- Climbing Great Gable (899m) from Seathwaite Farm on a gorgeous sunny day, that gave breath taking views from the summit. From the farm, we went up via Sourmilk Gill, through the valley and on to Green Gable, before dropping down to Windy Gap and the final push to Great Gable. It was a stunning day and a fitting end for @Stephen Robinson to complete his final Wainwright. Well Done mate!

Good afternoon Alan, what a great hike and a cracking day for it, the veiws from the summit are something special. It's a steep steep climb mind, we hiked if from Honister slate mine, taking I'm green Gable and looping around. Really enjoyed seeing if from this approach, those veiws back over lake land were phenomenal! Just breath taking ⛰👍🥰
The section from Green to Great is torturous, scree and scramble, but again the veiws soften the blow. The memorial plaque is nice at the top, thanks for the summit veiws our was a cloudy day. Wow! ❤👍☕
Maaaaasive lol a day that will live long in the memory, congratulations to Steven! Well done for pushing on Alan, not an easy mountain, so many path, is a hikers dream land! Fair play to the runners, we'll stick to the walking. Hope you enjoyed your dinner, great video as alway, catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ❤👍☕⛰🌞
Thanks very much for watching and the great comment. I have hiked it before from Honister and we had a break on Green Gable. I sat for 5 minutes eating my sandwiches, turned around and Great Gable had completely vanished - the mist had rolled in over the summit, real spooky. Thankfully today was so much better but I thought this was a tougher route, I was bloody knackered when I got back to the chariot😖. I can confirm the steak was up to it's normal superb standard, a dam fine way to end a brilliant day, cheers Alan
Great to see you relaxed and not frozen to death, Alan................................... Love to hear the water.......................... yes, we need a lot of smiles!!!! Gorgeous walk.................... and one can see your drink going down!!! Very wise... Great places to take selfies too!!! Love those truly high rocks.... amazing views!
It was a brilliant day with even better views, a bit on the warm side for me and with no breeze it really drained me but I would settle for a day like that every day of the week. Thanks very much for watching Francisca, cheers Alan
Very beautiful place, Thanks for posting! Thumbs up! Have a great day!
That's good of you to watch and comment, the views were stupendous at the top, so pleased that I did it and filmed it, cheers Alan
like 111 Alan with a full view as always - great upload showcasing the trek to Great Gable from Seathwaite farm
Thanks for the visit, real good of you and a very enjoyable day out, cheers Alan
What a feeling of accomplishment! Another great hike. This time you’re not alone. Lots of hikers there.
So true, the views from the summit are absolutely sensational! Beautiful mountains and lake. The hard climb is well worth it!
It was so worth the hard climb, on a very hot hot but the views made up for it, I was so pleased I completed it. Thanks you so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Absolutely stunning! Those views are phenomenal. Well worth that tough hike up. So incredibly beautiful, Alan.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind words, very much appreciated. It was a tough day but such a rewarding one, we all had a blast, cheers Alan
Enjoyed watching this one with my wife! She got a kick out of your humor! Amazing views from the top - the colors!
Thanks for stopping by Randy and your good lady taking the time to watch and even get my 'humour', many don't😂. Take care all, cheers Alan
You had a cracking day for it Alan. Bet you are pleased you didn't stop at Windy Gap to get those great views from Great Gable. A great fell for Stephen to complete his Wainwrights. Cheers. Eddie.
Thankfully we got (as Stephen said) Eddies weather😂 and the views were breath taking, if I had been there on my tod, I would have sat there for hours. I was real pleased for Stephen, such a good day for him but such a shame there were not more people there to celebrate it with him, cheers Alan
Wow what a day Alan , perfect conditions for Steven to complete his 214 Wainwright . Some really steep ascents and descent so fair play for sticking out . I was camping on Red Pike at the weekend and dropped down off High Crag then back to Bowness Knott ,so we had stunning views of Green and great Gable . It will be on my list of summits to do now. TFS atb Dave
Dropping down of High Crag is a bit of a beast Dave, I came off there myself last summer and real lucky with only one fall😳. Thanks for watching, real good day and I was so pleased for Stephen, cheers Alan
wow Great Gable, awesome footage Alan, like 59 with a full view, have a lovely week ahead
Thanks, you too! Cheers Alan

Such beautiful scenery. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching, real god of you and a tough old climb but well worth it for the amazing views at the top. Cheers Alan
What a lovely day to hang out in the hills with your mates.... I couldn't do 3 miles up there let alone 30!! Such crisp colours and shapes too Alan.
Those runners blew me away, I was huffing and puffing going up 2 summits and they were doing about 10 of them, covering 30 miles😳. Real pleased for Stephen, finishing his 214 on such a gorgeous day and on such a specular mountain, tiring day but a real good one. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Fantastic video Alan and well done to Stephen on completing his first round of the Wainwrights. Coming off Great Gable was the first time I feared for my life on a hike. I missed the path you took down, I still don't know which path I took but it was proper can barely see in front of you fog where you needed to navigate with a map and compass and I found myself stuck on a rock with a scree slide on either side and no way of telling if I was going to slide to safety or off a cliff. Thankfully, I made it off safely but I had no landmarks to take a compass bearing and was almost completely lost.
It's a beast of a hill. Really glad you found the fuel in your tank to get to the top of it... because I had no idea what the views were like and now I do. Thank you. Take care, Alice.
Wow that sounds scary and yes the path was not that easy to find going down but when we did find it (in good light) it was a canny descent down, much better than the up path. I still managed to slip and fall flat on my back mind😖, thankfully a thing rucksack saved any injury - just pride😂. Good of you to watch and comment, take care, cheers Alan
Lovely location that mate. 👍😎
Aye, cracking, first time I had done any walk from the farm but a superb location and so many different walking options from there, I will be back there again. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Absolutely fantastic Alan!! Hats off to you for making it to the top again, that looked tough for sure 👍🏻 what a glorious day, breathtakingly beautiful! Thank you as always for capturing it so well. Cheers!
It was too hot for me and with not a breath of wind, I was drained to be honest but so pleased I made it to the tip, the views were insane. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan

