Unfortunately there are people out there that are simply thoughtless and have no pride in themselves regardless. When they haven't "worked for it" they don't appreciate it and act thoughtlessly, but when they DO "work for it" and/or pay for the privilege they feel entitled to behave like full grown dingdongs anyways.

Some ppl see van life as a 'until you get back on your feet' kind of thing but if you do a good job and build it exactly for yourself you do truly have 'everything you need' and all the freedom that most living in and paying for a house to live in don't have. I have free time because I don't need a pile of money coming in just to exist, in a world that has lost its mind over money this is the only sane choice for me.

I remember there was a video from summer 2020 where you had come across a miner's cabin and thought it would be cool to fix it up and maybe use it for a base. Chrome now seems to have a shop in Nanaimo, Elsa Rhae and Barron seem to have bought land (I don't follow either closely). I think buying a piece of property would tie you down...you'd probably always be wanting to operate within a day's radius of the property. Based on the increased viewership during the van build, you'd probably get lots of views if you were fixing up a cabin in the woods that you could call home base and store excess toys. So I could go either way, but I think it's one thing to get a bigger van, and another thing to start setting roots. I think I'd prefer you to stick with the nomadic lifestyle. Although I hear ya, it is becoming harder and harder to access the front ranges with all the rules and fees.

Don't mind your complaining at all. You see what most of us never see and share it. It takes a lot of work to do what you do let alone film it all. I honestly get tired watching how far you hike and then know you have to hike twice as far to back to get your camera. Love all your meals that you cook. I have followed you for a long time. Stay safe and warm.

Hello Mr. Forest. It’s disheartening to see the tribulations you deal with just trying to find parking. Your comment on the government wanting people to move into suburbs couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’m seriously considering moving into a van as despite being a skilled tradesman, I get absolutely murdered on taxes on top of home ownership and rent being well outside of my savings and investment goals. Working poor some would say :) This doesn’t get me down too much, I think I could benefit from the huge cost savings and mobility as I’m a glutton for mountain biking, hiking, skiing, hunting etc. Thanks for giving me more resolve towards my goal. Cheers!

I don’t think it’s the parking fees they are worried about. It’s more the van lifers growing in numbers that abuse it, leave trash and all the other BS. Cities weren’t built for van dwellers.they also want that property tax money that goes with home ownership.

Well, yeah, cities and towns need money. Takes a lot of money to provide the services everyone expects in a city. With all the respect in the world, and compassion for those people living in their cars that society has turned it’s back on. But this lifestyle is a bit parasitical. I assume van-lifers who have income are paying federal taxes, but they are probably not paying state and local taxes. Certainly not local except in the form of fees and sales taxes. Van-lifers are just trying to live, but so are cities and towns.

I was just doing some shopping a my local Home Hardware this morning, and complained at the entry desk that their trash out front was overflowing and left me no place to dump a full kleenex. They replied that the overnight campers keep filling the trash receptacle with all their refuse. Judging by the messy tomato sauce cans and food packaging around it, I saw their point. It’s a shame people abuse the “free” parking.

At least for the portion of people that abuse can dwelling , like staying parked for days on end, disrespecting property owners, littering.. now that kind of thing you really can’t blame someone for not being friendly to van dwellers. However , I do agree for those that are responsible and respectful I personally think people should try to be friendly to those folks.

Agree on the diesel heater. I started out with the Mr. Buddy and didn't like it much. Like you said, you have to keep windows open and stuff while using it. Plus, you definitely don't want to be running it at night while you sleep. The diesel heater has been awesome. More control over how much heat you get... no worry about fumes... and it's tons safer. It does require a little electricity. Not a big deal though, especially if you have a solar setup or something like that.
