Brilliant, if the rest of Top Gear was like Chris Harris's segments I'd watch it. His video's are made for enthusiasts and made me smile. The rest of the programme is 'lets make some 'light entertainment' for people with the attention span of an eight year old.
I cannot take a has-been cricketer and former dating show host seriously when they talk about cars. Clarkson, May and Hammond might've clowned around a fair bit, but at least they knew what they were talking about, having been motor journalists.
Khoelle Basnight well the trio wouldnt but they never did, they have people who do it for them And they could Obviously Chris Harris has that benefit he is great host And driver
I'd love a Netflix series of Chris Harris and Henry Catchpole, long format episodes where they really get into a particular car or location. Could be like the Grand Tour but less buffoonery (which admittedly is fun in itself) and more evocative "take you there with them" feeling
@@Aegilops ideally Top Gear would stop trying to be Clarkson era daft and hire Catchpole, Harris and Mr Harry's Garage for a slightly more refined new new reboot
@@limpfishyes Agreed. The fact the BBC keep trying to flog a concept that was already getting stale (by Clarkson's own admission) explains why the original trio got sick of the BBC in the first place. However their priority is a show they can sell to as many countries as possible off the "Top Gear brand" with the format they THINK the audience wants, rather than making something genuinely fresh and compelling and waiting for it to take off. The real pity is that Harris, Catchpole and Harry Metcalfe all the have the knowledge, passion and charisma to transcend the niche audience and engage the casual viewer. It's so obvious it's painful that a car show should only be presented by motoring journalists, not actors, sportsmen and radio presenters. I'd almost rather Chris just go back to his own YT channel, free of a BBC producer to ruin it.
Chris Harris needs his own show. Please stop trying to pair him up with sidekicks and funny men. He is a proper petrolhead with boundless enthusiasm (for the right car) and knows how to convey to other petrolheads the feelings and experiences he has. Top bloke
Because of my dad Ronnie Peterson was my favourite racing driver at that time. I got my dad a model of the JPS Lotus for his 50th birthday and it had pride of place on his desk next to where his tea cup would be. He died a few years ago but that was a special bond.
Thank Harris for saying the correct thing about the Lotus 79 and ground effects. h He said it "Defined ground effects", most say it was the "first ground effects car", which it wasn't, not even the first F1 ground effects car.
Oh I love that car that time... 💕 I was always watching formula 1 race when I was young! wow But today I love silent vibration free driving without being stressed by the noise. 🤔
First non-woodblock, non-HotWheel toy car I had as a kid was a Corgi die-cast John Player Special. It, my Green Machine, and my windup Evel Knievel were my 3 favorite toys all-time.
This was a great, great piece. In the past top gear just skimmed over technical stuff. This is how you can improve over what they did. They'd never be able to present this.. Go into more detail, how does ground effect work... Most people watching are more than happy to sit through a physics lesson, even if some of it goes over some people's heads. We (viewers) can to learn, we want something that has at least the chance of broadening our knowledge, not just stuff that's easy to understand. There's no limit on how technical you can get. More stuff like this, and don't be afraid over losing a few viewers for half a minute if they didn't have the prerequisite knowledge. Worst that it can do is spur them on to find out more.
Started reading the comments, yup its pretty much exactly the same dialogue that runs in me head, good job mates! Glad we could all meet up here once again, till next time, cheers!
Can’t wait till Sunday evening. Can we just have CH presenting please. Kick out the 2 big school ground BULLIES and get back to what was good about TG. Oh and more 2 wheeled action too.
I think people have been screaming out for original unedited content from Chris; me included and this is it. I'd give my left testicle just to prod the OS front type with a ruler and Chris had it sideways 😬
Keep TG if the masses like it but please give CH his own BBC 4 series where he can be himself with his audience again using sentences like ..... used to measure the steady state cornering characteristics of a vehicle :)
Still a beautiful car. Not my favourite Lotus F1 car, but that's because there's so many excellent and significant cars to choose from. But the 25, 43, 49, 72 and 79 are massively important in the evolution of F1 car design. My personal favourites, the 49 (in original spec, no Gold leaf or wings), 72, 88 (the banned twin chassis car), the magnificent 95T and the stillborn 96T indycar.
A wet constant radius track, read skid pan, keep the revs up and don't wail on the clutch, add Chris Harris and don't tell me they didn't know what was coming, hopefully Neil has it all on film.
This, Top Gear - do this. No more copying the Clarkson, May and Hammond format. No more half-baked, crappy, pc-strangled slapstick. Just talk completely normally about awesome cars. That's all you've ever needed to do.
Just give the show to Chris Harris. No one gives a shit about the games they play. We wanna hear Chris talk about his love of cars, while driving those cars.
Good point - He also oddly seemed to be sitting slightly higher in the cockpit compared to the original video clips . What an absolutely amazing masterpiece of F1 engineering though.👍
THIS. This is the content we are all here for.
