I remember when I first watched Tourist Trapped. I was like 5-7 years old, and I thought to myself “This is going to be a great show.” Now, rewatching the show on Disney+, I feel so emotional and nostalgic. Gravity Falls will always hold a special place in my heart.

I was 12 when it came out, though I didn't actually get to see the full show until my late teens when I found the episodes on UA-cam, mom thought it was satanic or promoting witchcraft or something because of the books. Kind of funny that I'm now a massive fan of the owl house, which is literally about a girl learning to be a witch😂

What I loved about Gravity Falls is that Alex Hirsch went to the extent to include codes at the end of each episode so the viewers could decode them and he even made a scavenger hunt for fans so they could get merch. I think this created a cool relationship between the show and its fanbase that feels much more fun and personal than just reading up about the show online

I was continually shocked by Gravity Falls. (Warning: long post ahead!)
I watched some early commercials and thought it would be just a dumb kids' show. But on June 15th, 2012 I was so bored that I watched an hour-long UA-cam video in Spanish. I do not speak Spanish. So I decided that whatever this new show was, it couldn't possibly be more boring than what I had just watched.
The cold open was enough to get me interested. It did take a while to get going after that, but by the time they got to that scene in the episode, I had already decided to watch to the end of the episode. Then, Grunkle Stan stepped behind the vending machine, and suddenly I was hooked. At that point I knew this was no ordinary show. I could easily see myself watching this show a lot for the foreseeable future.
A dark chapter in my personal GF story follows the episode Little Dipper. This episode was hyped up waaaaaay too much as the return of Lil' Gideon. And it was a great episode, like all GF episodes are, but it didn't quite reach the level I expect from a villain return episode.
Fortunately, during the first hiatus just one episode later, I found something that made me go from just casual fan to dedicated fan: I had just beaten the online game "Fright Night" when it gave me a coded message. I spent all of the next day trying to decode the message. Then I watched a rerun of the first episode on TV. Since the end credits were just a gnome barfing rainbows the whole time, my eyes drifted down to the credits. That's when I saw the coded message there. Finally, I had a lead. So I went on UA-cam and searched for any videos on decoding Gravity Falls. And I found them. I found a video decoding ZHOFRPH WR JUDYLWB IDOOV into WELCOME TO GRAVITY FALLS using the Caesar cipher. Then I decided to try the same thing with the game code. As it turns out, BRX DUH WKH JUHDWHVW PBVWHUB KXQWHU translates to YOU ARE THE GREATEST MYSTERY HUNTER. Then I did some more investigations and decoded the other 11 episodes. A couple months later, I watched Boss Mabel with the enthusiasm of the greatest mystery hunter, but unfortunately I was so focused on trying to find the code that I forgot to watch the Stan Wrong Song.
I continued decoding the credits messages for the next 7 episodes. Then following Gideon Rises, I started watching the theory videos that started coming out on channels like Vailskibum94 and The Royal Order of the Holy Mackerel while I waited out the full 52 weeks between seasons. At the beginning of the hiatus, I was a dedicated fan of Gravity Falls. At the end, 90% of my browser history was dedicated to solving the mystery of Gravity Falls. I found out all about the AMA, I watched the shorts multiple times, I was there as we analyzed every frame and every word of every episode and every short up, down and backwards. I was desperate for new content. And boy did the show deliver!
Early season 2 was probably the height of my obsession with Gravity Falls. That was when there was the best balance of evidence to study and mystery yet to solve using that evidence. I was constantly watching videos, writing in code, and refreshing Reddit for any new theories that might have popped up. I took into account every theory. I tried to solve every mystery. I liked hiatuses and even advocated for more of them because they gave us more time to analyze everything in light of the most recent episode. I rewatched every episode during each hiatus, and during shorter breaks I rewatched episodes that I felt were relevant to the next episode. As previews and new episodes started to come out online thanks to The Mystery of Gravity Falls, I helped analyze every frame of them just like we had done for the other episodes.
In later season 2, we made more and more connections. Mysteries started to have canon explanations. Because of this, the magic started to drain. But I still analyzed each preview, each episode, each activity, and each video analysis as they came out because by that point, I was going to stick it out even if the season finale sucked. (We thought the show would probably last for 3 seasons until the official announcement came somewhere around the first episode of the finale.)
Since then I've watched a lot of other shows that followed a similar formula, including Steven Universe, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Amphibia, The Owl House, and Milo Murphy's Law. But none of these can compare to the masterful experience that was Gravity Falls. Gravity Falls is the greatest show of all time and I will fight you on that point.
I defo agree sooooooo much, I can’t even complain how long that comment was I lived the same thing just later than yours I literally love and basically live gravity falls since 2020 and probably would’ve commented the same thing you said.
This show was so great and I think a big part of that is that it was planned from the beginning, they weren't just flying by the seat of their pants. I think another reason is there was no network interference and they let that plan unfold as intended.
And I applaud Disney, Alex and the rest of the Gravity Falls team for blessing us with such a great show even if it lasted only two seasons.
Not true they did have network interference they read the silliest censor notes once a year at a podeum to the monty python theme song.
Amphibia and The Owl House really do have huge Gravity Falls vibes. They are both my faveourite on-going cartoons ( you can't top Gravity Falls tho) and you can just see how they took the inspiration from it, the animation, the style, the amaizing details and worlds and the story and mystery while also being super funny asdfghjk they are just perfect shows and I am really happy to see what amaizing work the artists from Gravity Falls are creating now.
Putting it bluntly, Gravity Falls is the show that reignited my spark for animation.
When I was younger, I remember being so hyped about Gravity Falls since watching the first episode. But the thing is, I didn’t know how to do all the “deciphering” stuff. So, I just let the suspense of the series keep me interested because I wanted to be surprised. That’s usually how I watch shows. But I still feel like I missed out on the “experience” of being a part of the die-hard fanbase

