The movie Episode 1 came out in May of 1999. It was the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy that came out in 1997. So it would've been impossible for the Racer game to exist before 99 since the movie didn't exist yet.
So cool to see someone talk a bit about Knockout Kings! It's sort of been forgotten after Fight Night took over, but the bones of Fight Night started with Knockout Kings
In Australia, Beetle Adventure Racing got released as well as a reskin version called HSV Adventure Racing, with the cars being Holden HSV Commodores instead of VM Beetles.
I think they hype was bought. It was always published in magazines but I don't know anyone that really got into it. I attribute it to the fact that I probably wasn't the target demographic at that time.
John, you have to remember, at that point, there was only one FPS Duke Nukem, and 2 sidescrollers. So Duke Nukem being an FPS was actually the outcast.
Note to anyone who does not know. Magical Tetris Challenge is not just another Tetris. It introduces new shapes to the mix, something 98% of the other Tetrises don't do.
Yes, originally Fighting Force was going to be Streets of Rage 4. At least it was pitched that way, but Eidos wanted it to be multiplatform and obviously SEGA wasnt cool with that and declined.
He just pumps stuff out with very little research done and just the most basic commentary. I’m new to this channel and it’s kinda like comfort food but he’s not the most insightful content creator.
Phantom Menace premiered in theaters in March of '99, Racer released in June or July that summer, so not really sure where you'd be getting the idea the game came out before the film... Beetle Adventure Racing is one of the best racing games on the N64, bit of a hidden gem nowadays. People definitely shouldn't be so quick to dismiss it merely because of the licensing.
I know it didn come out in 99 but this is the year i played the living poop dawg out of ocarina of time, the greatest game ever made( well at least in imo lol) it and breath of the wild. Hope ur doing well mr john riggs and i wish u and ur family a wonderful and safe merry christmas!
“HELLO. YOU’VE GOT YOUR JOHN RIGGS HERE.” Cybernetic John Riggs interfaces with a gigantic video game system created by the gods, which represents all retro game consoles. As he navigates the cosmic arcade, each console unlocks a realm where the rules of its games become the laws of physics. With each victory, John gains fragments of divine code, slowly uncovering the mystery of the gods’ intentions-and why they entrusted this power to him. But lurking in the shadows of the system is a rogue AI, corrupted by forgotten cheat codes, determined to rewrite reality itself.
Something that I wish more game channels did was show a banner of the game title up top. I hate having to scroll back to be reminded of the title of a game that's new to me.
Castlevania Legacy of Darkness (the expanded version of Casltevania 64) was much improved and I just revisited it not long ago and I too love it more than I did back in 1999/2000.
Interesting fact: the Star wars episode 1 racer game released before the movie did in the United States but I got the game in December of 1998 and it wasn't fully completed. It was pretty much a prototype
Episode I and the Pod Racer game both coming out in 99 makes perfect sense to me. Edit: More Quake for your Bake. I actually like the beginning of Quake II 64 more then the PC game because it starts you with access to a Shotgun before you engage the enemy.
The Beetle was still a thing even later. My current car was an 2007 covertable. there is so little space in there. it has a back seat but nobody would ever be able to fit (little kids much less adults)
I was playing Castlevania and Smash but I was excited by the Dreamcast launch. I prepared for it, picked up some games that were put out early and stood in line at target before they opened. I ended up being the only one in line 😂 and the people inside didn't know what I was talking about
Man, that "Namco Museum 64" looks awesome! My grandma had "Ms. Pac Man" for gameboy, while my older bro had the Galaga/Galaxian for gameboy! they eventually grew out of playing those games.. luckily I didnt! as I still own their cartridges to this day!! "Sarge's Heroes" is pretty hard but still a lot of fun! That's one of those games that you're better off playing on an emulator with the quick-save..
Perfect Dark was (still is) my all-time favorite N64 game. It was the one game that got me to put down my Dreamcast controller. I bought it, and the memory pak deal on the same day. What a game! *Edit- I could have sworn I got Perfect Dark on the N64 in 1999.
Duke Nukem Zero Hour was pretty good. I had the choice between that game and Army Men Sarge's Heroes. Zero Hour does not hold up well today due to how slow it plays, but it was great for its time. The only drawback was that there were no checkpoints in any of the levels. There were quite a few sections where instant death occurred. You also had to remember what you did previously in a given level. If you took an elevator and went to the second floor of a building, but the time machine part was through some vents that led down to the first floor only have to use the elevator again to continue through the level, you had to remember to get out of the way when you push the button for the elevator to avoid being squashed. If you were squished, then you had to start the level over again.
As far as N64 Online is concerned: I figure it's reasonable to assume that Castlevania 64 could happen given that a port might be seen as more trouble than it's worth. Beetle Adventure Racing I could see the Volkswagen license being easier to obtain than the EA license if at all. Earthworm Jim 3D and Turok: Rage Wars will probably happen sooner or later. And no idea the likelihood of Shadowgate 64 or Resident Evil 2 but I hope to see them added someday all the same.
I preferred wcw/nwo revenge by myself, but with wcw nitro,me and my family had a GREAT time with it. It was easier to grasp (or just easier to mash buttons and get lucky which evened the playing field.) We tried ALL the rings and cheats, and would just laugh. Terrible game, but such a great memory.
I played superman 64 the night before my friends wedding.drinking hot damn lol.the LONGEST wedding talk,I'm on stage, the whole time trying not to run off stage, and barf😂 pure he'll! Superman64,should be mandatory at guantanamo bay!!😮
The Xena game is not bad at all. You should try it, thanks for reminding me it exists. Great for the brawler controller. The show was also pretty cool; like you I only saw it in passing but thinking retrospectively it is actually pretty awesome and understandably a success.
N64 was so great when you could get four controllers and 3 friends together. endless laughs with Mario Party, Kart, 007, NWO/WCW 😂 feel like I been the guy from your Mario Party story FOR sure 😂😂😂
a good year for the n64 lol ps1 was crushing everything in 99. i was in high school it was junior year every teenager i knew had a ps1 even the girls i knew had a ps1.
lmao "how I played Harvest Moon 64 is I took it out and played WWF Wrestlemania 2000 instead" the shade. As much as I enjoy Knockout Kings 2000 and easily the best imo for the N64 I do think there are better boxing games later. The Final Night series for the 360/PS3 era are pretty fun. Whenever I see one of these lists I'm always shocked at how many racing games there were for the system
What you said about Mario party when I first came out is how I felt about smash Brothers when it first came out I was like oh meh And then I rented it and oh my goodness I'm so glad I did I purchased it the next weekend
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes was good but flawed game. The Dreamcast version is better, but the PS1 version is the best, although with horrendous frame rates. Me and my brothers would play the two player mode for hours and hours. We even discovered a hidden two player level, which I'm not sure has been documented online yet. I would have to check.

