Feeling Let Down After This South London Fry Up

- Feeling very let down if i'm honest in the South London Cafe. I had high expectations for this fry up and instead was let down by the quality. This South London cafe was not off the charts unfortunately. So hence the title - Feeling let down after this south London fry up. Breakfast produce wise, this is not a quality breakfast fry up. Shame.
After this breakfast fry up I visit Urban Rider and purchased some items for my up and coming road trip from London to Tenerife on my Ducati Streetfighter V2

After a lifetime UK Lorry Driving I think I know a thing or two about Cafe's that serve a decent cuppa and fry-up. You couldn't beat them and you would have had many "Off The Charts" places to visit. I'm 80 and well retired now and glad I am. Most of those Greasy Spoons have now disappeared and it's McDonalds, Burger King, KFC for drivers now, brought on, I think, by the new generation of "Truckers". (We oldies were Lorry Drivers) I'm so glad I lived through the best years of Greasy Spoons and I don't envy the young ones one little bit with their Mc.D's Egg & Bacon Burger etc., give me a Full English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish any day. Agree, Lorry Drivers know all the best places for Breakfast, My dad had a haulage business, I used to love it when I got to go with him & we had breakfast out, Thats 45+ years ago now but it was a real treat from the horrible sandwiches & flask he used to do for shorter journeys, I remember one transport cafe that had a miner bird that swore like a trooper.
Yeah your old school cliff and your right you don't find many proper places to enjoy a beautiful fry up

Love the old lorry drivers. In the days when hitch hiking was relatively easy in the 70s I would hitch up the A1 from North London to Scotch Corner and home. Lorry drivers would often pick me up and sometimes even bought me a meal in a filling station. Happy memories.👏👍
Oh my goodness DJ this was so emotional. My dad passed away 5 years ago and he brought me up with the carpenters...and you know when you haven't heard a song in years and then all of a sudden!!!! Another great video! Not sure if you already went there, but I'd like to suggest the Bus Café in Waterloo Bus Garage: it's the bus garage canteen but it's open for the public. They serve a nice English Breakfast for around £6 with coffee/tea included.

I gave up sugar in my teens … I went one month without sugar … after one month I couldn’t stand anything sweet in my hot drinks … never looked back .. try it Darren for one month … just put nothing sweet in your drinks! You get used to it really quickly and it works … breakfast looked fine to me … so it wasn’t butcher sausages .. but it looked hot and tasty and if you cooked that round a camp fire you’d love it! It’s all relative!! Very happy to see your UA-cam channel doing so well … I knew it would!

It looked all right on the plate.
When I used to work as a courier I went in that cafe a couple of times it was awful the cups of teas is like dish water and it’s very grubby in there food was ok not the best but never went back after the second time
Another great vlog, made me smile. Double Breakfast with sweeteners. That shows how hard you are trying. Because sweeteners leave an aftertaste. Bike footage interesting. Keep them coming DJ ❤

The problem is that most cafes get their supplies from the same wholesalers so the sausages are poor quality, the bacon is all water as are the mushrooms.
When I was a van driver in the 90's I used the Double Bubble in Garrat Lane in Earlsfield. If you asked for chips, they cut up potatoes, and the sausages were from the butchers opposite. Happy days.
Oh and the tea was super strong from a giant pot!!!

Yes Darren Great as usual. Have you ever thought of doing a book about all the caffs and places you visit ? A good book series about London fryups and other areas and caffs is called Egg, Bacon, Chips and Beans: 50 Great Cafes and the stuff that makes them great. A good read also Cheers.

Shame the fry up wasn't OTC but as you say you get what you pay for I guess. I'm sure you were like a kid in a candy store in Urban Rider and the Harley place so at least the day got better. 🏍😁 And what a pretty street at the end with all the beautiful blossom trees. 🌸💖

It's trial and error with a greasy spoon some are a gold mine, some are awful. You get what you pay for unfortunately. But it looked okay and yes a cup of tea with a fry up it's a must.

That's a great price for that lot in London. Bubble looked good. I've paid alot more for alot worse in Sussex.
Maybe that could be improved with just 1 sausage, but a quality one.

It’s interesting. I could watch you eat a fry up anywhere with your easy going commentary. Always balanced and fair in all you’re appraisals.
This was cheap but you like you say “you get what you pay for”. Great value but I prefer an establishment that costs a little more but you get better quality. A rough and ready breakfast is alright every now and then. I would much rather see an “off the charts” experience as opposed to an “average run of the mill one”.
It’s why I agree with your philosophy of going for “the more high end but still affordable options”.
Loved the array of helmets and bikes by the way. I used to drive a moped before I got my drivers license back in the day. Provisional license in the post and away you go. I can’t wait for the Tenerife road trip…it’s going to be a TRIP!! Always enjoy the content pal, in a parallel universe you were a television presenter. Always the right side of “good taste”(pun intended!!😂).

English mustard adds a lot of taste to sausages whether they be good or not.
Darren...next time you want to give Luke a treat, what about the Horniman at Hays and their steak and ale pie. My brother, who left us earlier this month, took me there a couple of times. Sorry your fry up wasn’t OTC. You lucky lad taking Daisy Duke from the UK to Tenerife. Hopefully you are not going through France only using the autoroutes...a bit pricey and you miss some of the best countryside. Enjoy it mate, you deserve it for doing a full time job and YT👍👏😘
I had a cafe fry up recently that looked great but wasn't tasty. I think its not hard to cook the ingredients to a point where they look good. But, (and i cant do this myself) i think better ingredients multiplied by some skilled cooking and timing makes a 100% difference.
That said, good to check out Parsons Green. Not a great deal going on there so good to see a Vlog. Cheers DJ.

Mate, you need to come to North London, we struggle to find good breakfast places despite searching around. The majority use cheap ingredients and still charge around the £15 mark once you take drinks and toast into account. I think we only know two places which do not use catering sausages but still usually find a way of messing up my eggs, I now have to insist I want the eggs
with soft yokes otherwise they present the yokes like boiled eggs. I don't understand why breakfasts quality is so poor around my area. I wish we had some places like the Regency close to home. Oh well, the search continues.

My Mum taught me to to make fried bread just fry it in the bacon fat. My Australian inlaws love it.
Very average breakfast but to be fair that was a great price for London. Loved the Harley shop, think I’ve been there years ago. My brother does a lot of touring and overland, he has eight bikes!

Darren breakfast looked OK but no free range eggs like you said butcher sausages . When i had a indoor cafe mine was the same but different i had black pudding but i couldn't go wrong with mine as i got decent sausages from a good friend of mine for catering . As if they didn't like black pudding they had a extra sausage . Also i never had a complaint as they kept coming back again and again with there friends then they brought there friends too .
Can't win them all Darren though those sausages looked bigger than macmasters usuals poodles willy's, that harley looked fire.
I know that this isn't the case in your update Darren but looking behind you at the wall when you were having your brekkie, it made me chuckle and reminded me of way back in the 70's/80's when it was the thing to have 8x4 wood panel sheets of hardboard pinned to the wall on studs. Now that was "Off The Charts" fella, if you had that look in your house or establishment then. Cheers . 😂👍
Not the best grub, but seemed OK if you wanted filling up for less than a tenner. The negative for me was that the sauce on the beans looked watery. Microwaved?

Pity you never enjoyed it DJ but still looked ok for the price you payed. If you have bubble in different parts on London do they generally taste different from North South East n West London.

The breakfast looked good, too bad it did not taste as good as it looked. I saw another video this week by Stocky Bloke at a pub (Leigh Arms) in Adlington, Cheshire. All you can eat breakfast for 6 quid !