Haha, thanks for watching Trev and It was a tough old climb up the final summit with mostly hands and feet, the rest was loose scree😖. Worth if for the view we got mind, ended up being a brilliant day but trying to keep up with people who walk 3 times a week and have done during the lockdown's (locals) was tough going mind😳. Thanks for watching, cheers Alan
Wow, what an awesome day weather wise to do a Wainwright! Great Gable too, on our hit list eventually, not too sure if that will be on our next visit to the Lakes! Blown away by your filmed views though, and well done to your friend for completing all 214 Wainwrights! Cheers, Simon👍
Thanks very much for watching Simon and we hit on lucky with the weather, which allowed amazing views from the summit. Real pleased fir Stephen, nice one for him to finish on, cheers Alan
Those views are something else. Beyond words. The path down from Cadair Idris last week was a knee-breaker, tough going! Those views though, it was your lucky day, fabulous - just jaw dropping! 😊

Thanks for watching Phil and I did Green Gable about 3 years ago, had a break on the summit with the intention of going Great Gable next. By the time I had eaten my bait, the mist had come in and you could not see your hand in front of you😖. No problems with mist on this once, cracking weather, cheers Alan
Fantastic mate. Once again thank you for joining me on The Gable 😁👍

Stunning walk that Alan.
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
That was a perfect bluebird day Alan, you couldn't have wished for better. We have a saying when it comes to the steeper climbs. "You don't have to get there fast, you just have to get there!" Never won a hike getting up to the top first, and that's the truth. You win a hike when you get back to the car park and can say, "That was a good day!" I think you were able to say that at the end of this one. Fantastic views on this one. This might be our new favourite video of yours. Absolutely stunning. If that place was near us, we'd be up there all the time. We'd hit that thumbs up 4 times if we could, but you'll have to settle for the one. Great job sticking through that. We're really glad you did, otherwise we'd not have seen it!
That is a superb saying and so right and I never worry about time when I do a solo hike but a bit different when you are out with good hikers. Real nice of you to stop by and I really appreciate your kind words, cheers Alan
899m a good summit indeed... I think you can see my house from up there..lol. Absolutely stunning Alan.
I wondered who it was waving😂. It was a tough old climb up the final summit with mostly hands and feet, the rest was loose scree😖. Worth if for the view we got mind, ended up being a brilliant day. Thanks for watching and waving Max! Cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN I was wondering if you would see me.... It is only a short 5,500 miles from here....LOL

Well done Alan 👍 super effort to push on and make it all the way, you would have kicked yourself if you didn't make it, and the views were outstanding, you said it in the video as well, perfect weather for it 👍 keep safe. Paul
Thanks Paul and you were so right, I would have kicked myself all the way down if I had binned the final summit, which was awesome. It was a hot day and there was not a breath of wind walking through the valley but just so pleased I gave it that extra push. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thanks for another great video, Alan! I haven't done Great Gable yet and am a bit wary about it. It helps to see it in people's videos, to get an idea of what's ahead.
Glad it was helpful Lynsey and the heat was a real factor for me, as anything over 20C drains me and the lack of even a breeze, really magnified that. Layers upon layers of mountains there. Such a beautiful place. Looks like a pretty steep trail. You did a fantastic job conquering this one.
Thank you very much Josh and It was a tough old climb up the final summit with mostly hands and feet, the rest was loose scree😖. Worth if for the view we got mind, ended up being a brilliant day. Thanks for stopping by buddy, appreciate it, cheers Alan
Great job.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Stunning is the correct word. Wow Alan! This hike looks like it's right out of movie. I always find it interesting on some of your hikes there are no trees at all. I guess thats one of the reasons the views are so great! Looks like coming down on those loose rocks you must have to take your time so they don't move around like marbles under your feet. Its great to see you out there enjoying yourself!
Glad you enjoyed it and real nice of you to stop by. You called it mind, just before the bottom, I slipped on a loose stone and went flat on my back😖, thankfully the padding in my backpack stopped any injury 😛. Still a brilliant day out. Take care, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN I do it everytime. Even with my hiking poles in hand. Glad you were ok!
Good morning 🌻💗💗💗 may lav

Your cinematography skills Alan are really impressive, some amazing scenery there. Camped many times at Seathwaite Farm, and Great Gable is a fantastic mountain especially on a clear day like that. Was hoping for some shots of Stockley Bridge but you seemed more intent on getting back to eating some steak. Where were you staying or were you just up there for the day? Yes, one truly brilliant film, Five Stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for watching Mike and I did get some film of the bridge but there were so many people on it and I wanted it all to myself, so spat my dummy out and scrapped the footage. First time I had been to the farm Mike and did not realise you can camp and park there again, I will be back. I can confirm the steak, chips and mushrooms were up to their normal superb standard 😋. Cheers Alan
Nice place my friend
Thanks for visiting, real nice of you to watch and take the time to leave a comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
From one metal head to another Really enjoying these vids and you can thank Karen for me being a new sub. Loved your spooky stories from the school, made me chuckle a bit.
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment, real good of you. Yes, Karen is a real canny lass and so genuine, which is good to see. Been into metal since my first live gig in 1971, seeing Deep Purple in Newcastle. Cost me 0.70p for the ticket and I still have the ticket stub to this day, cheers Alan
