tried to get a dome car seat, lower level, but they were all sold out. However, the car I rode in was very nice, seat very comfortable, so I was very pleased regardless.

Much appreciated.

Wonderful video and you were so helpful and clear, adding even more enjoyment to this trip that we took as well this past Sunday. May I ask please, what was the area you were sitting in? Was it next to the dining car? And was that coach or first class? It looked really nice and roomy And comfortable. Thank you.

    • @railroadingrambler218
      @railroadingrambler218  8 місяців тому +2

Glad you enjoyed the video! I was sitting in the car right next to the baggage car, the second car from the rear of the train northbound. It was coach class. The car was used for spill-over for Utica coach passengers and for all coach passengers boarding in Thendara. In my opinion, it was far roomier than the other coach-class car.

@@railroadingrambler218thank you for letting us know, and for helping us understand it. We liked how your seats in coach looked, because we were hoping, if a seat across from us were empty, to have our feet up on that bench across from us, and it looked like that would be possible there in coach. It looks really comfortable. The upstairs on the dome car, where we were, was very nice, but the seats were very “vintage“ (aka small😊)
