"Having to unlock content by playing the game... remember those days?" Yeah, I remember spending countless hours unlocking all the characters in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Dreamcast. Somehow I'm not nostalgic for that experience.
Have you heard about the crazy music repair of Donald Duck: Goin Quackers N64? It had apparently the most broken videogame soundtrack ever and a repair patch that took 2 years has been released now by Louis Miles.
I didn't realize that time could be slowed down in Majora's mask until after I beat it but I still loved the game. It was really fun to figure out all the NPC's crazy stories. Also, I've never seen such a powered up Link since then.

Carmageddon was an extremely violent PC game, the 64 port is infamous for how bad it is, and for changing the pedestrians to zombies and the blood to green slime
Hey Riggs, yeah I'm old enough to remember in the 90s Looney Tunes characters being crazy popular again, college sports teams jackets too, Michigan Wolverines was Tasmanian Devil, I know cuz I had it 😂 Good times 🔥💯
Cool channel. Was so excited when announced. Channel scanned day of. Kinda bland in the beginning but now it's really getting there. A good late night chill. Especially Saturday after super sci fi Saturday night.
I have good memories of taking on bots with my friend in Perfect Dark multiplayer. We always played on the level with the glass ceiling just so we could shoot at it and watch it rain glass😂.
Clearly you didn't watch Cartoon Network back in the day, they had a block on the network that played Looney Tunes cartoons and it's how kids like me were educated on those shorts.
Luxoflux didn't come from SingleTrac. Vigilante 8 was pretty much an Interstate '76 spinoff, and the people behind Vigilante 8 did make a Star Wars game on the same engine though. If you ever wanted to trash a podracer as an AT-ST there you go. After that they were bought by Activision and made... the Shrek 2 game. Oh, Activision...
Majora's Mask is excellent and much darker and eerie than Ocarina of Time. It is definitely worth the playthrough but you'll need the walkthrough for many of the masks because it would be too difficult to get every masks and the final mask all by yourself...Some of the scenes from many of the sidequests are quite special.
OgreBattle RULES. It's a slog in the beginning, but once your medieval platoon of brawlers gain better equipment & experience, an Epic WAR sweeps over the continent.
That's because it was made by what would become one of the major Final Fantasy teams of that era, the people who made ogre battle (and the tactics ogre games) went on to make the ivalice ff games (Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 12, and Vagrant Story) among other things.
8:47 Perfect Dark is my favorite game of all time... because of it's splitscreen multiplayer. Such a fleshed out, impassioned game by its developers. So must customization in the Combat Simulator! And nowadays with the fan PC port, 60+fps no problem, choice of any controller, Xbox or N64 (via Raphnet adapter) or PC M&K... and even mods. Best FPS ever
Surprised I was not aware of super bowling 64. I still call the WWE WWF. Don't care for Kevin Sorbo, I think he is a clone(same mindset ) of John Calvin,a bitter Renaissance humanist ,live in the 1500's ,think if Donald Trump live in the 1500's. ECW=The Federal League of pro wrestling. Hey You, Pikachu! Is offered listed as the worst N64 games of all time. IMO: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time over The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask,I find Majora's Mask too restricted. While I am aware of you disclaimer on Spiderman the movie, however it is 2002 I do remember they had scrubbed the OG trailer because of that thing.
for some reason I could never gel with banjo tooie, banjo kazooie is one of my favorite games of all time, but the sequel just didn't work for me, similar to what john said about his experience with majora's mask.
I asked ChatGPT to give me the name of the first racing game to have Jesus as a playable character and it said there were no racing games that have Jesus. After I called ChatGPT a liar, it finally found the South Park game, but still insists that it is the only game with playable and racing.

