  • Here's a little time-lapse on the install of my Hella horns. It didn't take as long as it looks, it just got dark fast because of the time of year. Notice how rusty my crash beam is? Yeah, that's on my list of things to fix. Maybe in the spring time. Haha. Thanks for watching! Let's see if we can't hit 5K subs by the end of the year!!!
    All my powdercoating equipment was bought from Eastwood,

    The Neon Yellow & Glow Bee Clear powders I used on these horns are from Prismatic Powders.

    Awesome video. The stock horns look like hella horns already, are they just not loud enough? Or did you just want a different tone

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 років тому +1

      Thanks! Actually the horns I removed were old Hellas that didn't work anymore. I mentioned it in the video before this, but forgot to mention it in this on as well. I will make a video comparing the Hellas to the stock horns when I get a chance.

    I have the horns and the grimspeed bracket but for whatever reason I can't find where the last female connecter (connected on the same wire with the ground) goes. It's really frustrating I'm not sure if I'm missing a harness or what

    So I just stumbled upon your channel and your car looks great! If your haircut didn't give it away though, that shirt does. So what branch are you in? Air Force? Hellas have been on my long list of parts for a while but I think when I get back from the sandbox I'll be getting a new motor and clutch :)

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 років тому

      Welcome to the channel bro!! I know how it is being away from your car for so long. All I did when I was deployed was watch UA-cam in my free time. Lol. & yeah, waffles tops are comfy as hell. I wear mine way too much, but it beats any hoody I've ever owned. Haha. I'm Air Guard. I was active AF for 4.5 yrs & then I went guard & have been using my Post 9/11 GIB to go to school full time for the past 2 years.

      Waffle tops are the best lol. That's what's up. I'm AD now going on 8 years. And dude you don't even know, I watch so much damn youtube. Part install videos, tear downs, etc. At least I'll know what I'll be walking into. My first base was Korea so my STi sat for a year. Then it sat for another 6 months before I decided to bring it to Germany, now another 6 months haha. Keep up the good work though! I love watching the install videos. I'm probably going to go with the same quik latches when I get back. You're calipers are badass too!

      @hawkeyestiguy  7 років тому +1

      Thanks man! I LOVE my quick-latches. Well worth the money! Contact them on Facebook(& follow them) & they'll probably hook you up with a small discount.

    Is it just plug in to the old horn wires or do you have to do new wiring?

    Quick question, what do those do? Keep up the great work!

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 років тому +2

      They are horns that are much louder than the stock ones. I prefer them because they are loud & get peoples attention quick. I had a few times where people drifted into my lane & regular horns weren't loud enough cause they were blasting their music. Lol. I also like the look they give. They add eye-candy. Haha.

    just curious about different wiring and relay from hella sorry guy nice looking car

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  5 років тому

      I used the GrimmSpeed plug & play wiring harness. I did not use the relay included with the Hellas. I think there are write ups on NASIOC on how to wire that in.

    How much did the whole powercoating setup cost you?

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 років тому +1

      Mine was roughly about $350 or so, not including the air compressor or any powder.
      $110- Dual voltage powder coat gun(highly recomended)
      $90- Oven
      $30- Infrared thermometer
      $20- Wardrobe box & filters for spray booth(bought at Home Depot)
      $40- Dekote stripper & PRE cleaner
      Powders range from about $10/lb to $20-$30/lb. It just depends on the company you buy from, the color & if it has any special qualities(i.e. textured, glow in the dark, etc.).
      I also bought an accessories kit that included silicone plugs, additional bottles for powder, & a few other things. I ordered a spool of stainless steel tie wire to hang parts, & high temp masking tape,
      You don't need a very powerful compressor, the gun only needs about 5-10psi max.
      All my equipment was bought from Eastwood, & most of my powders are from Prismatic Powders.

    What did u spray on the radiator ?

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 років тому +1

      Black spray paint. There were some areas that were worn & were silver, so I touched that up at the same time.

      how much was the wiring harness and where did you get it from. I've not heard of grimspeed in the uk

  • @TRD604

    Whats is the length of the bracket?

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 років тому

      The one I made is about 15" with the horns mounted about 1" in from the ends. What I did was got a yard stick (measuring tape works too) & held it up in front of my bumper. I then decided where I wanted the horns mounted & noted where the centers of the horns fell on the yard stick. I added 1" to each end of that measurement & cut my bracket. Perrin & Grimmspeed charge $40 for their brackets, mine cost like $5.

    • @TRD604
      @TRD604 7 років тому

      HawkeyeSTiGuy Great, thanks. I was looking at the Perrin one but it was too long. I liked how your horns were mounted. Great work.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 років тому

      Thanks! The cool thing about making your own is you can make it pretty short if you need too. I also had to rotate the bracket for the stock horn & bend down a small tab on the center support, but both are fairly easy to do.

    should powder coat your front bumper beam. lol

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 років тому

      Lol. If I had an oven big enough I'd do it. Lol. Actually It wouldn't be worth it on mine since it's already heavily rusted. I plan on replacing in in the spring time.

      HawkeyeSTiGuy Eventually I'd like to try powdercoating myself. But as of now I outsource to a local shop. They did my factory silver wheels slight matte black. Stand out from the rest. Just like you, I suppose. Nice. Something about being different.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 років тому +1

      Nice. The start up cost is about $500-$1,000 depending on what you buy & if you already have an air compressor & oven you can use, but if you are going to powdercoat more than a few parts, I think it's worth it. For me, I have a lot of things I'd like to coat & am saving hundreds of dollars by doing it myself. If I only had a couple parts, I probably would've just gone to a shop. It a lot of fun & is a good option though.

    • @wiwiz1131
      @wiwiz1131 8 років тому +1

      HawkeyeSTiGuy. Nice, at first the price honestly gives me a slight pause but when you really think about it. It more than pays for itself after a couple of sessions. Changing up my wheelcolor and powdercoating some things on her. It does make sense. Thanks for doing these and showing us how to do our own things. 👍

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 років тому +1

      Yeah. When I was deciding whether I should invest in my own setup, I looked at the prices I would be paying for a local shop to do the work. The main project I had in mind was my brake calipers, & eventually my wheels. Even the calipers were going to cost me $60 per corner, times 4 is $240, & at $80/wheel, that's another $320 for my wheels, so even with those 2 projects my setup would basically pay for itself. Since I got it, there are countless smaller projects that I have been able to use it for too.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  5 років тому

      scott horton If you want blue/black, you are free to do that to your car. I wanted my Hellas to match my Brembos & stand out a little, instead of being hidden & lost behind the grille. My last set were blue, so I wanted to change it up.

      Kim Scheie They just bolt in place. It’s not too technical. If someone knows how to use a wrench, then they really don’t even need to watch this video. I also didn’t have as much time to film this so I didn’t explain as much as I do in other vids, but there really wasn’t much to show.