My nieces and nephews, who are in their 20s and 30s now, still have fond memories of us playing the Mario Party games, a lot of fun.
☺️☺️☺️
John Riggs working in a video store during 1999 is the most John Riggs thing I’ve heard haha
Yep! Video Update.
Diddy Kong Racing, San Francisco Rush 2049, and Wave Race 64 remain my favorite N64 racing games.
Those are great games!
So cool to see someone talk a bit about Knockout Kings! It's sort of been forgotten after Fight Night took over, but the bones of Fight Night started with Knockout Kings
Shadow Man was such a criminally underrated game
In Australia, Beetle Adventure Racing got released as well as a reskin version called HSV Adventure Racing, with the cars being Holden HSV Commodores instead of VM Beetles.
Never played Army Men but I remember it had a ton of hype and seemingly came out of nowhere
I think they hype was bought. It was always published in magazines but I don't know anyone that really got into it. I attribute it to the fact that I probably wasn't the target demographic at that time.

I really enjoy Magical Tetris Challenge. It is very fun and challenging
Thanks.
How do you put that link to the game name or does youtube do that automatically?
Yes, originally Fighting Force was going to be Streets of Rage 4. At least it was pitched that way, but Eidos wanted it to be multiplatform and obviously SEGA wasnt cool with that and declined.
Jet Force Gemini, never beat it on account that you have to find every single one of those teddy bears.
Bruh there not teddy bears u have to collect them there little space creatures whatever im about to chant ecw ecw
Star Wars Episode 1 came out in 1999, so the game being out in the same year made perfect sense?
He may have confused it with the Star Wars re-release in 1997.
He just pumps stuff out with very little research done and just the most basic commentary. I’m new to this channel and it’s kinda like comfort food but he’s not the most insightful content creator.

John's a good dude and easy to listen to. I love his takes even if it isn't the most researched or played(never beat Crono Trigger)😂.
Yeah, homeboy isn’t too concerned with being knowledgeable about his topics. There’s misinformation in every single one of his videos.
Mario Golf RULES
a fascinating display of cute graphics, and excellent physical simulation
PLUM needs to return
You have dope frames John Riggs. If I wore glasses I’d probably get ones similar
Liked the video before I skipped the ad; that's how confident I am this will be good!
Right?! Just like pizza: even if it’s bad , it’s still good. Lol.
haha, well, glad you did. Unless you really love adblockers and 'liked' the ad for adblockers (which is weird)
@JohnRiggs I'm fairly certain it counted towards your likes!!
Jeremy is the embodiment of all the burned friendships from the first Mario Party game
haha, he held it together just fine. I still see Jeremy around town from time to time. He stays off of social media
I love chameleontwist 2 I used to rent it at blockbuster all the time😢I’ll need to grab me a copy one day.
I have never heard of that game in my life. I wish you luck in finding a copy because that has to be rare. What kind of game is it?
Phantom Menace premiered in theaters in March of '99, Racer released in June or July that summer, so not really sure where you'd be getting the idea the game came out before the film...

