One of the best and most underrated bands ever! Very proud when frontman Dave Faukner presented my daughter with an award for her hit rock single. She had spent her whole life with the Hoodoos as the soundtrack!
bloody LOVE the Gurus! a huge fave when i was in my late teens and still now,all these years later.Bloody brilliant! lov e the music and their retro '60s style clothes and look :)
I saw these guys at CBGB's in New York in 1984 and was blown away. It was probably the best, most intense show I've ever seen Except maybe for Janis Joplin in July of 1970. Hoodoo Gurus are like X from LA; deserving of huge success, but not quite lucky enough to beat out the likes of Boy George, etc
They actually had great success around the world - just not top 40 success. In Australia, they are one of the godfather bands of the scene, still rocking after all those years.
Wow, you're easily pleased. Try Radio Birdman before you talk about these guys. Its Birdman first HG a loonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng way second.
You say tomato and, as a lover of good pop, I say Hoodoo Guru. I found RB almost unwatchable. Such a boys band, I never felt welcome at their gigs as a girl. Not upfront at least, in the mosh. And did they have a sense of humour? If they did I missed it.... unlike the Hoodoos who were up for a laugh and welcomed all.
I was lucky enough to see the Hoodoos play their first ever gig.... (that's what I was told) atop the Sydney Museum back in the very early 80's. A friend pulled together a support band for the night and called it The Dreamy Genies.
Such good memories I have of driving around in Middle America blasting great bands like this. Wonder if the fuel under my foot was gas, or music and youth. : )
Brings back memories of my senior year in school every lunch time we would pile into a friend's car put on some gurus music and just drive,,,, anywhere....
If you could wear out grooves in a CD, i would have done so with my collection of Gurus' stuff. I listened to these guys a ton in the 80's and into the 90's and still. Never saw a video of theirs till tonight, so this is a blast!
I always thought it was an homage to the Painters And Dockers. "You're going home in the back of a divvy van!' thump thump thump-thump-thump, thump-thump-thump-thump!!
The Gurus were awesome...I can smell my dorm room again! Wahi' i met these guys in detroit on the blow your cool tour. nicest guys i ever met. HOODOOOOOOS>
15 yrs ago, this was our wedding waltz. It really shocked all of the Scotts assembled! i met these guys in detroit on the blow your cool tour. nicest guys i ever met. HOODOOOOOOS>
Saw them with the Ramones as an opening act (which was weird to me). Felt the bill was off, but they oddly complimented each other. I was a Ramones fan first, but this was a weird venue for the Ramones in a small club with Hoodoo Gurus headlining.
THIS is one of many fantastic songs by the HOODOO GURUS....MY OTHER FAVORITES ARE: I Want you back, Dig IT Up, Zanzibar, Bittersweet, Come Anytime, Shadow Me, What's My Scene, TOJO , Death Defying, Arthur and My Girl AND LEILANI
sure was. Peggy Sue is a good example of one of his songs influencing the beach/surf beat...and the Hoodoo Gurus. Our friend needs to broaden his horizons. I love the Clash too, by the way.
Another "gated drum sound" casualty... killed by producers. Kinda like what happened to Husker-Du. You have to imagine it with the snare crack you'd hear live instead of the mush that came from that recording technique. The song brings me joy... but the sound makes me sad.
... I have more suitable lyrics for this song: Should I stay or should I go? So you got to let me know I'll be here 'til the end of time If you say that you are mine Should I stay or should I go? Darlin' you got to let me know ...
Ummm similar style but they don't sound the same at all. You know how waltzes have the same count ?? A polka ?? The Blues ?? This is a style of music...the riff is not the same even if your untrained ear thinks so.
One of the best and most underrated bands ever! Very proud when frontman Dave Faukner presented my daughter with an award for her hit rock single. She had spent her whole life with the Hoodoos as the soundtrack!
As an Australian, what was her single?
Buster Hyman .. Gregs Discount Chemist. Best single, best rock song 2018, song of the year 2019 ,West Aust. Music awards.
Right on Sue!
I hope you dont get a loud notification, forgot to consider time difference. I'm in Canada...
Mars Needs Guitars was one of my earlier cassette purchases in high school, circa 1988, and I still listen to it more than 30 years later. Great song!
Dang that's one durable tape!
Gosh they were original and GREAT. Miss those pub rock days.
The drum intro is pure Ramones.
Saw these guys at the Ritz in NY in '87. Damn good show.

