Your point on keeping track of things and that things could be used in court. Absolutely true! I used notes that I had written during a custody battle years ago! I had documented every time someone “said” they called to talk to a grandchild. How long the calls were and if there was any confrontations. Boy did those notes come in handy when I showed them in court! The judge was impressed. My thought was I was just covering my butt! I used it another time in court when someone didn’t document correctly when I paid a court fine. I had paid cash so there wasn’t a paper trail like with a check. I went (it was years later) through the time frame that it happened and search on my pages because I documented money spent everyday. It matched the day that I had a meeting that day at the court house. They went back through their records and found that a clerk at made a mistake! Saved me from having to repay the fine and another fine for failure to pay!
I do this, too! anything that involves someone else, goes in a note! I have a community planner for neighborhood things, town things, walking around the block with the dog things....whatever I encounter that could be important later.
This is a great book that deserves more attention, especially in light of so many systems in vogue these days that are really simply adaptations of the Franklin Quest methods from decades ago.
Tonya, I’m rereading this gem of a book after probably 25 years or so. With pen & paper (which I’m using as my bookmark) at hand, I’m jotting down each idea number that I think will be helpful to me at this point in my life. I knew I’d never remember them once I was ready to put them into practice so figured I’d record them as I went along. Thought I’d mention this in the event it might help someone else who’s memory has leaks in it. 😁
Tonya, I found this video very helpful. I do have the book referenced, but found your video brought it to a real life situation. Appreciated the folders, both tangible and the creation of e-mail folders. I would appreciate more videos on this book and similar books. FYI I subscribed to your channel today 😊
Oh yay James! 🤗 Thank you so much for subscribing! I will do more videos like this. Please give me a little time to make the next planner tip video as I have other videos in the queue.
Love that book. I have one. I like educational videos about nutrition..natural beauty and home remedies. I use the blank pages to take notes..documented..then at the end of the month, file them under a tab at the back of my planner. They stay there til I'm able to try them. If they work and/or I like them..I take notes and add it to a permanent notebook.
Thank you so much for these practical tips on how to use my planner more efficiently. The planner community is full of videos on new planner products and decorations, but I like videos on how to actually get better at planning itself!
I am a Franklin aficionado! I have used the planner system 30 years especially early in my career and when my children were young to keep track of everything & everybody. Since I've retired, I don't need the planner as much. I REALLY enjoy your videos as I reflect back on my life. I still own the Hyrum book. Blessings!
I ordered a used copy of this book in January. I have used the Franklin Planner for 20 years. This book gave me many new ideas. I would highly recommend it. I love your videos Tonya!
@@TonyaPlans I work two jobs so I understand the time crunch and I'm happy to support your channel! That you can make these videos while working a full time job and balancing your personal life is a living testament to the efficacy of the planner life. 💗
Tonya, yes, please. Give us more tips in another video. I appreciate how you demonstrate how to take the tip from the book and how you would implement it in your planner. Also how you translate it to current technology. I often write down the person who sent the email and what day they sent it for meetings or appointments, etc. Putting into a number folder would make the process of finding that email much much easier!!!
Jet Pens has a great selection of pens you can custom choose the different colors and pen tip sizes. And tip about deconstructing a book reminds me of Rick Steves, he’s a travel guy with shows on PBS, and he suggests taking just the pages from travel guide books on your trip. As in going to Barcelona, only take the pages for Barcelona, not all of Spain.
I would love to see some more tips from that book I think I have that book somewhere but I forget to incorporate all of the tips this is a good reminder
I love that you’re so practical about planning. I’m taking planning as a tool to achieve what I want to, not a creative outlet that isn’t sustainable for people that aren’t just focused on planning. Thank you for all the helpful tips.
Great job on the video. You are very well spoken and informative. I've been later planning for week over 30 years and I learned something new. Thank you!
I’m at 6:26, so far, so good - I’ve even given it 👍🏼 already. 😁 Tip 2 seems like a riff on a tickler filing system. 🤔 It’s not sorted by time, but I bet that’s where the idea originated. If you could explain the asterisk concept a bit more, that would be great - after you mark an item w/an asterisk, when do you return to it - still today? 🤔 Thank you! Looking forward to finishing + maybe purchasing the book.
Ok - now I’ve finished! 🎉 I color-code to-do lists *outside* my planner (red is urgent, green is procurement or financial, purple is recreation, etc.), but I was taught to write my daily to-dos & appts *in pencil* in my planner, b/c things change. 🤔 I don’t know if I could tear apart a book b/c then I wouldn’t have the intact book to refer back to later if I wanted, but as you say, placing reading material in your planner, keeps it “in your face” so you remember to read it. 👍🏼
I've been doing email folders for a while they are an essential especially if you are unemployed. Also love the tip on reading material in between the daily pages , but for me it will be documents that I have deadlines for of any kind.