Amen!!! The like bar agrees with this comment!
It would be better with jeremy james and richard
Yes, but with the addition of footage of said experience 👌
Canj we just give Chris Harris his own show already?
Checkout his stuff before TopGear, loads and loads of it on UA-cam!
I wish he was still allowed to upload on his own channel.
YES!!!
Well said!
Top Gear is his own show, sort of.

Not the attention span of an eight year old, actual eight year olds...it’s pretty poor television now that’s for sure
@keith brown seconded
Only Chris Harris would try and drift an F1 car, love it 😅
anotherone10 The real top gear (Now Grand Tour)would also have done it
@@s.u.1939 And binned it!
@@s.u.1939 nah. That's just nostalgia speaking. No one there is talented enough to manage drifting an f1 car for two laps straight.
Khoelle Basnight well the trio wouldnt but they never did, they have people who do it for them And they could
Obviously Chris Harris has that benefit he is great host And driver
I’LL DO IT
U DARE CHALLENGE ME MORTAL
I love the John Player Special livery. That car was and still is gorgeous!
I agree completely... my fave livery of all time. I wish it weren’t advertising a tobacco company, but that’s who paid the bills in those days.
My grandma used to smoke Players, back when you could smoke indoors.
I feel like racing died a bit since those famous liveries are gone
This and the Buzzing Hornets are my two favourite liveries. Absolutely beautiful car.
Haas has the cleanest livery at the moment. At least until they loose the deal with Rich Energy...
"I wonder if it will drift" needs 2 laps sideways to make sure if it can drift :))
Very special car, and a driver who can appreciate it. Yeah, that'll do.
I love Chris's ending remark, "If I had to give up the job right now because of it, worth it". The best "worth it" moment ever.
don’t give up the job BUT CHRIS ON CAR AT NETFLIX IS NEEDED 🤔😉
@jon doe To say that a Chris Harris on cars Netflix special would be subpar is utter heresy.
I'd love a Netflix series of Chris Harris and Henry Catchpole, long format episodes where they really get into a particular car or location. Could be like the Grand Tour but less buffoonery (which admittedly is fun in itself) and more evocative "take you there with them" feeling

These videos need to be much longer (15 minutes) with extended driving.
This are just short videos to promote the show on TV, but i agree
I love Chris Harris; his passion and love for all things cars is there for all to see.
... shame the rest of the TV show has all gone to shite!
More of this genuine Harris please !!!!
Genuinely this series has been the best series of the past 10 years
"I wonder if it will drift?" Chris Harris' favourite question 😂😂 !
Chris Harris needs his own show. Please stop trying to pair him up with sidekicks and funny men. He is a proper petrolhead with boundless enthusiasm (for the right car) and knows how to convey to other petrolheads the feelings and experiences he has. Top bloke
Wait, so they didn't record Chris Harris drifting Mario Andretti's lotus 79? Man it would have been legendary to see.
Um they did
gangsterkami1 you need to open your eyes to see it
My favourite F1 car of all time. Saw Ronnie Peterson my hero drive it at the 1978 British GP before he was tragically killed in Italy.
Because of my dad Ronnie Peterson was my favourite racing driver at that time. I got my dad a model of the JPS Lotus for his 50th birthday and it had pride of place on his desk next to where his tea cup would be. He died a few years ago but that was a special bond.
Chris Harris literally is the biggest fan of cars. This makes me a fan of Chris Harris. Content like this is the reason I'm hooked.
That guy just needs his own show!
- Sincerely, every petrolhead
Got to love Chris's enthusiasm for cars. He should be No.1 on top gear. Bring back Rory too!
Well done Chris. Drifting it, you mad man!
Seeing this car reminds me of ayrton senna one of the best racer and fastest time ever. R.I.P
Car lover or not, how could you not love the Lotus 79?
Harris a treasure.
I will always stay with you Chris Harris
Hooning a priceless bit of legendary F1 machinery is the best life one could hope for.
Thank Harris for saying the correct thing about the Lotus 79 and ground effects.
h
He said it "Defined ground effects", most say it was the "first ground effects car", which it wasn't, not even the first F1 ground effects car.
Chris Harris is the only reason I watch Top Gear. I still go back and watch his old stuff
He really can't help himself...and that's why we love him...👍👍👍
Dont know what it is about Chris but i could watch him drive amd talk about cars all day long. Think its the genuine passion he has.
Only Chris Harris would think of drifting a multimillion-dollar vintage F1 car.
Arise, Sir Harris. Epic work, sire !!!!!
Oh I love that car that time... 💕
I was always watching formula 1 race when I was young! wow
But today I love silent vibration free driving without being stressed by the noise. 🤔
One of these Lotus 79s is on the vintage circuit - I've seen it at Watkins Glen - awesome
First non-woodblock, non-HotWheel toy car I had as a kid was a Corgi die-cast John Player Special. It, my Green Machine, and my windup Evel Knievel were my 3 favorite toys all-time.
