Aww Robbie! You're so kind. These videos were a lot of work! It took more preparation than normal to make these videos! I'm tired. lol Thanks for watching.
Tonya Plans Your effort to make these videos is much appreciated. You’re one of the best, if not the best, ambassadors for Franklin Planner that I’ve come across.
Hi, Tonya. I have been enjoying this series quietly, but this one is my favorite! I watched it two times back-to-back and saved it in my playlist! You are doing a wonderful job! I'm sure anyone watching can feel a sway towards the Franklin Planner way! I'm in a fluctuating state at this time, but ONLY YOU could lead me back home. Looking forward to the next one!
Yolanda Henry 🌼🌸🌼🌸Hello Yolanda my friend! Thanks for the feedback! Doing this series was hard work as I had to prepare more than normal for each video! 👩🏽💻 I’ve been quietly reading your posts on Facebook too! 😉
I love Franklin Planners and was so grateful to find your channel. My mom died last year after her 100th birthday. I ran her life out of my Franklin Compact planner for nearly 20 years. Now that I'm responsible for only me I use the Pocket Spiral bound Compass planner. It took some getting used to. I still use the compact binder to store home information. For years my goals were limited to caring for my mom. Your videos have helped me plan new priorities and goals. Thanks! Now, take some time to rest!
Hi swimmer gal. You are absolutely a hero to care for your aging mom and I'm sorry to hear about your loss. As you know, a planner is an excellent way to keep up with doctor's appointments, prescriptions and other medical information. Swimmer gal, now it's time for you to do some self care! Be sure to take some time to preserve and care for yourself (sharpen the saw). Stay safe and take care my friend.
I only use one planner for my life. More than that would confuse me and I would never be on time for anything. Tonya I loved this video! It was full of information that is useful for me. I love your videos
Use 2 planners. 1.Franklin Planner and full Franklin system and 2. a TN for my on the go and personal needs, such as meal planning and grocery list, personal calendar (I sync the 2 daily), a journal and a habit tracker. My Classic Franklin is really for work and stuffed full. I have my personal budget in there and my zone cleaning but I am changing my zone to my TN for ease of access. I would get so overwhelmed and would not stop working if I only used one. I also use Google Keep for my on the go, idea and inbox and process that capture tool weekly/sometimes monthly. I really try to follow a mixture of Franklin and GTD. For work, heavily use OneNote to help process my inbox in Outlook, on top of my planner to plan my day.
Dear Tonya, I have watched all the video series and took notes about all the items and parts of the franklin planning system. Your videos have been so helpful. Although I don't own a franklin planner I do have a paper planner. I re arranged it to structure it to the system and I must say I am very happy with the result. I feel more confident that in the near future I will be able to accomplish my goals more easily and learn to manage "myself" instead of thinking that I can control time. Thank you so much for the time and effort you gave in making these videos. They are gems.
Hi Tonya - I really enjoyed this series. I just finished the online training course and watching your videos helped solidify what I learned from the course. Thanks so much! You do a really great job on all of your videos and it is much appreciated!
I used FC planners for many years but then stopped some time back. Watching several of your videos today has made me realize how useful they were back then and how even though I no longer work, I can and should still be using a planner. Once I decide if a weekly FC planner would work or the daily, like yours, that I always used, I’ll be placing an order - with your discount code. Great job on your videos!
Very clear explanations Tonya, Thank you. The parenthesis method is a game changer. I guess it would work if you plan weekly as well. I call my planner “My Life!”
Thank you again for this video. I am using the Franklin Planner Compact Size for work and a personal sized Planner Pad for my personal life. For me (how my brain works) it is good to keep them separate. When traveling, I do take them both with me, but they are small enough to do this with no issues. I use my personal PP as a sort of scrap book/journal as well, so another reason I keep these separate.
Hi Stefanie! I must admit, I never heard of a Planner Pad until now. I just googled it so now I'm on board. Sometimes having 2 seperate planners is what you need. Thanks for leaving a comment and take care.
I love this series! I'm going through a second time. Also watching the videos on the FP website. Just ordered a set of Seasons July-June planner pages. Waiting on your beautiful classic-size binder 😍❤
Hi Tonya! I just rewatched this video and, as usual, learned something new! I ordered the starter pack and am hoping it helps me to be more organized. I also ordered a few other items. Thank you so much for the discount promo code - it is very much appreciated! I hope you and your family are well - have a blessed day!
Thank you. These videos were incredibly helpful. I am resetting during this time and you were on target. For me , digital is great but instead of Etsy I am using Opus One for my iPad and iPhone. I am following you on all platforms now and look forward to the helpful tips.
Just found your channel and now I'm doing to online course. I have multiple planners. I like to separate personal from work otherwise I would need a huge planner.
