Thank you so much. People like you make life in the 21 century so much easier even with a 1 min video. One min I don’t know what to do the next min I know exactly what to do. The internet is amazing.
Awesome response....you dispensed with all the, "BEFORE I ANSWER, PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE..." junk so I didn't fall asleep before getting to the juicy stuff 5 hours later! VERY GOOD, THANK YOU!!!
Hi, I tried the same and faced the same problem of delay. After reducing the volume of the output port, I could make it quite acceptable, though not 100%, at least quite to the extent of satisfaction level.
Hooray for UA-cam! I'm trying out an M-Audio digitizer, picking up a lot of noise somehow. Hearing what Audacity is hearing while I fiddle with cables and knobs will make finding the problem quick and easy.
Dude. Do you read the replies? The problem is play through latency- I e. LAG You can't get rid of it without using an external mic with it's own headphone output. I've just ordered Samson Go. We'll see if it works. The lag makes monitoring your own voice useless. You can't speak normally. Better to disable play through if just using Audacity without external mic.
Thank you for this video. I did what you suggest and I do hear my voice, yet there is a delay of about 1/2 a second between when I speak and what I hear. May I ask how to deal with that?
@@seanflynn146 That is a headphone jack on the mic itself, right? That's not what I'm talking about. I'm saying that as long as you're using Windows' standard audio output, it is delayed. I haven't seen a fix for that. (Would love to hear if you have any fix for it though.)
@@Vousie Ok, I don't know who you are, but I am being 1000000% when I say this, I have been having issues with my mic all evening, and your comment saved the day. After watching a ton of videos a random comment by a stranger saved the day. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!
Well the delay made it unusable for my purpose ( voice acting) hard to act when your voice is half a second late. My fix will be to get a new usb microphone that has a headphone jack right on the mic itself. If i am correct i will be hearing myself before it goes through to Audacity, and i will diable the playthrough function there. Basically hearing my voice just as it is being digitised, and not AFTER it has been recorded to audacity.
fix delay under device in preferences. change the second number that is negative to a negative 300 (actually, the exact magnitude of that number depends on you and your device.).
Thanks for showing me how to hear myself thru Audacity but, can I also load in a background track and record while playing that track and hearing myself at the same rime?
Used this to turn this OFF as it downloaded with this feature ON. Been incredibly difficult and frustrating to record while hearing my voice slightly delayed!!!!!!!!
Pls help me fix my prob, I dont know how to record my voice & everytime I press the record button it always start at the end of the song. Is it because I'm only using headphone not microphone?
add a new track. then select where you want to start recording again and then click record. if you wanted to do a transition from another part on verse or whatever make a new audio track and select the recording spot alittle before wherever you wanna record from. hopefully that helps lol
This method you've outlined in your video does not work on the latest 3.3.0 versions of Audacity. The Buttons you've described are not the same or no longer appear. If I'm missing something I'm all ears but even the recent chat forums say that Audacity cannot record a Zoom meeting (for instance) and also record any questions you discuss from your computer speakers. Your voice will not be heard speaking on playback. There are workarounds they talk about using mixers etc but that's beyond my paygrade.
I downloaded on my Mac but the same options don’t come up. Instead of go to Edit for preferences, I had to click Audacity tab for preferences. Under Recording, the only options are 1) hear other tracks while recording (overdub) 2) Audible input monitoring 3 ) record on new track 4) detect dropouts. It’s the reason it’s different because this is version 3.4.1? Maybe they don't have the option anymore?
Yep frustrating...It's latency...gett'n back to playing again...go to edit-preferences-recording..there is Latency correction..Im at -185 and still playing with it...Let me know if you have better idea? Hope this helps..
Thank you!! I did that (yes there is a serious lag on the audio) but now I can't for some reason get any sound from the .wav im recording on... UUURGHHHHHH

I get more confused when I finally heard myself. It's delayed. Is it possible to be as close as real time?
Hi, I tried the same and faced the same problem of delay. After reducing the volume of the output port, I could make it quite acceptable, though not 100%, at least quite to the extent of satisfaction level.
Well you either need an Audio Interface or, a sound card for that...
i love this quick not even a minute tutorial thanks man
Super Helpful and to the point! Thank you for making this painless! Cheers!
Thanks so much. Having a monitor changes everything!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've been overdubbing with one ear out of my headphones for a year now. It is great to have this issue fixed.

Same here, no answers yet. I messed with latency and nothing happens
Yes of course that you helped me ! Thanks alot
thank you very fast and to the point.
Is there a way to hear input even when *not* recording?
There's an option in windows' own settings too. But in both cases, the audio is slightly delayed - this makes it entirely unsuitable for music.
It depends on your gear, like if you use the samsung g track pro there's a head phone jack that plays back in real time or certain plug ins can help
