right price is 5000$-5500$.
This is not a Ducati for people who can't afford an 800.
It's mainly aimed at riders in Europe who have an A2 license, which you need to have for 2 years before you can have the full A license. The CC and HP of the Sixty2 means that you don't need to put any restrictions on the bike, and insurance is much cheaper than the 800 with a limiter.
And with an A2, it's pretty much one of your only options if you want a stylish high end bike that's a good all-rounder.

This dude always makes me want to get a Ducati scrambler but I can never tell if it's just his riding skill. I want to do some desert offroading but I just don't know if the bike can survive that type of beating. Should I just get the Suzuki DR650?
I heard the forks work well on this version too, while the rear mono is the same Kayaba of the 800...didn't expect anything different, but by the way (and how bad) it works, you can clearly see where Ducati decided to limit the budget.
I prefer the Sixty2 swingarm too. The 800 one looks extremely solid and reliable, but also pretty bulky.

hey man, thanks for the cool review! What's your height if I may ask? Just trying to get an understanding of the proportions. I myself am 6.2 (190cm) and am thinking of a scrambler that would fit my height. If this Sixty2 would be rather small, what would you recommend?

Is this friendly for a rider with the height of 5'2?
It would behove reviewers that are experienced with bigger bikes to do these as if they were the target market and not look down on the bike. The condescending tone and talking that they are aimed at inexperienced riders really kills the review, as if saying "look, if you want you can buy your tiny bike, but I am so much better than you because I ride a 1200cc and up engine exclusively for myself". The Ducati exec himself said that they were aiming at a market of people that want a 400cc engine, not because they can't afford something bigger, or they only have an A2 license, but because they choose to buy a 400cc engine. Reasons like heating in bumper-to-bumper traffic, fuel-consumption for commuting and so on are important too. And that is why is priced almost the same as the 800cc.

Renato Vargas, exactly, I came here to say the same things. I want a 400cc Scrambler, not because I'm inexperienced, but because 800cc is just not that fun to ride when you can't unleash it to its full potential in 90%+ of riding situations. That and the insurance, gas, and purchase prices are considerably more. Though I could afford them, I think it'd be a waste. I've had and ridden all sorts of bikes and my favorite so far is my 125cc Grom. Just a little more speed, power, and style would be perfect, and this Sixty2 is exactly that.
Eight years on and these bikes in top condition and low mileage can still demand a price tag of between £4.5k to £5k depending on the dealer in the U.K., I bought one last December, I paid a premium price for it as it's a Ducati but worth every penny.

A seat height of only 151mm?
My Ducati dealer put it this way: "I want one Sixty2. I'll put it next to the 800s and say 'you can get the bigger engine for only $1000 more!'"
Same here, i wanted to test the 400 and the dealer said "Forget it, the 800 is only € 1000 Euro more, try the 800"

An amazing thing I have in Serbia gets to have a similar response at a discount of 800 even though I asked for solely 400cc
I realize I did their reasons but I think the 400 should be even cheaper in order to attract more new users of the brand Ducati.
For some, that isnt an option - in AUS, a learner has to drive a sub 650cc bike so the 800 is basically illegal for a newbie (and for good reason)
I think the basic gist is if you want this bike just buy a Benelli Leoncino, its faster, cheaper, still A2 compliant, only a fraction heavier and sounds so much better. sure the materials are cheap but that means cheap servicing if you break any of it and you can spend the extra money on upgrades beyond what you get on the stock Ducati making it an all-around better quality ride.
+motogeo how do you drive on the dirt so fast? I always fear of losing the front (with the 800cc)
is the engine used by the monster 400 of 2004, but Euro 4 = less power

This motorcycle with 12" ground clearance, 11" suspension travel 21"front and 18"rear spoke wheel would make the perfect dual sport bike in my opinion

exact thoughts. only ~$1000 less, was excepting at least $2000-3000 off compared to it's bigger brother.
Maybe, even more than the price itself, that fact that there's a too little price difference between the 400cc and the 800cc, which is also available limited to 48CV (specifically meant for A2 driver licenses) with no extra charge.
I sense that Ducati somehow noticed this, so they activated the "Ducati Bike Value" program for the Sixty 2, allowing you to pay only a certain percentage of the bike, then decide after two years if you want to change it, keep it or give it back
I agree it's overpriced. Ducati make premium aspirational motorcycles and probably don't want to price it too low as they think it will devalue their brand.

Insurance is much cheaper than the 800.
Where’s the dirt road?
Would you pick this or a Moto Guzzi V7 II ?? My main complaint with all Ducati's (except this one as I haven't ridden it) it the throttle at close to barely open, for example in traffic, is very on/off which makes for an unpleasant ride, thus why I sold my Hypermotard SP and won't buy any other other Ducatis I've test ridden.
I think the Moto Guzzi Stornello you reviewed looked much better.
I keep hearing this about the Ducatis, I have two (MTS1200 and SCR800) and there is no issue with the throttle.. Anyway, I have ridden the Sixty2 and in comparison, it has the smoothest throttle of the three..
I owned the Hyper SP and rode the Scrambler 800, Multistrada, Diavel, and Hyperstrada. All of them had jerky on/off throttle when only wanting just a smidge of throttle to go around town with. I can't commute comfortably with something that isn't smooth. You're lucky your bikes don't have this issue or you're just not going slow in 1st with barely on/off throttle. I've read experienced reviewers say the same thing.
I know, I have read that a lot.. Honestly I don't know where they come from, I have never encounter a situation where I don't feel enough control on the throttle (and I'm not a hooligan at all). Maybe I'm just used to it. But as I mention, on the Sixty2 I felt the throttle a bit more lazy.. I think it can make a terrific first bike.
Seat height 151mm? So about 6 inches off the ground??
Yeah, that's a mistake, looks like :) 150mm is the rear suspension travel I believe. Seat height should be around 780mm.

50 ft/lb of torque on a 400? That can't be right. The 803 has that.

The 10k interval is a $200 service, same as most bikes.
That's not accurate. Ask a dealer, the air cooled 700 series motor needs belt replacement every 10,000 km.....that is not 200$....try at least 800, plus regular service costs.
Per the owners manual, the belt change interval is 24000 km. "Ask a dealer." I think I see your problem right there.
Can get 2 duke390 or two z400 right now. Or one of each for the price of a shity2

How is the service intervals? A beginner is not only new at riding but also at motorcycle maintenance. The original scrambler is really not that bad for beginners itself as it has only 75 hp but the service will cost more than pretty much every beginner bike. Also this is over priced. Sorry to say but this appears highly biased.

Fantic cabellero 500 scrambler is the better buy.
this bike is a big no, for me, the Benelli Leoncino looks much better has better torque, power, and the torque comes much earlier, and i'm sure it's going to cost much less than this Ducati

Price is the problem. I mean It costs same as Yamaha XSR700 and that is pretty damn good bike. If I just had exact amount of money to buy Sixty2 I would work my ass of to get another 1000 and get a proper Scrambler! Agreed?
Hell no that's not a lot of bike for the money, lol. That's ridiculously overpriced. How did they price that? For 1k more you can get 2x the bike with literally NO draw-backs. Not even preference, it's literally same bike with 2x the power. Why this would sell in areas that don't have tiered licenses is beyond me.
