    I reckon this is one of the best things he's ever written. They're going to have to be very careful to capture the simple beauty of this piece when they record it.

      The Breakfast Menu yeah his singing here is effortless and beautiful. The singing on the studio version is, according to me, really unconvincing, as if Thom were bored singing it. And he’s struggling reaching the same notes.

    • @t4exanadu
      @t4exanadu 8 років тому +4

      +Aqua Azumarill It's still growing on me! It's one of my favorite songs on the album, but I am still getting into it. I listened to this version (live at Latitude 2009) probably 60 times or more, so it's going to take many listen of the album version before I'm completely used to it. The choral stuff (or is that just Thom + effects? It's hard to tell!)
      in the latter half of the song is fantastic, though!
      I try to reserve my judgements about new Radiohead albums, because they often take me months to fully appreciate. I don't understand how reviewers can listen to it once or twice and come to some grand conclusion. Although the album isn't as lively as KoL (I really liked most of KoL, a lot of people didn't...), the overall sound and vibe is exactly what I like. Favorite songs so far: Ful Stop, Indentikit, Present Tense, The Numbers. What are your thoughts?

    This dance, this dance
    Is like a weapon, like a weapon
    Of self-defense, of self-defense
    Against the present (repeat)
    The present tense
    I don't get heavy (repeat)
    Keep it light and
    Keep it moving
    I am doing
    No harm
    And as my world
    Comes crashing down
    I am dancing
    Freaking out
    Deaf, dumb and blind
    In you I'm lost
    And I won't turn around or the penny'll drop
    I won't stop now
    I won't slack off
    Or all this love will be in vain
    Oooh...
    Stop from falling down a mine

    I love the album version - the first time I heard it I thought they'd ruined it with the Samba vibe. But after a couple of listens it really works. I think one of the main things that makes this version work is that you can see so much emotion on Thom's face... he is completely drowned in the song.

    • @simiamens
      @simiamens 8 років тому +16

      +chrisjhart221138 I had the same first reaction, but in the end it adds a kind of humor and intimacy, the samba vibe. I like both versions. This one's darkly beautiful, and the other one has this little smile cracked behind it.

      See, that is wrong! you have to embrace other styles of music! Im not saying all the genres or that you are a "limited person" for not like that thing that they add to the song at your very first listen(besides anyone that listen radiohead is a genius, so good for you hah). Radiohead is a band that it's always bringing something new and pretty to listen for the listener. We have to be more open to the things that music offers to us, because, if you think like I do, part of doing music is for the people, to keep moving (like thom says) and get over all the shitty things that can happen to you. I hope do not take my opinion as a critisize to your thougths, I respect them!. Like we said in my country: Abrazo! (hug :) )

    I like the "feeling" he uses as he sings the song, the lyrics are so true, and so deep... very good song. :)

    My favorite version… so raw here…Something gets lost (washed out) in the mix on the Moon shaped Pool… reminds me of blow out from Pablo Honey…just give Thom a guitar…magic

    I still prefer this version better than the AMSP one. It sounds more dramatic, more visceral.

    I always loved vocal exploding at 3:08, but it would not fit in the album's overall tone and I think that's why Thom lowered the melody. Still I miss that.

      Hell no, studio version is obviously better, you can't compare an acoustic version to the full band one.

    • @AtlanticSpamHammer
      @AtlanticSpamHammer 8 років тому +5

      I disagree... studio version is much fuller... and the sort of Samba influence really fits with the tune.

      I agree. I think this stripped down version is more captivating. I think the studio version doesn't do justice to how incredible the vocal melody is. It sort of hides it. I had probably heard the studio version 100 times before listening to this and this version did something for me that studio version simply did not.