Love your content, John! Do you do interviews or collab for discussions with other content creators? I have a late night talk show that goes live on Wednesdays at 10PM EST and I’d love to have you on and chat video games
You said you wish there was a Mario Dodgeball game... well there is dodgeball in Mario Sports Mix on Wii, and it's pretty good. Another Mario sports game that I wish they would make is Mario Wrestling!
With John Riggs talking Hydroplane racing it makes me think of...Bill Munsey driving? Piloting? Captaining? The Atlas Van Lines Hydroplane and constantly winning in the 70s.
Best N64 game of the year 2000 I think is perfect dark because that is my favorite N64 game of all time. Yes I did also play GoldenEye growing up but perfect dark was a huge improvement in every way. I look forward to the list when I watch the video
Dude, the Tarzan game was top notch! I was 13 when it came out and having watched the movie the day it came out I was destined to really enjoy the game. Would I like it now? That's a good question.
I grew up on Hercules and Xena. Couldn’t do Sinbad, and Kevin Sarbo is the Hercules you’re referring to (I know you’re not doing a Voldemort/can’t say his name, but FYI 😂)
Just got back from Japan for Wrestle Kingdom 19 festivities. It’s crazy to think ECW had a SECOND game come out just 6 months after Hardcore Revolution. A lot of it hasn’t aged well but I miss ECW. I doubt I would be as into wrestling as I am if not for the dying days of that promotion. People crap on the last two years of the original ECW but I “f’n” loved it.
Man, you and me are of one mind on Majora's Mask. Every word you said was in my head before you said it. I felt/feel the same way for the same reasons. I'm glad it's there for folks who dig it, but it's definitely not my bag.
The arcade version of Spy Hunter I was literally the second video game I ever played right after the original Star Wars arcade game at my favorite pizza place.
I share your Majora Mask experience. Huge Zelda fan but this didn’t click with me for the same reason you said. Lose the time mechanic (I know, I know) and I’m sure I would have loved it. Still haven’t finished it to this day, prob won’t.
Perfect Dark: The game I've heard about many times during years, just never played/owned the game. I also never played Kirby 64. My fav. N64 game was probably Quake 64, which came out in 1998. Back in the days I had 8 N64 games, pretty weird I didn't own all 3 Turok games or 2 Zelda games for N64. I also never owned Banjo Kazooie 64.
Stop reminding me that I've spent more time in the 21st than the 20th Century. Now Starcraft 64, that's timeless. I last played it before I moved. Haven't played Ogre Battle for even longer. Have both of them and they are originals. No repros here.
Vigilante 8 ( 1 and 2') was a great game everywhere. The fact that the vheicles had better physics than the ones on Twisted Metal, the game was a little tough to control.
Hercules was blah, but Xena- that game is terrible but so much cheesy fun! 😂 Nice list, John. Most I know, and own quite a few. But there were a few I’d never played. Can’t wait to get that Analogue 3D! Thank you, sir !
For some reason, a couple of the RTS games on N64 just work. I always found the controller made playing StarCraft 64 and command and conquer pretty decent on the console. Rather play StarCraft 64 than the Warcraft II port on PS1
Were the days before DLC where you had to unlock things really great? How about buying a fighting game day one and you go home to play with friends and half the roster is locked? How about when you put all the hard work into unlocking everything and something happens to your save or memory card? DLC sucks but locking things behind gameplay wasn't much better.
I love you John, but saying you prefer Turok 3 to Turok 2, one of the all time worst sequels, to perhaps the single best n64 game of all time, is the single most monstrous thing I've ever heard on youtube. Turok 2 is absolutely phenomenal, and turok 3 is a disgrace to the medium. *everybody is entitled, to their opinion, but I couldn't let that one stand.
"Perfect Dark is the game that Goldeneye should have been" Woah woah woah woah woah woah woah. I don't exactly know what you mean by that... but lets not get crazy here. There is a huge % of N64 players who prefer Goldeneye to Perfect Dark, and I am one of them. Perfect Dark has an absolutely unplayable framerate. At least Goldeneye manages to stay above 20fps most of the time. I much preferred the Bond Spy theme over the Alien Government Spy Theme. Never got into PD at all.
I do like retro video games! I watch a lot of these types of videos! For the nostalgia! But to me N64 I absolutely didn't care for! After N64 which I got rid of very fast! After a short while!
14:30 The guy who plays Hercules is awsome what are you talking about. Kevin Sorbo has been a real soldier for common sense in these crazey culture wars
I didn’t care much for the Hercules tv show but the N64 game was fun especially the later game. Like a more arcade style Ocarina light action rpg. What’s wrong with the actor??

I would very easily argue WCW Nitro is the worst wrestling video game for the N64. You have got to be kidding me 😮? What was so wrong with it cause I can see someone making a video on just that fact alone.
Pokémon stadium was my favorite game on N64 in 2000.
Majora's Mask and No Mercy were definitely my two most-played N64 games in 2000.
Are you kidding, Mario Tennis is STILL s-tier to this day.
I got my n64 Christmas of '99, 12 going on 13, with Smash Bros being the first game.. so I was definitely in the market for anything released in 2000.
I didn't realize that time could be slowed down in Majora's mask until after I beat it but I still loved the game. It was really fun to figure out all the NPC's crazy stories. Also, I've never seen such a powered up Link since then.
Mario Tennis was simple & fun with great physics & graphics. Pick up and play anytime. The kids loved it !! Not a complicated mess of button combinations like all the tennis games on future systems.
Plus, it introduced the world to the amazing Waluigi.
Carmageddon was an extremely violent PC game, the 64 port is infamous for how bad it is, and for changing the pedestrians to zombies and the blood to green slime
I only ever played it on PC but I can imagine how bad it was on the N64
