    The best excavator breakdown was about 20 years ago. We where putting in 2000ft of 4ft cement culvert and it was a very hot summer. The machine broke the eye for the pin that holds the boom to the house. Mind you I'm in the trench not the machine it's humid and 101 degrees in the shade that I wasn't in. It took 3 days to fix. Those 3 days where the hottest 3 days of the summer

    Just because the outer rubber is perished does not mean you have to change all the hoses, i have hydraulic hoses where the outer rubber is crumbled away 10+ years ago and the hose still works just fine :-)

    Use a speed handle to undo nuts and bolts quickly or use a bracebit with a socket adapter on it. Or even a Yankee screwdriver with a socket adapter on it from Lee Valley tools.
    I often use a two-speed egg beater drill with a socket adapter on it, or with a screwdriver adapter on it.
    I seldom use drill bits in my egg beaters.
    I love my cordless egg beaters. They never need batteries. 😀

    I think you can get som interesting video if you attach a camera on the side of the bom just behind the bucket so we can se what you do with the bucket and thumb, as long as it does not risk damage to said camera of cause. Can maintenance prolong hydraulic line life like to stop them blowing or is it always go till you blow and then replace? Thanks for yet another interesting and entertaining video.

    Hello Matt, great video as always, this is the real life! Up to min. 14:16 at least, you're home I think so, yes, is detrimental but, upon seeing what you're seeing, I guess and please don't take me wrong, I guess we need to give more maintenance to our vehicles. I know you're busy just as I am, just a suggestion to every year have your equipment bellies open for a quick check up and, if you see the "skin" of a hose, maybe is time to review it and replace it before it blows and then, you may be forced to delay a job outside of your home which is not the same. Ok I'll get back to my class, am learning with you!
    Up to min 18:47 If this hose is not too expensive, is it worth it to have a couple handy in your shop, long enough so, if in case one blows you have one or two long enough you can install? If is too long you can shorten by making a little loop. Or and, if making it depends of having the crimping machine, is it worth it to then by the crimper and some hose, so, if any time one "wants to break", you make one right there? Then you'll start selling hydraulic lines hahaha.

    Hose crimp dies and a couple reels of hose would be a big investment. But I think you would end up saving money in a very short time with the amount of old equipment you have. Replacing all the questionable hoses wouldn't be too expensive if you could make them yourself.

  • @patrickmichael8749
    @patrickmichael8749 Рік тому

      Have you seen container prices lately. I was going to buy one and they have jumped from the 3k to 3500 delivered price to now right about 9k. Screw that they are just to damn costly and one might as well build a small building for that price. I priced out one ball park 20x20 for around 10k with shingles and siding, osb inside instead of drywall and every thing else. That is going the cheap route.