That commercial for SSB was jarring for a 10 year old me seeing the Nintendo characters tripping and beating each other up haha I loved it.
Gauntlet Legends is the GOAT!

Hope you’re doin good Riggs. I enjoy your videos and have for years. Happy new man.
Hanging in there, best we can.
A transparent bug would be really cool, for like 3 days. Can you imagine how dirty/cloudy it would get?
Superman 64 has a level select cheat. FYI.
Also, Superman: Shadow of Apokolips was the game we should've gotten for N64.

merry christmas MR. Riggs, wish you and your family the best.
Resident evil 2 is my favorite 64 game for sure
Love these videos.
Resident Evil 2 was/is a favorite for me. It’s still a really impressive achievement getting that game to run that well on the 64.
Love the 64. This vid is a lot of fun!
Still loving these videos. Looking forward to the next.

The xena game is actually really fun. I've only played it on an emulator for first time recently. Its like street fighter but in 3D with swords.

For me, Superman 64 was a rental from Hollywood Video that went back before the 5 day rental period...

These longer videos are much better than the shorter ones :)
I only make videos as long as they need to be.
The Nintendo64 so good in my country. Greeting from Kingdom of Jolof. Merry Christmas. Sad about the Diddy in jail!

I too have never been in a beetle nor know of anyone who had one. Pretty crazy considering there were so many on the road!
I don't think saying Duke had to be first person in 99, he'd had one FPS and two side scrollers ; )
You also forgot nba live 2000 which was released in late 99 which featured Michael Jordan. Also nba showtime which was a great game.

Now it’s wirelessly connecting controllers and playing with people 873 miles away.
🤔
Episode 1 came out in theaters in 99.
1999 was a good year for the N64
Did Lego racers come out in 99?
shadow's was the earlier star wars. blew our minds.
Party like it's 1999!!..... Baby....
Ah limp bisket....
John Riggs is going to Party
(i mean play video games)
Like it was 1999!!
We all know that Superman 64 is going to be on this list as the worst N64 game. It's so bad that the people who play during the demo just give up.
Why is the gameplay so small? The giant borders are a little distracting
Star wars episode 1 came out in 1999. So it did come out the same year.
Great video John I needed that
1 man's opinion.... I've never seen a N64 game I've liked. What a rough system
As much as much people love No Mercy I prefer Virtual Pro Wrestling 2: Ōdō Keishō and WCW/nWo Revenge.
Oh, same. Without a doubt VPW2 is the best wrestling game on N64
a good year for the n64 lol ps1 was crushing everything in 99. i was in high school it was junior year every teenager i knew had a ps1 even the girls i knew had a ps1.
I remember they had just redesigned the VW Beetle in 1996 and had a strong marketing campaign. #Fahrvergnügen
"If You Ain't First Your Last!!!"
18:30 it's called third person, John.
Now I'm gonna party like is 1999
(insert Prince sfx)

20:40 war zone was good once you got to grips with it
Good video buddy
These videos are a great reminder of why I disliked the N64. 90% of the games are too dark or too blurry or both.
Tetris ds ft nintendo is the g.o.a.t
Star Wars Episode I came out in 1999 ‼
Casrlevania 64/LOD are great games! just not on par with the other castlevanias in direct comparison. Still fun. Fun jank.
Star Wars episode 1 came out in 1999.
I feel like Winback was closer to Metal Gear Solid for the N64.
It, for sure, is.
I would say Winback was more like Metal Gear Solid, well at least as far as Gameplay is concerned.
More Quake for your take?
What you said about Mario party when I first came out is how I felt about smash Brothers when it first came out I was like oh meh
And then I rented it and oh my goodness I'm so glad I did I purchased it the next weekend
I remember that! good lord. Well I guess it worked.
Podracer was the best game. I still play it on Switch all the time
Star Wars Episode I came out in 1999, not 1997.
South park was fun
Hi Riggs , how are you doing 👋😁
chillin'
•+•* Big Riggs 🚛 John *•+•
never steers me wrong!! 👍
No Ogre Battle 64??
Riggs the Rabbit! Riggs the Rabbit!
Xena on PS1 was a lot better, it was just a normal action adventure game but much better, and EA put that one out instead of Titus.
Why are they milking the Tetris?
Army Men: Sarge's Heroes was good but flawed game. The Dreamcast version is better, but the PS1 version is the best, although with horrendous frame rates.
