This is a great initiative. Aluminum production requires vast amounts of cheap electricity, moving production west gives access to hydro power close to source (w/o huge transmission loss), displaces a lot of coal power capacity originally needed. Hopefully this is part of greater trend to move electricity heavy industries west closer to enormous renewable sources.

I remember studying in Sydney in 2008, our economy teacher and textbook said that while China is becoming the factory for the world, it is at a cost of their environment, that is why all the west countries decided to move the manufacturing industries out of their country to protect their environment.
Because of the belief in the market driven economy, they cannot regulate factories in using expensive renewable energy sources, also due to the price of labor, more industries and factories in the west cannot find the next step in keeping financial benefits as well as preserving the environment.
I am happy that Chinese government pave a new path for massive industrial companies such as this one, and gave them the new path with the support automatic technology, as well as early renewable resources investments.

Amazing; China doesn't go big or go home, China just goes big and does it. And China does it in a mindboggling short amount of time. America has done some impressive projects like SpaceX, and web commerce, but what China does is amazing in areas America is shamefully inadequate in -- infrastructure and mega-industrial projects. It seems American infrastructure projects, if it isn't cancelled, is always massively overrun by cost, bureaucracy and late as a norm.

The largest global polluter making a video about saving the environment.....no one comments because it's obvious to a 3 years old, CCP Propaganda.
The only thing missing would be happy Uighur's and Falun Gong dancing in the street, maybe they could add the dead bodies of Chinese democracy protesters from Tiananmen Square for more realism.

    FANTASTIC on the ground realities:
    * China western regions will host more & more such projects - hence, will probably yield double digit growth in localised GDP this year onwards...!
    * the MULTIPLIER EFFECTS of supporting industries and businesses are so beneficially LOCALISED that many of the younger population does not need to migrate to the eastern regions to find work...
    * the projected progressively growing & growing higher incomes of these western regions in the mid & longer term will ultimately contribute to the overall strategic DUAL CIRCULATION & CIRCULAR ECONOMIES!
    KUDOS!!!

In US, our environment policy is to focus's how well China do in clean up their air pollution. We have Beijing Embassy publish AQI daily. As long as the campaign contribution keep coming, our politician will focus on Chinese's record in clean airs.
