You must of played the extra extra game then. I'll get you started the jockey of captain daddy is also the B&B owner in finport. The old man in the cinema in scones is the patient tam gets the time share off
still game is like a fine wine - it gets better with age ! The great thing about it is that its really just about life in general as seen through the eyes of Scottish working people and Glaswegians in particular. The humour is born and bred in Scotland. If you were to stop anyone in the street, they would all relate in full or in part ! It is a masterpiece, and the bonus is that it ran for a long time - so you have plenty to go at. You will laugh and you will cry !
I only really watch still game reactions on your channel ( I’m Scottish 😂 ) but by far my favourite reaction channel. All the other channels I’ve seen constantly pause and chat. You guys normally continue watching and I can see your reactions then yous chat at the end makes the experience easier 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I swear, yous have stumbled across one of the best comedies to come out of Scotland. It's so up there it's unreal. Because 99% of it is true life. (Watch Chewing the fat after it) it's got the same characters and jack and Victor are younger, it was made before still game, but still so good. Loving these reactions. ❤
"Hyperthermia sweepsteak", some classic morbid gallows humour Glasgow style there! 😂You guys' reactions to this is just wonderful. Somehow, I just knew you would get the Scottish humour, and love it. And also how super relatable a lot of what's in the show is, paricularly to us working class Scots. It's got real heart, in spite of how hilarious it is. I also love that you're really appreciating these very early epidodes. Though it does get even better around mid-way through the original 6 series' run, the first couple of series are really hidden treasure, and arguably the most earthy heart of Still Game resides in those series. It's such a joy seeing your reactions to this iconic series, and it actually does remind me of your hilarious reactions to Father Ted. lol 😊👍🏻
Have seen the live at Cottiers theatre? Raw AF. It's on YT. Amazing to see some of the original bits done on stage and then you remember them in the show.
@@its.frasbo Oh, I bought the DVD of the performance many moons ago! It is very raw, but it was obvious even back then, the bones of a great tv series was already there. The characters originated on Chewin' The Fat, and looking back, they were perfect for a comedy series on their own. The pub songs with Jack, Victor, Winston and Tam were absolute gold, it has to be said! 😊
My (Scottish) grandpa used to have a small wooden box with a coin slot at the top that sat next to the phone, it had the inscription, "Phone from here, whenever you will. But don't forget who pays the bill" printed on the side.
Brad and Lucy. A couple of things to remember about Still Game, non of the main cast are anywhere near pension age even now nearly 20 years on. There’s always a bonus bit after the end credits and there are two stories in each episode, the main one with Jack and Victor and Winston has his own story
The more things change eh, the more they stay the same. Most politicians (and certainly the ones in positions of power) are so out of touch with the ordinary hard working folk of the country. Tories, Labour... two sides of the same coin if you ask me.
5:40 - I think he says: "You're twistin' my melon" - a phrase I'd not heard since The Happy Mondays' "Step On" in the early 1990s! (Although they're not from Scotland, but Manchester). You got the idea though - messing with my head! (Or "heid" if you're Scots!) ua-cam.com/video/mFBQ0PH5rM4/v-deo.html There is a tradition of finding comedy in tragedy, pathos and the mundane in British comedy and Still Game is a great recent example of this. The ability to shift from moments of great silliness and comedy to moments of tenderness or tragedy is a mark of great writing in British sitcoms that goes back through Only Fools and Horses to Steptoe and Son, Tony Hancock and many more.
I absolutely love this show. Winston is great in every episode but to be fair so is everyone else. The casting director deserves a medal for picking this cast and the scripts are excellent.
Canadian is really similar to Scottish, we use a lot of the same words😁 This only gets much better, yous are going to love it. Yous should do a ‘Chewin’ the fat’ clips to see the other characters they do. Its class🙌🏼💙🏴
I'm soo glad you pair are watching Still Game,it's a staple like the auld mince n tatties, you enjoy it even though you've had it a hundred times😅Lucy looking gorgeous as always, get that mince n tatties done lol,I'm known to make the best mince and I've a ingredient that only I have n it's a wee bit of my love, enjoy the show us Scots love humour even a bit harsh but it's meant as fun,big hugs fae me in Scotland 😊😊
Our neighbour had a wee money box like that to help with bills when other neighbours needed to use her phone. Growing up in the 70s, only a few folk in the street had a phone.
I often wonder if Canadians find Scottish slang easier to understand as they have some similarities. Still Game is one of the most overlooked best comedies but most people just give up on Scottish accents/slang far too easily. If only they just tried to put the effort this channel has, they'de maybe have another top comedy in their collection. The language will start making sense the more you try listening to it. It really won't take long to get into the groove of an accent in your own language.