Good idea about putting notes that can possibly used in a court case. Also, as I have learned by doing minutes for Commission meetings, be sure you do not put anything in there that would work against you in a court case.
I work in government, and we talk about this a lot. Anything we save or write for work could be subject to public information requests, so I have to be always professional and succinct in my notes and emails. But it also means I have a really good trail of documented emails and conversations if there is ever any confusion on something we communicated to the public.
I’ve learned to rip out articles from magazines to read later and put in planner under a “reading tab” and then recycle the rest of the magazine. I had piles of magazines before doing this & couldn’t remember what I was saving it for..
I’ll have to go back and reread that part about using your planner as a document source. I’ve certainly read of more than one example where someone’s notebook/planner was presented during a dispute. I found where my spouse used the notes page of the DO2P insert to summarize his mother’s medical visits when he was coordinating her care. That struck me as really smart.
Hi Robbie. I agree, that is smart. When my husband was taking dialysis and was in and out of the hospital, I used the Daily Notes pages to record medical notes. It helped me stay sane.
Thanks so much Tonya :) Love the idea of the folders again - I keep dragging emails to google tasks and never follow up or organize them - I think keeping them organized on the email folders would be helpful and then following up with a task written in the planner would keep me on track better - the book looks super helpful - just ordered a copy :) Thanks for all of the work you do putting these together! I really look forward to watching them

You inspire me to be a better planner & organizer. Thanks! PS I watch as many of your videos as possible; I find myself reading your Instagram captions inside my head in your voice. 😄
The Pilot Hi Tec C Coleto is a wonderful multi-pen. You buy the barrel and the ink refills separately. There is even a mechanical pencil mechanism and an eraser mechanism. So you can have pens, a pencil, and an eraser all in one pen barrel.
Do you have a video you can point to with a pen test on the FC paper? I’m wondering if the American version (I have the Japanese one) holds up to foundation pen ink or if a specific type of pen is needed?
I color by me, my husband, my work team, and then other work groups. Six colors. I'm looking at removing two colors this year because other work groups can really go under one color, instead of multiples. Four colors is better than six colors.
I just started to try & use the Franklin Planner. With that being said I'm LEARNING how to use the Franklin Planner. Right now I think I have wasted my money on this thing, I'm completely LOST. Oh well maybe the Learning Curve takes a little Time. LOL LOL
I once used my planner notes in a court case involving my company’s CEO and former President to provide evidence of who was in a particular meeting and what was said. I testified on the stand about it. Took about 8 hours. That’s 7 hrs and 55 min of sitting around and 5 minutes to testify. 😂
Hi Brandon. How interesting. Life happens so fast that it’s nice to have a way to look back on what happened in your planner. Sorry you waited so long to testify. 🙂🙂🙂
Curious. Is Franklin Covey planner system a training in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints? Hyrum Smith was the second in command in the Church.
I really would have edited out the part about using your planner notes in the court system, especially if you don't know the facts on it for sure. don't give out advice you don't know to be facts especially if its about courts and ''drama''....
Hi Kathryn. As stated in the video, that was a tip from the book and I thought it was interesting so I decided to share it. I do not regret it. Thanks for watching.
My planner notes have been used in court plus even a personal diary. The diary was used for an auto accident to establish weather for that day as a friend’s fence was blown down and horse got out of pasture & caused a car wreck. I had horses too and had recorded the storm and how windy it was because I had to recheck our gates to make sure my horses were in. The friend was not ruled to be negligent in the case. It was pretty cool to be a part of that. It was only used because I wrote everything going on daily for years and that made it reliable. My personal notes in planner were very helpful in establishing a parenting plan for my kids.

@@TonyaPlans wow! That’s great to know. 😊❤️
great video !!
Hi there! Thank you Rebecca! I'm about to check out your channel!
Love this❤️
Thank you!
Do you have a video you can point to with a pen test on the FC paper? I’m wondering if the American version (I have the Japanese one) holds up to foundation pen ink or if a specific type of pen is needed?
Increíble!!!
hahahahahahah....I have so many outlook folders! I do them all, though, the paper plannering (?) plannery (?) keeps me on track!
Hey. Folders are helpful!
I’d like for you to do more planner tips pls
@@leannprince138 Hello okay!
I color by me, my husband, my work team, and then other work groups. Six colors. I'm looking at removing two colors this year because other work groups can really go under one color, instead of multiples. Four colors is better than six colors.
Yes, I agree. 4 colors is better than 6!
I just started to try & use the Franklin Planner. With that being said I'm LEARNING how to use the Franklin Planner. Right now I think I have wasted my money on this thing, I'm completely LOST. Oh well maybe the Learning Curve takes a little Time. LOL LOL
I just got a 1st edition version of the book 2nd hand of the book featured in the video.
🙂
I once used my planner notes in a court case involving my company’s CEO and former President to provide evidence of who was in a particular meeting and what was said. I testified on the stand about it. Took about 8 hours. That’s 7 hrs and 55 min of sitting around and 5 minutes to testify. 😂
Hi Brandon. How interesting. Life happens so fast that it’s nice to have a way to look back on what happened in your planner. Sorry you waited so long to testify. 🙂🙂🙂
How did you make your bible sheets?
Hi Audrey. I google my favorite bible verses, highlight, copy and paste to Word or iMac Pages. Then I print. Thanks for watching. 🙂
0:08 hello.where did you purchase your book and what is the price?
@@VanessaDixxon-e9v Hi. Ebay. I don’t remember the price from 3 years ago.
Curious. Is Franklin Covey planner system a training in the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints? Hyrum Smith was the second in command in the Church.
Hey! I have no idea!
@@TonyaPlans thanks for the reply. I appreciate the system, was wondering about it’s origins.
Correction: This Hyrum Smith that the Grandson (or something like that.) of that original Hyrum.
Thanks!
Hey! Thank you so much!
