Lived in Sohar in the north of the country for a few years. The amount and variety of fish that came through the local fish market was amazing - this included large tuna. These were not mass fished - they wer locals catching for the locals. A favourite was spanish mackerel, call kingfish in Oman. Also "hammour" was a favourite - coral trout to Aussies.

Just a heads up, that first tuna you lads caught looks like it was actually a Long Tail Tuna, also known as a Northern Blue Fin. I got a video of a 15kg Long Tail I caught in UAE, Fujairah and they are found all the way from Musandam, Oman all around the Gulf of Oman to Muscat, Oman :). #UltimateFishing

Nice FLUTEFISH that’s what we call them in OZ.
mate we get them on poppers all the time. The trick is following the thermocline and trying to find a pod around that area as thats where they seem to bite best.
Also you have to be on the look out for false killer whales as that would definitely mean there are no tuna around. You mentioned in the video they are fished heavily by the locals, which is somewhat true but most of the pressure the yellowfin face are from persian fleets of longliners and they deservingly have a bad rep for overfishing others fish around the entire region. If you are livebaiting in my experience if I use lighter leader I get more bites. Cheers

I think that first tuna fish was a Blackfin tuna
nah was a little long tail tuna, you get catch alot of them in oman
1st fish was not a bluefin tuna its a longtail tuna pretty common in oman and uae

you very good in NZ but only NZ 3 days no fish lol come on. in the tropics down rig your live bait 50m sometimes more thats how i have gotten most of my tuna in Oman iv lived in Oman for 2 years