Make sure in the later series you watch the Christmas specials. Season 4 ep 7 cold Turkey Season5 ep 7 the party Season 6 ep 8 plum number Season 6 ep 9 hootenanny
This episode couldn't be truer nowadays. Our pensioners have just had their winter fuel allowance ripped away from them by our new government. If there was a way to cheat the system, i would have no problem with pensioners using it to their benefit
Navid is an absolute legend. He's probably my fave character in the show, though it's very close between him and Winston. 😊 "Muslims don't gamble...nae gambling, nae drinking...What a riot! We just like to sit aboot the hoose playing Kerplunk! 🙃😂
Although with neither pride nor shame I remember as a lad my mum filing old halfpennies down to the size of a shiiling so that they would fit into the gas and electric meters. Then just before the meter reader was due to empty them my mum would open the meter and swap the halfpennies for shillings. Times were tough but we were never hungry.
As you're enjoying the escapades of Jack and Victor, I have another Glaswegian comedy show for you that is as funny, if not funnier, it's called 'Burnistoun' I'm sure you guys will love it. ❤
It's haund, not horn. Various Scots dialects preserve older pronunciation that used to be common to both English and Scots. In Middle English hand was "haunde". Also a common feature of Scottish accents is barely pronouncing a "d" at the end of a word when it's preceded by a consonant, and strongly pronouncing it when it is preceded by a vowel. For example, heid (head) gets the "d"pronounced very strongly, while haund it's not voiced at all like so \hɔːn(d)\.
I'm unsure how to feel about that...I feel like it would either be amazing, or totally awful, and going from the long track record of movies based on tv shows, the latter outcome is the far more likely to transpire.
Yeah, theres 9 Seasons in total. Seasons 1-6 (2002-2008) including soecials. And then Seasons 7-9 (2016, 2018-2019) Seasons 7-9 was still made by and starred the same people, but it's not trying to be thr same, its trying to be a modern version of Still Game. The juries out on its quality compered to the OF seasons, but its far from bad.
Yeah, I'd agree that it's far from bad. I guess the reason the decline is obvious (at least IMO), is only because the bar set by the first 6 series was incredibly high. The main thing I noticed, is that a lot of the acting (and somr of the storylines) seemed overdone and forced, when it was appeared so natural in the earlier series. In saying that, there are individual episodes in the last 3 series that I really love, with "Grim Up North" actually being amongst my all time fave eps, and the final episode is a real tearjerker.
@@carrinanorth4224 Sheathing was that alright! Fantastic episode that one. Generally though, I find it strange that the main cast made for more convincing old people 15 years earlier, than in most if the last 3 series. I'd say that's my main criticism, is that it seems more forced in every department, but that doesn't mean it's not good. A couple of the episodes are really scraping the barrel, but overall it's very enjoyable, and certainly worth watching.
I'd also add that the best of the Series 7-9 episodes are better than the weaker episodes in the original 6 series. I'd take "Grim Up North" over "Fly Society" (my personal least fave episode from the first 6 series) and "Hard Nuts" any day of the week.
Brilliant show,i bought the dvd box set and a few weeks later no one watches dvd's no more :( they have toned their accents down for people to understand glasweigan ;P
While yes, maybe, the last three seasons weren't as good as the previous six, but they are still leaps and bounds above most others, also the Hogmany episodes are great as well.
It's actually 10.4℉. Fahrenheit's above freezing temperatures are between 32℉ and 212℉ (boiling point of water) but they still represent the same concepts, if the temperature in Celsius starts with a minus sign the Fahrenheit equivalent has to be below 32℉. You can calculate the Fahrenheit from the Celsius easily by multiplying the value by 1.8 and adding 32. E.g. 0℃ x 1.8 = 0 + 32 = 32℉, -12℃ x 1.8 = -21.6 + 32 = 10.4℉.
Problem with leccy here is that we use 230 volts which is very high and expenso , while you guys over there have 120 volts i believe which is nice and cheap.

Great examples of the Scottish use of "how" when we mean "why"

One of my favourite episodes.
I'm pretty sure that someone has mentioned it but, 'how?' is often used instead of 'why?' in jocklish. 😊
There's an episode where they actually fly over to Canada to visit Jack's Daughter
So exited to watch your reaction to this 👏👏😂❤️🔥
Ignore anyone who says the final 3 seasons aren’t as good. It’s brilliant to the end.