Hi Tonya, Great video! I only used one planner didn't see the use of two or more but I do keep separate journals and I see no reason to incorporate journaling into a planner. I know military leaders will have a planner, Leader Book, or some sort of planning device with them at all times and a separate journal(s) for quotes, deep thought, and so forth. Keep it simple and to the basics and you'll do just fine. When I got my Franklin Quest planner in 1993 the management tabs were blue and the numbered tabs were red and they sold a continuation set of red tabs that took the red tabs out to 7-18. The tabs were also in a different order back then with the Address & Phone Tab in the second position, Values & Goals used to be the same tab, and everything else moved down one so the numbered tabs made more sense if you had the continuation set behind them. I can't remember why the order was changed except maybe some people were using the tabbed Address and Phone tabs and in the second position they hid all the other tabs. Franklin also sold a set of customizable tab labels you could use to repurpose the tabs if you weren't using them anymore like the Planner Guide tab some people would repurpose after they no longer needed that section because they knew how to operate the manual. Personally I would've suggested to Hyrum to put the Planner Guide pages up front behind the Owner's ID page without a tab to use that tab for something else, and keep the phone pages where they originally were. If I started an Information Record after previous one-time occurrences and it was turning into a project I would go ahead and bite the bullet and copy the earlier notes onto the the Information Record and annotate in the original location(s) it's being turned into an IR and not to expect anymore entries in future Daily Notes. That way I wouldn't be going back and forth between storage binders for information. I know it sounds counter to the Franklin Method but Hyrum always emphasized to use the planner the best way that works for you because his suggestions were not hard set-in-stone inflexible methods, just guides to help us along. After a while you get to know when to expect something is going to be a project so you can start out on an Information Record that way you don't have to do any recopying later. I love the Parenthetical Method it's so easy, intuitive, and ingenious that I was surprised no one else was using it because it absolutely works. To me that's as analog as you can get to a analog computer database, just like the old index cards from before computers you could go to your DMV and they would pull out a set of index cards and find your information or the card catalog system in the libraries. It made perfect sense for this to be the heart and soul of a day planner. In Hyrum's audiotape seminar he gave the example of one of his first clients called him up one day to ask him about a time management seminar and Hyrum noted the day, time, duration of call, and subject matter in his planner. The future client made an appointment about six months later to visit Hyrum to see first hand before committing. Six months later Hyrum is going through his daily planning the night before the appointment and notices this appointment from six months ago and using the 10-second method he retrieves the information and refreshes his memory and is ready for the meeting the next day. The future client shows up for the appointment and Hyrum introduces himself and starts the meeting with a brief summary of the phone call six months ago at a certain time for a certain duration about a certain subject before the gentleman could tell him what he was there for. The gentleman could only say damn, damn, damn every time Hyrum mentioned something from so far back without blinking an eye or missing a beat, the gentleman was simply astounded and asked him how he did that. Hyrum explained the Franklin Method to him and that's when the gentleman became a client and ordered the seminar for everyone in his company. Hyrum asked the client what he's been using before the Franklin Method and he shows him his old beat-up yellow legal pad. That Tonya is absolutely brilliant because I haven't thought of this story in about 30 years but I can still remember it like I just read about it yesterday. The way Hyrum presented it and the Franklin Method makes any other time management technique completely inferior in my opinion.
I see your point about the Information Record. It would be nice to have all information for a particular subject to be in one section or tab without flipping back and forth to the page referenced on the Daily Notes pages. I guess Hyrum/FP came up with the parenthesis method so people would not have to rewrite the same information over again. I heard that story before about the client meeting...I think it was on Facebook? Anyway, the story shows the planner is a great way to retrieve information and appear on top of things. I love hearing your point of view!
Hi Tonya. Great videos as always. I find it frustrating that Franklin Covey doesn't have as many different forms for compact size as it does for the classic size. In this case, I am talking about the Information Records Sheets. FC's online catalogue has them for classic size but I don't see anything for compact size! Should I just home-make my own....?
Joe M. 🙂🙂🙂 Hello Joe my friend. I recommend calling the Franklin Planner customer service phone number as some products they have for sale are not on the website. You are correct that some forms are not available in compact size. It could be that sales were low for that form and therefore not cost effective to sale it. I don’t speak for the company but I suspect they make some forms available only in the classic size for business longevity purposes. The classic size with 7 holes is their flagship product probably licensed to them only as you cannot buy a 7 ring classic-sized binder from anyone but Franklin Planner. The compact size is not, it is universal. That means that when they make a form available in compact size, a customer does not have to purchase a binder from them, they can purchase a compact/personal binder from anywhere. So offering their forms in the classic size benefits the company as the customer is likely to purchase a binder. Also, for some forms, it does not make since to make in the compact size because the writing space and font ends up being too small to be usable. I had this problem with the compact Financial Supplement inserts. The writing space was too small to be useable. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for watching. 🙂
What does the "IR" stand for that you referenced on the Index page? I must have missed it. I really enjoy your videos and learn new things even now, after using the FC system for 20 yrs. Thanks!