Hey @topgear stop bullying Chris
I agree it’s crossing the line, absolutely ridiculous
Yeah right. Even though he’s a much better journalist than the other two, the poor guy just takes it
They are just jealous of his driving skills
This is one of the best car ever made
CARSPOTTER Sjuul 100%
jon doe 😂😂😂this joke was good
jon doe What an unintelligent thing to say
What a legend, only reason to watch top gear
Chris Harris is a legend!
This is the content we want! More please!
Chris Harris is a national treasure
Im convinced. Will watch
The Lotus 79 is the greatest F1 car of all time!

This is an amazing machine! loving these on the go videos! great video man!
Do it wrong Chris, don’t play our game ... be naughty, because if you can’t be naughty for us when we can’t then what is the point of going on?
Started reading the comments, yup its pretty much exactly the same dialogue that runs in me head, good job mates! Glad we could all meet up here once again, till next time, cheers!
HAHAHAHA Drifting a priceless, championship winning Formula 1 car! Harris, you utter legend!
From Drivers Republic drift lessons in an E39 M5 to this..... **fingers kiss**
Really?
Harris last comment sums him up. Brilliant.
What a legend!
Top Gear needs more content like this in the main show, wasnt a fan of Chris Harris but stuff like this is where he shines
people who've only discovered him because of top gear really need to have a look at his older stuff!
Can’t wait till Sunday evening. Can we just have CH presenting please. Kick out the 2 big school ground BULLIES and get back to what was good about TG. Oh and more 2 wheeled action too.
The Lotus type 88 was another ingenious Lotus
Brilliant!
I think people have been screaming out for original unedited content from Chris; me included and this is it. I'd give my left testicle just to prod the OS front type with a ruler and Chris had it sideways 😬
I love this video, thank u so much Top Gear!
This could be an hour long episode and it still wouldn’t be long enough!
Not sure if I should applaud or scowl. So I'll do both.
😡 👏👏👏
Just keeping the tires warm chief.
That would be awesome
LEGEND
Chris Harris *IS* Top Gear.
2:02 Serious skills
I've said it before but I'll say it again, Chris Harris could drift a house
"And frankly if I I gave up this job now, that would be enough!" Said like a TRUE car lover! Someone who's job is their passion! And vice versa.
I like how this was less of a car video and more of a confession video.
When Chris talk about cars it’s like poetry, you just can’t get enough..
Keep TG if the masses like it but please give CH his own BBC 4 series where he can be himself with his audience again using sentences like ..... used to measure the steady state cornering characteristics of a vehicle :)

Chris is already a legend! Who didn't like this video, I don't get the negative thumbs...
That is exactly what I would expect to happen.
A wet constant radius track, read skid pan, keep the revs up and don't wail on the clutch, add Chris Harris and don't tell me they didn't know what was coming, hopefully Neil has it all on film.
Chris needs to go back to his own show ! Not saying he's not good here but his own show was the bomb , more driving , more review and more natural!!
Chris Harris On Cars, on Netflix. That is what we want and need.
the Brabham BT46B was banned also, that was arguably 'great' as well, as for sucking the car to the track and generating enormous G's
That is an amazing story haha!! Good on you Chris!
Quality.
Don’t leave Chris!
Whre can I see Chris Harris drift in a Lotus 79?! I must! haha
I miss Chris Harris on Cars. Totally the perfect bloke for Top Gear ... but better on his own.
Charris makes new top gear
No car sounds ?
I’m with all the other Harris fans, give him own show TG.
The best job in the world!
LEGENDDDDD!!!!
top vid keep up the good work
I had a really good chuckle lol (-:
Best dang road car in iRacing....
Could easily listen to Chris Harris wax lyrical about special cars for hours and hours
This, Top Gear - do this. No more copying the Clarkson, May and Hammond format. No more half-baked, crappy, pc-strangled slapstick. Just talk completely normally about awesome cars. That's all you've ever needed to do.
100% agree! To try and copy the mannerisms and chemistry of that trio is just foolish.
And preferably actual motoring journalists or racing drivers, instead of actors and "personalities"
How do you not have footage of that???
BEST!
I like this guy just as much as jeremy
Just give the show to Chris Harris. No one gives a shit about the games they play. We wanna hear Chris talk about his love of cars, while driving those cars.
Only Chris Harris can precisely describe and deliver what a true petrolhead would feel driving any car he drove.
I used to have a scalextric model of this car along with the ferrari which broke. I threw them away when I moved home. I still don't know why :(
Give us the onboard !
Atta boy, Chris. You've got your priorities sorted.
I cant help but notice how his helmet is out of period compared to the car
Good point - He also oddly seemed to be sitting slightly higher in the cockpit compared to the original video clips . What an absolutely amazing masterpiece of F1 engineering though.👍
The cigs came in boxes and containers with the same livery!
