- The biggest GT ever caught from the shore popper fishing in Southern Oman! Caught by JC during the 2017 annual No Boundaries Oman 'Reef Raiders' trip. It will be beaten, someday when someone get's lucky! *Language warning - in the heat of battle there are a few expletives sorry.
Gear Used:
Lure - Amegari Kaxu 240 stickbait
Hooks - Gamakatsu GT Recorder 6/0
Rod - ASWB Indian Pacific GT Tamer 6/8
Line - longtom attracting POS snappy stuff!
Reel - Shimano Stella SWB 14000 with SOM 16000 No Limits spool

I’ve legitimately watched this on both your channel and MTF a dozen times, no exaggeration. Question John, how much PE-10 did your 16000 spool hold, and how much line was out when that brute crushed that Kaxu 240? What do you think it got your capacity down to?? So bloody sick mate!!
Hey man glad you love it, this is the first time that pretty much the whole fight has been put out there with obviously some cheeky banter to the MT guys ;) I was down a bit of line to begin with as had been having trouble with the long toms snipping our line... I had lost 3 quality fish to line failure because of it so I stripped a bit off and was really lacking confidence in it (which is why I purposely didn't strike as I was certain it might pop). I rec that spool had about 180m tops of line on it, and I probably had 40m out on hook up, I literally got down to 5 - 10 meters of line on the reel, it was tense and I was sure I was smoked, but I got lucky

And yeah man I watched Saltwater Prodigy’s video where he mentioned just how bad the long toms are taking chunks out of your line! Haha I don’t think I could imagine a more annoying scenario than that, like it’s not even funny when you think about what it took (preparations/travel/money) to get you to that moment just to pop off the fish of a lifetime because a longtom turned your PE-10 into PE-4!! What a memory and how good getting that footage because that fight could never expressed through words to those who weren’t there
Those long toms are truly evil! Never seen them as bad as over there and the line I was using had multi colours and they seemed to be super attracted to it - worst fish!
absolutely mental man! is that the pe8 gt tamer? it says the recommended drag is 11kg... im guessing that was quite a bit more than 11kg

Probably 120 is the sweet spot man. I just got back from a GBR trip where I was throwing lures as light as 75 on it.

No, we didn't have the ability to at the time. Plenty of experience from the guys there with the team and we were all blown away with the size for off the rocks. Getting the fish back healthy was first priority also. Thanks for watching!
