    Hey guys,
    A little while ago we had a fun day filming for HorseWorldTV. We wanted to know more about Vaulting and this was the best place for us to go to. We are definitely not as supple and elegant as them but we tried ;). It was super impressive to see their dedication and talent and also the love they have for the horse.

      Thank you for this video. I liked to start my children riders in vaulting to compliment the jumping lessons. It builds a higher level of confidence & strength...yes it can be very challenging 😊 especially for adults.
      Such a lovely horse.
      Most unflexible...but you two redeemed yourselves with the squats. Excellent squats. 😂
      I see you two getting a mechanical horse in the future

      Can I ask you if the horses have a lot of back issues in this sport? I'm just wondering

    • @isa.cecilia
      @isa.cecilia 7 місяців тому +26

      @@norabrulandingebrigtsen9755I’m a vaulter so thought I could chip in. Generally, no they do not. A vaulting horse needs to be very active and have a big variety in their training/what they do. They need to be kind of all round being ridden correctly in both dressage, jumping, some trail riding and possibly other things as well. They need an all round training to keep healthy while doing vaulting as well. We also take a lot of time to build them from the ground up when it comes to vaulting as it’s so different from what they’re used to do before/from what we usually ask of the horse. It takes time to build a happy sustainable vaulting horse. Everything between six months to three years. This is why it’s very rare that they get back issues from vaulting itself, they mostly either already had it or acquired it some other way. But we do need to be careful with how we position our feet, how we land in jumps, where our weight goes and weight distribution on the parts of our body that comes in contact with the horse. And sometimes some horses won’t accept certain elements/movements - and we as vaulters need to respect that as well. Hope this answered your question❤️

      @thestrallove 6 місяців тому +10

      @@norabrulandingebrigtsen9755 what @isa.cecilia said!! vaulting often gets a reputation as a sport that’s “bad” for the horse which is pretty unfair and mostly stems from ignorance and misinformation, so i’m happy you asked! i think another important point is that in vaulting, the weight of the vaulter(s) is more distributed on the horse whereas with normal horse riding, the person is always in one place, so actually vaulting is quite good in that sense. and during training, we also switch the side after every round (so 10-15mins) so the horse isn’t always going on the same side and all muscles are trained, it’s just during competitions where they’re only lunged on the left side, which is a common misconception

    I love how you say "it's harder than it looks" - because it looks *pretty damn impossible hard* already, lol. Amazing athleticism and training of the human-horse team, and the bond they all have. That part alone is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this.

    It was cool to see Jesse acknowledge the horse both when he got on with a stroke of the mane to say hi my friend and when he got off with a pat on the neck as if to say thank you for letting me do that. I bet with some practice to gain confidence he could do this no problem.

    A relative of mine offers vaulting lessons at her barn in South Carolina. When i was down there over 10 years ago, her vaulting horse was a 18 hand Belgian draft horse. She had me participate in a lesson with a couple of her kids on lesson day and from what I remember, it was kinda fun. I wish I still had that type of fearlessness now but my body has long since abandoned that type of mindset.

    I love vaulting. Did it myself as child and teenager and still miss it till this day. It's actually the only international horse sport that I follow with passion. It's just stunning what all those vaulters are able to express on the horseback and how they really show their love towards their horsey-partner even in the international competitions. I will always remember the french world champion Lambert Leclezio who ran straight to his horse after landing to shower him in kisses and hugs before leaving the competition circle. Beautiful pictures that I wish would be more common in the international horse sport alltogether.

    Ahhhh … to be young and flexible again! You were both very brave … it makes one realize even though one may think they’re in shape for what one normally does … one finds out just how much one is still very much out of shape in many respects, when trying new activities.
    Strong core muscles are so necessary when riding … which I will admit I lack! I doubt I would have even been able to get up on the barrel itself, let alone what you two were able to accomplish!
    That was very interesting. Thanks for letting us tag along! 🐎🐴

    Before I was allowed to start "proper" riding lessons, it was mandatory in my riding school to do at least 10 units of vaulting. This worked wonders, got you fit and worked wonders for your ground seat. I did not like that at all, but it gave you an excellent headstart.

    Astonishing. Absolutely astonishing. I've never seen this sort of interaction between human and horse. Sam and Elise are remarkable athletes and for two guys who were trying the barrel exercises for the first time...pretty darned impressive. The, attempting on horseback, Bravo! Jesse looked so tall compared with the two young vaulters; compared with Matt who normally towers over him and makes him look so slight. I cannot believe how much I've been enjoying your videos...can you say addicted?

Really liked when the vaulters just sat on the cantering horse and how quiet they sat. Would like to have seen more of that .I too, especially liked the stretching part. In your FORTIES?! WOW! Were you a gymnast in your youth? I can't see anyone just starting up in their forties, or even in their twenties! Because flexibility and reaction time start deteriorating already in the late teens if not maintained by practise. And by the 30s they deteriorate even when people DO practise in the attempt to ward off the loss of skill.
      I'm just asking out of curiosity, not criticism. I'm a woman in my 60s now, so I know that any woman in her forties who can even do a little bit should be so proud! Good for you!

    This was fun to watch! I did some basic vaulting as a kid and teenager at the Summer Camp I went to every year for two months. We had a practice barrel, but not a fancy moving one! 😂 it was just a padded barrel with the surcingle handles to learn how to mount and to practice the exercises on before doing them on the horse. We always had a large draft horse as a vaulting horse, and we were supposed to mount from the trot (it seems that it would be a LOT easier to do at the canter, as that is a more naturally swinging gait). I never did master vaulting on to the horse without assistance. But once I was up, I was able to do the free sit, the flag, the around the world (I forget what you called it in the video, but it’s where you turn yourself 360 degrees around the horse and end up facing forward again), all at the trot. I was also good at a move they called the “candlestick”; basically, you scoot your butt up to the handles on the surcingles and lie down on the horses back with your legs pointed straight up into the air. Your hands remained on the handles, but it felt very strange to be lying down on a trotting horse while keeping my legs perfectly straight and still while pointing up at a 90 degree angle from my body! I was never brave enough to attempt standing while the horse was moving, and we never learned how to do headstands or handstands at all, nor any flips off of the horse (which I have seen in competition, and been amazed by!). We also never did anything with two people on at the same time. It was very basic vaulting, but it was a lot of fun. I wish I had been able to continue doing it the rest of the year, but never heard of any vaulting training facilities. So the other ten months of the year I just rode hunter/jumpers. It would be fun to try some basic stuff again, but at 46 I would not want to do anything TOO crazy…. I don’t bounce like I used to! 😂 You guys did very well for the first time, and were both braver about standing up on a moving horse than I ever was! Good job!

    What a fantastic video! You guys are so wonderful. I love how you are both so considerate of the horse even while doing something that seems scary.

    I didn't even know horse vaulting was a "thing". Very cool you both tried and did it!

    Great job, boys! Your courage was rewarded. I need to work on my hamstrings and back flexibility, too! You’ve given me plenty of motivation. Thank you. 😉

    I am really impressed. You did so well, maybe because of your wonderful coaches. But - what about the horse? It would have been lovely to get a bit of an introduction to him as well.