15 yrs ago, this was our wedding waltz. It really shocked all of the Scotts assembled!
+Gerry Kregor HAHA BRILL...........1st dance for me was the damned.....the limit club
that's funny; as i was listening, i was picturing this as a wedding song! 👰
Gerry Kregor Scotts, as in a family, or Scots as in Scottish people?
... I'm shocked. Not even there:)
Och aye

I'm sure they had a fair bit of success in their native Australia. The music world doesn't ENTIRELY revolve around america...
They actually had great success around the world - just not top 40 success. In Australia, they are one of the godfather bands of the scene, still rocking after all those years.

and The Saints--old school punk!

I listen to this song, and 20 years fade away......
I'd almost forgotten about this band until The Clarks covered this song and their "Rewind" album. The Gurus are freaking great.
KJET the right side of the dial-Turn me onto music like this
Such good memories I have of driving around in Middle America blasting great bands like this. Wonder if the fuel under my foot was gas, or music and youth. : )
I hope The Hoodoo Gurus are still around - killer/rockin’ band 🤘
Brings back memories of my senior year in school every lunch time we would pile into a friend's car put on some gurus music and just drive,,,, anywhere....
Perfect retro 60's pop tune & vid from the 80's. It still cuts it, Like wow.
I absolutely love this one.. oh wow, it’s so funky. I dig it !!!!’
2022 and it's as fresh as when I first heard it many moons ago 🌻
Very cool song..very cool band..love it !!
Saw their first ever performance.... and weirdly.... ate breakfast (yum cha) with these guys once. They were great live.
classic tune..!! blacktown r.s.l...sydney 1986..happy daze!!..still got some gurus glee fan club signatures from 1983!!
Love this tune.
If you could wear out grooves in a CD, i would have done so with my collection of Gurus' stuff. I listened to these guys a ton in the 80's and into the 90's and still. Never saw a video of theirs till tonight, so this is a blast!
Dido, THANK YOU
WE DID IT, ZOE R U PROUD OF US?
I AM IN AWE ... WE ALL ARE, LIKE, WOWEE ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Saw them in Omaha in late 80s; loudest concert I ever attended. Even louder than Van Halen, though it was a smaller venue.
The song in my head when I am skiing something gnarly ...
I always thought it was an homage to the Painters And Dockers. "You're going home in the back of a divvy van!' thump thump thump-thump-thump, thump-thump-thump-thump!!
Jam never gets old
Brilliant band. "Spread the word"
Awesome live band!
Great song, great aussie band

Sara Gilbert from Roseanne (Darlene) on lead vocals.
Dave Faulkner is the father of Frodo.
Rodrigo Mussak yes!!😂😂
Rodrigo Mussak ... and Dave, believe it or no, was the g'tarist for that gr8 classic Aussie band, "The LovedOnes"... true!..
"Tojo" is a much better song!
LEILANI is their best song...but this also kicks ass ...so does MY GIRL and WHATS MY SCENE and ARTHUR and TOJO and I WANT YOU BACK and DEATH DEFYING
He never made it to Darwin!
... I have more suitable lyrics for this song:
Should I stay or should I go?
So you got to let me know
I'll be here 'til the end of time
If you say that you are mine
Should I stay or should I go?
Darlin' you got to let me know
...
Worst lyrics ever. Just terrible.
... you didn't get it ...
Ummm similar style but they don't sound the same at all. You know how waltzes have the same count ?? A polka ?? The Blues ?? This is a style of music...the riff is not the same even if your untrained ear thinks so.
... my untrained ears can hear the same chords as yours but my brain can see where this lame song came from :) ...
So, you missed the bit about the style (or genre) of the song, huh ??
Dave pads up for the other team. If he came out I'd respect the guy but unless I've heard from elsewhere its a NOPE, NOTHNG, ZILCH.!
@@feluk- Dave Faulkner is gay.
