Notice how all these rules are to *prevent* you from accidentally shooting the gun
(unloaded, safety on, finger off trigger, gun-in-holster-for-carry,... etc)
But there is only one rule that is designed *in case all else fails* - an that's to not point your gun at stuff you don't want to destroy.
    Good to remember...

Ive been a gun guy since I was 18, Im 30 now. Friday morning bright and early I had my first ND in my bedroom. Luckily since I always point the muzzle in the safest direction all I did was shoot my favorite tshirt on top of my dresser and then put a hole in the exterior wall. The day before I was having stovepipe malfunctions with my .22 Stoeger Luger. So the next morning I was checking it out. I put a mag in it and was cycling rounds to try and see what was wrong, I figured out the extractor was slipping off of the rim early sometimes.
I decided I was going to clean it again to see if it would help, I dropped the mag and pulled on the toggle (Luger style don't have a slide) I saw the round pull fully out of the chamber, out of habit of taking down Glocks I pointed it at the wall and pulled the trigger...
BAANG!. ..SPROOOONG (weird indoor echo affect)
First of all, I shouldve made sure the round came out, it just shoved it right back in the chamber. 🤦
Secondly Its not a Glock, why the hell did I pull the trigger.
I'm gonna blame it on messing with guns before coffee.
      I learned my lesson.

I was in sportsman’s grabbing some 410 & 308 yesterday and there were two young ladies at the gun counter wanting to buy a gun. They asked for a shotgun and were shocked when the salesman handed them a shotgun. They said “ we meant a little one”. The guy looked puzzled. Then they pointed at a hand gun to which he replied “you mean a handgun?” They both said in unison “yaaaaaa”. They definitely bought a hand gun that day. Even though i love young folk like myself buying guns and spreading the 2nd amendment gospel, people really need to make sure they learn gun safety and how to shoot before buying. Like actually learn to shoot and handle firearms. I used to sell guns for a retailer and management would always say “ you make the final call”. If the person was unlearned then id sit there for hours showing them how to safely handle it(my retailer didn’t offer safety classes so it was up to me). There were folks that I couldn’t in good faith sell to and i would seldom say no, but rather deter them and have them come back when they felt ready(99% came back, and almost all of them were well prepared!) Please if you don’t know how to handle a firearm , learn! They’re fun and you’ll be so much less anxious around them and impress others and most importantly help others with you knowledge! Happy shootin!

You can ask at a sporting goods store when they restock, if able, you can be there as soon as they open to beat the masses. Ok, I don't know much about them. I heard they used to make single-barrel rifles and shotguns. I think they are owned by Remington now.
Now that I think about it, if you could get some Turkey loads for the 20 gauge in 4 or 5 shot (size of pellet, smaller the number, bigger the size of the ball). Make sure you check the barrel to see what the chamber is for example 2½, 2¾, or 3 in (it will be stamped on the barrel) , if you can find them in 3 inch (considering your shotgun is chambered in 3 inch) they will have more knockdown power than birdshot (6,7,8,or 9 shot). It's going to kick a little harder than a game, target, or field load will bc it has more powder (gunpowder) hence the taller metal part of the shell.
If you know anyone who shoots or can take a shooting class to help you learn to shoot, it would be helpful. Once you know how, they're a pretty fun little gun to shoot.

Most shotguns are not drop safe don't keep a hot round in the chamber of a shotgun when you put it away. It's fine to keep some in the tube just never chamber one and lean it up against a wall if it falls It could go off even on safe. safe stops trigger getting pulled!!

jay bosher one friend I knew I highschool was showing off a pistol he bought illegally when he was 16 to a bunch of his friends in a car in a parking garage, didn't realize it had one in the chamber amid the excitement of having a new gun bought from a drug dealer who didn't mention anything about gun safety and blew his head apart and all over the other kids in the car because he fumbled it while pointing it at himself and pulled the trigger accidentally.
It was a damn tragedy no doubt, but he learned that lesson in gun safety the hard way (as did the others in the car) and payed the ultimate price unfortunately. That event made me even more adamant about proper gun safety, and I hate to use him as an example but it's definitely a reality that can happen to anyone who even slightly neglects firearm safety. I only mention it now because it relates to what was said about showing off being a large cause of NDs.

For all you knew gun owners out there I can't stress the importance of taking " hunter safety ". Hunter Safety is a fantastic safety course and has nothing to do with hunting! The beauty of it is that it's $10.00. Don't be afraid there are people there that know less than you do about firearms in general. Even if you don't like guns I commend you for taking the hunter safety course. It gives you firsthand knowledge and not some regurgitated horseshit misinformation or unintentional misinformation. I have taken hunter safety twice over the past several years. No I did not fail the first time. I think it's impossible to fail but if you do don't be discouraged. I took it again to be up-to-date on the latest information. As always be safe out there and know that knowledge is power.
