Sokka is in my top 5 if it helps. I really enjoy his character development. ( top five; 5 kiyi (if comics don't count than suki or iroh or aang) 4 Sokka, 3 Toph, 2 Katara 1 Zuko)

Sokka is much more powerful then we gave him credit for even if you don’t count his battle power his courage would deserve a medal all on its own.
I mean he is what? 14? And he attacked a fire nation person ( Zuko ) who has guards to defend his village. If the fire nation can wipe out a whole nation plus defeat multiple earth kingdom armies imagine how quick they coulda killed sokka. And sokka probably knew he could die but was willing to risk his life to defend his village. He also lead a attack on the fire nation which even just being a solider was courageous let alone leading it. And how many benders has he fought? He even defeated a guy who CAN MAKE EXPLOSIONS WITH HIM MIND ( combustion man aka “ sparky sparky boom man “ lol ) with just a boomerAANG ( lol ) which even just fighting a guy who can do that has to be courageous, that’s practically the equivalent with going against a tank with a boomerang. Plus in the invasion he gots the troops past the first line of defense with has to count for something. He also held his own against a person who can paralyze him and take bending away for a short period of time ( Ty Lee ) and a master swords man who has defeated many firebenders ( Piandao ) plus he even hit Zuko with his boomerang. Like I mean sokka has shown so much courage and skill that it’s kinda a shame we didn’t see more of it.
Yeah, he may not be able to bend but that doesn't make he's ordinary. His skills make him a worthy opponent against anybody in the series.
