    Great job on this build! One tip, make your ferric at least 3:1 water:ferric and then take 2/3 of that and mix with 1/3 muriatic acid and your copper won’t bleed at all. Perhaps we need to get you into the next challenge?

      Do you notice it makes a large difference? I'll happily add some more water, but I don't have any muriatic acid. I could probably try and get hold of some. How long would you then leave it in for?
      And I'm always up for a challenge! ;)

      I’ve watched many videos with copper and tried them myself….. how in the world do you all keep it off the edge of the blade? I’ve even tried smaller pieces of copper and it always ends up on the cutting edge.

    It's an amazing looking blade. Really love the different layers and combinations of metal. Turned out really well, considering some of the concerns you mentioned.

    This is a really cool knife you made. I didn’t really know you could pattern weld copper and steel in the same billet. I’d like to get into this, and try my hand at making a knife like this. You did a great job, and you should be proud of your work.

    Douwe egberts is from Holland i tought you were from holland lol. The knife looks beatifull! It looks like it was a curved sword but the blade broke and turned it into a knife

    Awesome build. The video kept coming up on my feed but never took the time to look it up. Knife came out great. Especially for your first Cumai build. My first wasnt nearly as nice but it was a test with some lower quality materials to make sure I could make it stick before i spent way too much money making cooler stuff. Now im off to see the butterfly build!

    That's amazing. Nice work! I see the copper is pretty close to the edge, especially on one side. Do you think it will still hold an edge if you ever have to grind it up that far over the years of sharpening? Hopefully this question makes sense.

    Very nice work, I came to your channel because you was making a Damascus copper knife . After seeing your work would like to see more of it. My wife loves dragonflys have you ever made one using Damascus?

    Pretty pretty! I especially like the island (or eye) of steel in the copper on the blade.
    I've never seen anyone forge braze before - pretty cool technique.!

    That's a beautiful blade so much detail, I'd love to see a different blade 3 times bigger something like a Egyptian khopesh or Greek spartan kopis in the same sort of style

      I'm afraid not. I'm only a hobbyist and I am still learning myself. I wouldn't be able to charge a fair rate as I'm too inexperienced to make anything in a remotely time efficient way. 😅

      No, the reason you weld all of the seams is to prevent the oxygen getting between the layers. :)

    Damascus steel is like leopard print clothing....not for everyone. Definitely not for me but i gotta admit in this knife it really looks fantastic. You created a thing of beauty 👌

      @@PJTForging for me i like to sculpt faces and animal heads. wonder what that would look like? Or also candle holders, BBQ set, picture frame, Fire place set, maybe just a piece of wall art. a Russian rose or other flowers.....................

      @@jonandersen3347 fire place set probably is a bad combination for this... The copper would conduct the heat into your hand... Plus, low melting point.
      Sculpture sounds cool as hell though!

      Just normal electric tape, then parcel tape to transfer. Just bear in mind the smoke is toxic, so use in a well ventilated area.

    Phil, FWIW, I rather enjoyed the butterfly video. This video was equally great, and as beautiful as the knife is, I couldn’t help but wonder how it would fare in J. Neilson’s “smash every inconceivable thing for no good reason” test.

      I think it would probably hold up ok... Obviously it probably wouldn't be as strong as a solid steel blade, but I left the blade pretty chunky so I guess that's make up for it.
      I know I didn't test it much on camera, but after chopping that 2x4, the edge retention was still good enough to shave with, so who knows? 😅

      I'm afraid that would be really dependent on the bladesmith and their setup.
      I'm afraid I don't do commissions as I'm only a hobbiest, but honestly you'd have to ask around. Sorry I can't be more help.
