When i was a girl l i had a favorite story Of the meadowlark who lived where the rivers wind Her voice could match the angels' in its glory But she was blind, the lark was blind An old king came and took her to his palace Where the walls were burnished bronze and golden braid And he fed her fruit and nuts from an ivory chalice And he prayed: "Sing for me, my meadowlark, Sing for me of the silver morning, Set me free, my meadowlark, And i'll buy you a priceless jewel And cloth of brocade and crewel And i'll love you for life, If you will sing for me." Then one day as the lark sang by the water The god of the sun heard her in his flight And her singing moved him so He came and brought her the gift of sight He gave her sight And she opened her eyes to the shimmer and the splendor Of this beautiful, young god, so proud and strong And he called to the lark in a voice both rough and tender "Come along. Fly with me, my meadowlark, Fly with me on the silver morning, Past the sea where the dolphins bark We will dance on the coral beaches, Make a feast of the plums and peaches Just as far as your vision reaches Fly with me." But the meadowlark said no For the old king loved her so She couldn't bear to wound his pride So the sun god flew away And when the king came down that day He found his meadowlark had died Every time i heard that part i cried ... And now i stand here starry-eyed and stormy Oh, just when i thought my heart was finally numb A beautiful, young man appears before me, Singing "come, oh, won't you come?" And what can i do if finally for the first time The one i'm burning for returns the glow? If love has come at last it's picked the worst time Still i know I've got to go Fly away, meadowlark Fly away in the silver morning, If i stay, i'll grow to curse the dark So it's off where the days won't bind me I know i leave wounds behind me But i won't let tomorrow find me Back this way Before my past once again can blind me Fly away ... And we won't wait To say good-bye My beautiful young man And i.

She's much better than the other singer who does this on UA-cam. The other singer is freaking flat through most of the song but everyone gives her props. THIS lady is TONS better. Bravo. You're the one who should be featured rather than the other singer. (Not mentioning names.)
Won't mention names of the other singer but she's probably the video that comes up first in the search for this song. The other singer has a richer voice but sings flat. This woman stays on pitch, which is much more important. Plus a younger-sounding voice fits the lyrics better. This singer is way better than the featured singer.
LOL! There are no fewer than eight (8) other singers who . . . No, nine (9), no fewer than NINE (9) other singers who are included in the search results for this song. And, that’s just off the top of my head! (Ha! I forgot Andrew Rannel…. the hilarious guy from BOOK OF MORMON! So, he’s number TEN (10)!! If I really took the time to do the tabulation, I’m confident the results would extend well into the double digits! And, that’s just for the versions sung in English! Soooo, which “other singer”?
@@timothysmith7888 the one at the top, as I said. Nice that you skipped the obvious. This is a very difficult song, even if sung flat on longer-held notes. My preference is to not directly call someone else out. Sad that so few people posess this grace.
Not sure why everyone wants to know who I'm talking about. Why would you want to go search out a flat singer? Either to insult me or her. If you listen to some of the other singers, and you have a decent ear, you'll know.
I DONT THINK PEOPLE REALIZE THE TECHNIQUE SHES SHOWING IN THIS SO SONG WOW SHES AMAZING

I heard her preform this live a few days ago, and it brought me to tears.
Same here
Really? Where was she performing?
@@noelsmith3367It was for Singing For Hope! Newport News, but they have plans to tour.
OK beautiful but shoutout to the accompanist whose fingers must have been FALLING OFF flying through this piece!!!!! Wowza
HER VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AAAAAAAA
One could say... it could match the angels in its glory.
the mixed note to belt awwww my heart she's amazing
I really loved the way she sang this song, she's on par with Liz Callaway and Lea Salonga 😍

Vaggie is the Meadowlark and Charlie is the Goddess of the Sun.
Beautiful
I prefer the last note that Schwartz wrote over the choice she made
100% agree. She’s incredible and the accompanist is beyond impressive…but that final note, ugh.

Pity she forgot like 4 lines of lyrics after the meadowlark story when she met a man while she was teary-eyed..
i think it was part of the arrangement
the song was cut for this video!
if she had forgotten, we'd notice something wrong with the piano, but this is clearly the arrangement they went for