A lot of people fall in love with the show the characters and the story and a lot are watching breakdowns,theories,hidden mysteries and others. Gravity Falls was a masterpiece created by Alex Hirch a lot people can agree that it's so sad to see the show end and they are wanting more that being said we are going to miss this show so much 💕💕💕

Thank you for making this. I absolutely love this show! A friend told me about it in 2015, and at first I thought it was a “kids show” and I laughed him off... but then I decided to take a look online, and I was hooked. I savored the few episodes that were released that fall and in 2016, then I bought the third journal and I currently own the blu-ray box set. This show is so special to me and there really isn’t anything like it. Great video

In my opinion, the owl house is the successor of gravity falls. While the code solving isn't really there like in gravity falls, the characters, the mystery, the comedy, the plot, it feels like a continuation of the best show ever made. I also have a theory that the boiling ilse is the dimention which leaks to gravity falls, the reason for the paranormal activity. Right now, don't have evidence. If you find something, feel free to send.

I love the show and the fact that there is the see you next summer thing and how Alex wont give us a yes or no answer of a 3rd season is driving me insane, but on the other end I feel so bad for alex and everyone who put so much into the show, i feel bad that all the fans pressure him into doing another season, and it must feel so terrible that there are ppl commenting on posts to have another season, to make more books, ect. Its sad how some dont understand how much that can hurt someone's mental state some dont even care. Its almost like your letting your fans down. dont get me wrong i of course want more episodes and i want it to go on forever as most do, but all the late nights and falling asleep as your drawing, its just not good for anyone, i wish everyone and the team to gravity falls the best of luck, it has inspired me to do so much and to already start making plans to do work like they did, i hope that one day i could be half as good as what they do, i wish the best of luck to everyone!!!

I just re-binged Gravity Falls S1 and S2 last week, I'm very happy/sad/depressed/anxious/sad. I should recover after a couple weeks or months.
Alex really inspires me to become an animator. I may not know how to animate yet or have story fully planned out as of yet but I do want to get there one day and even if I don't I'd love to be part of the process that makes great shows like Gravity Falls.
