I think being honest and setting boundaries is the most important. Me and my husband told people up front we buy for kids in the family that are 18 and under. And we give to a charity or if someone in our family or friend circle was in needs. Otherwise, we don’t do gifts on Christmas outside of a card, with the exception for my husband chipping in for gift for his boss. It’s cut throat to some, but I feel like most people are actually happy about this because they also don’t feel obligated to spend more money or try to find a gift.

This year has been so much better because I saved my credit card cash back for the whole year just to buy presents. It was almost enough to cover everyone so I just needed a little extra which is totally better for me than spending it all at once like last year.

This is what we do!! Any credit card cash back sets the budget for the year so it motivates me to use them for rewards as i should!

Notice they always end up playing with the wrappers, boxes for tents/cars or paper towel lining for swords! Too many gifts is unnecessary. Plus they get gifts from extended family too!

We do gifts for mind, body and soul. Soul is like a thing they want that makes them happy, body is clothes and mind is usually books, but it can be something else like puzzles, games etc.

Question.... Would you ever be willing to do an emergency preparedness video? Just food and storage related, it doesnt have to be.... You know.... The whole shabang. I've been looking online, there aren't a lot of resources for families. I know you've mentioned in the past about doing one, just curious if you'd be willing to make content in an area that deserves some recognition and could be literally life changing for families ❤️

    • @meaganrohler3636

YES! I love this idea! People should prepare, so they don’t hoard by getting everything at once when an emergency scenario happens! We have almost no room in our apartment, but actively searching for a house and will save the video then!

Keeping track of your X-mas budget is super important. 3-5 presents per person is a great idea. I tend to prefer shopping for "needed" gifts over "wanted" gifts because they have more value for the person it's being gifted to, as opposed to buying junky gifts all the time that have a happiness life of about 3 weeks before it's never used again. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I think the biggest tip that was missed is buying second hand gifts if you’re gifter isn’t someone who would mind although most of the time you honestly can’t tell. I found almost all the kids items second hand and did under $50 Canadian this year and that includes gt racers each, a main gift, a secondary gift, and name brand sweaters plus their stockings each child.

I divide the gifts into categories
Something to spend - usually gift card or a cash amount
    Something to read
Something to experience with a parent- like an outing
    Something that is needed
Something they need but don't know
    Something to wear.
    Treat bag full of goodies.
This works well since they are 23 and 18
We've never gone in debt for Christmas each year. we estimate about $500 250 for each child. It's what we can afford, so we do the best we can
For extended family, we spend about 30 dollars a person. Which is equivalent to about another 240 dollars on average.
    Merry Christmas to you all.

My kids have known about the budget since before they could talk lol! When grocery shopping my 4 an 5 year old will ask if an item they want is in budget . Or if they are looking at toys and see the price is too high they will say “ oh that’s too expensive, that’s a special gift like for a birthday or Christmas “. Kids are smart they understand quickly ! Don’t worry they are still very spoiled lol but at least they understand how money works! We tell them mommy and daddy work really hard to make the money that buys everything and they find that really cool !

Idea for upcoming video... can you do an updated system on how you do allowance? Alllllllll things allowance related, from the twins's age all the way up to hutch. How you figure out ammounts, how often, do they have any expectations to earn it, responsibilities with it etc. I know you've done some blog posts in the past (idk about videos) but an updated one would be awesome!

(It's even like a little poem.)

Sth. to wear, sth. to eat,

Hey Jordan, after seeing a news broadcast where they were talking about people and interviewing people in the street on how they were going to purchase for Christmas this year due to inflation and the rise and housing costs and everything else included. A lot of people said they were going to do a by now pay later program. Other said they were going to put it on a credit card and figure it out later! Your method works really good for those who are very disciplined and doing so. I think Christmas is very overrated. In fact, I think all holidays are overrated because the pressure for parents to come through and do certain things for their children especially those on the very low income are overly stressed out and the stigma is a negative if you don’t do a certain amount for your children! We have scrapped all holidays including Thanksgiving today, if you’re not thankful each and every day when you wake up that you’ve been giving a new day then I don’t know what else to say for anybody lol, thanks should be thankful all your around not just one day! With that being given and said we don’t do Christmas anymore I give my children $25 a month year round they can choose to save it or spend it either way it’s there to keep and if they decide to save at the end of the year they’ll have $300 for themselves! There is a little side caveat to this as of January 2024 I will start saving for a bonus gift for each one of my children, but other than that the only thing we truly celebrate honestly is their birthdays, and they get to choose where they want to eat, and they each get cash for their birthday. This makes it easy I don’t have to buy any wrapping paper. I don’t have to spend out-of-pocket money for things in my house that we don’t find very necessary! This is just our way of doing things. 5:04 5:06

I do shop early but it’s mostly clothes on clearance with a few toys on clearance. Another thing I do is I check all the cash back sites to find the most back. Like today I was able to snag 20% back for Under Armour on one site then found 8% back on zwilling on a different site. It’s worth the extra couple minutes to check because both was almost 5% more than other sites

On occasion instead of a ‘gift’ for my mum I take her out for lunch, just the two of us. I live in another state so that is perfect for us to just get some one on one time. Is there something she would like to do with you that you both would enjoy?

I was also going to suggest taking her out to do something the two of you enjoy doing or simply ask her what she would like but pose it in a if you could have anything in the world, no limit is what is missing from your life instead of a i need a gift, what would you like.

The energy in her videos makes me so stressed. So fast. Anyone agree? Not trying to be rude because I do like her content. I change the speed to .75 and it helped me hear better

I think she is a little more animated in this one than is typical maybe? But I love her quirks so it didn't bug me but maybe this one in particular was bothersome more so than some of her other vids. Maybe it is holiday energy? She does hav ADHD so mayb it is a little more pronounced here? idk

Jordan that is pretty privileged for yor kids to not want or need anything @ Xmas. It's nice wen parents actually provide everything a kid needs & also wen a kid has a way to get some of wat they want. I'm thinking it is b/c of this that yor kids want a trip & nothing more. So it is not like they r Buddah kids that r somehow above regular kids from more working class fams.
I hope people don't take away from this that U R saying yor kids r a special breed & r above having "petty" wants like "other simpleton kids." For many children Christmas can be the one opp a yr they hav a chance to get something they want or even need so subbing that for a trip might b fun for them but they may hav to sacrifice other things such as clothes they want to wear or something fun like a bike.
The way u said it made it sound kinda like a kid wanting some of these things was overindulgent. Mayb so if u already hav 10 hoodies in yor closet but I'm thinking that families who hav to live more meagerly might be thinking wtheck? to yor comment

Actually, I just quickly perused your comments on this channel, and there are dozens of them, with a large amount of them of a negative and admonishing tone to others, because they share a different view than yours.
You are the one seeking attention, involving yourself in nearly 90 comments from others!
You make very inappropriate and condescending remarks, as well as call names .
If anyone is seeking attention , it's definitely NOT me!

I will never understand why people buy gifts for teachers. They are doing their jobs people!!! There is no need to gift them!!

They are underpaid and often spend their own money on the kids they are teaching…it’s just a nice gesture.

All the good teachers I knew would spend $200+ every year on resources, supplies, gifts for the kids, treats for the kids, decorations for the classroom… tell me what other occupation does that?

You don’t understand because you’re selfish. Do better. Be a better person. They’re spending more time with your children than you are, educating them.
