“That’s very American and it’s really cool.” Two things I’ve never heard put together by a European 😂 I’m loving the comparisons and talking about things you don’t do outside the US.
Ahh you meant Veronica from the saddle club, the snooty tooty one 😂 And I could spend an entire day in that tack shop! Don't have many that size here in the UK
Matt you and Harriet are such a blast to watch shop.. love that you brought European eyes to view the omg boldness of American horse fashion.. you need to take Harriet on every shopping video.. add Jesse and Steve and you'd probably be asked to leave the store 🤣🤣🤣🤣
HILARIOUS comment!!! Kudos to you for allowing Me to start my day with a hearty, belly jiggling, loud laughter!!!! The best medicine on earth. TY Paula. Now I Will be invisioning this exact scenario in my mind much Of the day. This needs to happen on video…………
They need to come to Texas and have someone outfit them in western wear and show them some of the trails we have here. I think it would be quite the experience!
Matt you are so young lol. I'm probably twice your age and when I was younger they didn't make boots with zippers normally. They were all pull-on (hence the boot-pulls). We used to wear nylons, not socks, as thin as could be and put powder in our boots to get them on. You would definitely need someone's help to get them off lol. Only custom boots were made with zippers, and only well-off kids could afford them, not your average kid.
Ah, the bad old days! And you had to have help to get the boots off at the end of a hot summer day of showing because your legs swelled and they were stuck. I remember one show where I ended up on the barn aisle floor with two friends pulling on my boot, and they almost fell over when it finally came off.
@@jennifergudmundson2277 no, the powder usually went from ankle to knee to help the boot slide on. I took to spraying my legs with Show Sheen-that silicon spray was slicker than talcum powder. Thank heaven I don’t show any more-now I just wear paddock boots with half chaps! So comfy!
I lived in Libertyville, Illinois as an 11-13 year old. I believe the first Dover shop was there. They also had a showing complex on the property. I loved going into the store just to breath in the leather smell and only lived about 3 blocks away. I worked in a local riding stable to ride. It was the start of a lifelong horse obsession. This shop is about 10 times the size of the original!
I never thought of Dover as luxurious. Maybe they have added items, but I believe they started with cheaper items that they shipped to places that didn't have nice tack shops. Why don't you show the saddles?
@@TheNonMakeupGuru wtf does that mean? I didn't say he should buy them. If you are showing a tack shop, saddles are a very important part of that. I love sitting on the saddles in a tack shop. I also am very particular I have a custom Schleese but that doesn't mean I don't like looking and sitting on them. (Head shake)
When I was riding and having horses Dover was the discount catalog.. I lived in a pretty upscale town and their tack shop was pricey and very luxurious.. Matt come to Barrington IL to really see that kinda stuff
Love your videos - thank you for all of the hard work you put into them!! Just my experience with thinner bits - my horse has a very low, meaty palate and a thick tongue. I had used a regular snaffle on him and he was NOT comfortable - throwing his head and constantly working his mouth even when no pressure was applied. After visits from both my vet and an equine dentist, we determined that my boy would be more comfortable with thinner snaffle since there is no room in his mouth for a thick one. He also has a flexible roller in the middle rather than a joint so that nothing is hitting the top of his mouth. He is much more comfortable with a thinner bit. That said, a thinner bit with heavy/hard hands is awful and some bit designs are horrific!!
Had the exact same with my boy. He's a typical cob, and has been going so much better in a thinner/lighter bit than his old one. He was in a single joint gag bit, and hated it. Now I have him with a full cheek with a lozenge and he's so much happier. No more head throwing.
I don’t have a Dover catalog handy, but I think you can make a catalog purchase and get the the brass engraved plate on bridles, saddles and halters. They may even personalize blankets, and tack covers.
I can’t tell which surprises me more: My brother jump scaring me in the hall at 12:00 am, or the random SquareSpace ads. 😂 Lol, I love the video Matt! ❤
Boot hooks! When I started riding you couldn't get boots with a zipper (could be because I was poor) you needed boot hooks! It's wild that they're the rotary phone of the horse world. :)
Hey Matt, not sure if you can do it during this trip but I think it would be amazing to see how some of the high end saddle makers in the US make their saddles. I am going to list a few brands but feel free to look for more too! (Blue Ribbon and Harris -> Western performance/pleasure saddles) For english saddles it would be really cool to see Voltaire saddles being made (QH people at the world shows are going crazy over them). OR boots and helmets? I think that being educated about the work that goes into our equipment is important.
I've never been out of the USA, just to Mexico once, I love hearing the different names of things and styles from here than from other countries. Thank you, loved it ❤
American rider here, new to your channel and I’m loving your tack store videos. Got me thinking it would be cool to start some kind of exchange type thing and trade tack and stuff across the pond. Shipping would be horrendous but seemed like a cool idea.
Oh Matt you have to come to the Land rover 3 day event in KY at the horse park. There is a lady there who makes engraved halters!! Lots of American equestrian items lol. :)
I've never been to the Dover in Wellington, but I do love the one in New Hampshire - not so much because it's high end in some way, but just because they have EVERYTHING. (I think European stuff is actually nicer and more "luxurious" overall.) But yeah - American riding/horse wear really is getting LOUD! People used to blame the Eventers for this trend, but now it's basically everybody.
Omg i had those hooks to pill my boots on when i was a kid, and i used Mane and tail shampoo both for the horse and myself. Grew up in the states but now live in Europe. Have seen the mane and tail shampoo sold so expensive here, for humans tho.
Haha, the "not so nice one" in "The Saddle Club" is Veronica... and the funny thing, I do have one of those bows :P And my name is Veronica. I'm not mean though haha.
I remember when you stacked the saddle cloths on top of each other. There were piles everywhere. Please let us know how you liked the products. Thanks for taking us shopping.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but i know it’s going to be amazing. I love you and your passion and love you have for your horses. Im thankful for you and the genuine joy you give me and so many others. You made me smile in the hardest patches in my life. You got me through so much. Thank you, I love and appreciate everything you do and what you did for me. Keep doing what you’re doing. Proud of you Matt❤️
I had questions before this video and the previous videos, and now I am comfortable with my first instincts. Being in the rural Southern US, western tack and clothing and riding were the common appearance (and tacky) but I was put off by that. I’m no “cowboy” and I hate pointy boots and cowboy hats but I loved horses. I believe I would have been a comfortable fit if I had been raised in Europe. Now at 59, it’s too late for me.
Zippers are new and a godsend, the muti-pattern long sleeve shirt is ugly and no one I know would wear it. Looks like you had fun and hopefully learned a lot about us US riders. Not a bad spend and the brown was nice.
Dover use to be Miller's. Have shopped there for years. I go crazy shopping for the English tack & hunt clothes. My horses are well dressed, blankets, halters, wraps, etc.
Dover is a big chain, but it's ABSOLUTELY NOT HIGH END LMAO it's usually super cheap crap imo. Tackeria where you were before is way more high end, as is everything in Wellington in general. It's not normal US stuff.
Love your videos, fun to see another horse guy out there! The halter of your dreams is Quillins from Paris Kentucky. The nicest nameplates ever and the Halters are second to none!
Sooooo.. I will say I live in Maine, US.. which to you is most likely Canada! Haha. Yes we do have a decent dressage culture here surprisingly! But, Dover has taken over what used to be State Line Tack. It was great for awhile.. but in most recent years Dover has turned very Hunter Jumper and is certainly not my favorite go to but also is my closest “big” tack shop. I prefer to just order online unless I am traveling.
Also our tack shops tend to be regional and breed oriented so if you showed stock breeds you might shop at Rod's, Dover or Stateline for hunters, etc. You will find a wide variety of different items in each of these shops.
