I thought everything looked pretty good once it was placed on the bookshelf. It made the figure really pop out instead of having just the white background from the shelf.
Yeah, it could have been improved on with the shading, but the overall effect did it's job.
The pricing for the quality is probably the most alarming part. If it was $25-$30 less then it might have been more palletable 😅😅😅
I fell like this style would look best on a shelf squeezed between some manga. I was considering getting her but yeah that price was too high 😂 curious to see how you display her

I think the base is a cool idea, but that price is crazy, especially since a big part of it is a flat backdrop. 😅 I got the Vsinger Luo Tianyi by GSC for like $120 USD and I think that not only looked better, but was a better way to do a 3D base.
This really ain't it chief... eStream needs to reevaluate their take on figures before the entire consumer base decides to skip their products... 🤣

eStream/SS totally missed the mark on this one. You paid so much more just for train-kun. Hardly any shading and weathering were done on those leaves and rocks. The Mai figure itself seems so-so. I have Taito prize figures of her that seem to look better. 😅

Zooming in on that huge background piece definitely puts it all in perspective. It's a neat idea but without the detailing it comes off as looking fairly cheap and toy like. At least Mai herself looks pretty good.

I agree with you that the extras should elevate or compliment the figure. I saw the greenery in the video and was like nope. It made me think of toys my baby nephew has. I would say it's worth it to get a better looking figure as there are better ones out there than this one. I feel like the figure in this case was mid and the lack of detail in the backdrop just lowered it even more.

In all seriousness, I think that's just their target audience.. the "it looks good from a distance" crowd that just wants a diorama of their waifu. Or alpha satellite is fleecing them.. someone along the way is definitely padding their pockets.
Either way the end result is definitely quantity & effect over quality and detail, which is just kinda unfortunate.

For me, still the best Mai figure in terms of capturing her playfulness and her overall aesthetic. Completely agree that the close up of the backdrop definitely highlights some significant flaws in regards to lack of detail to attention, but from a distance alongside the other figures on the shelves, my eyes are still instantly drawn to this one!
Overall, the feel and the ambience of this figure, hopefully alongside the Shoko e-stream one coming out, always give me the heart warming feeling from the series and that kind of make up for the flaws of the final figure ^.^
Luckily, my fingers remain intact... 🤣🤣🤣 Highly considering repainting her to my taste 🤔
oh god, the lack of shading on that jacket is so obvious even when not zoomed in. what a disservice to those who bought her. eStream is such a hit or miss now.
im so glad i skipped her despite being a mai collector. with season 2 in the works, i assume more figure ideas will pop out in the future.

I totally agree with you - not too keen with the school mural backdrop with this. I prefer the eStream bases which can be enjoyed from all angles eg the neon Rem/Ram ones (have you preordered these?).

I actually think it looks good once it was all assembled. I think this style of figure is meant to be viewed more from a distance.

You can try using Gundam Real Touch markers to subtlety add some shading to her coat. Would be easier than going back to paint it with an airbrush, especially with the crevices and her hair getting in the way.

@@DTTCReviews Yea np! I've used them a bit for some of my figures and they turn out great! Just recommended being careful and only wiping away excess with a qtip instead of the normal thinner as you would Gunpla. Since it may lift the paint of the figure off. Or can top coat it before and after as well.

I think she looks nice as a stand alone figure and I wish that they would of sold her separately so she would be a bit more affordable. Also did you see that Canada is getting ems and I believe surface mail back? Kinda weird that it took that long for it to come back

I have the Taito Coreful Mai Sakurajima figure I won from the arcade. She's got the same outfit as the estreams version but the taito one doesn't take up a lot of space.
That might have been the better option for apace and the wallet... 🤣
Yeah this is my first Estream figure and while I think it's fine, I didn't fall in love with it. I will say the train thing is a common thing in the series, as both Mai and Sakuta's last names are the same as train stations (that's even how they introduce themselves to each other) so I think it's a little nod to that and not completely random. I think it would have been nice for little extra things, like if the light could turn on (might be annoying though but it wouldn't have to be bright). It's not terrible, just mid. I also super agree that it feels like a toy!
I'm a little restricted as I don't buy figures where they wear non canon figures and I think Mai's best look is in the school uniform with the bunny ears. So this does fill my needs. Someone mentioned Spiritale who could be my favourite manufacturer (I bought their Korone) and am super excited for their Emilia as well but unfortunately their Mai is off the table for me.
Haha good lore find there, completely forgot they had ties to trains... 🤣 She's a prime candidate for a little repaint for a touch of realism for sure! I'm excited to see how the Spiritale Mai will turn out, I have her on order so I'll report with my findings later! 🤓🤓🤓
I ended up cancelling my order when I saw the lack of shading on the jacket 😭 very disappointing to see on such a pricey figure. Would love to see a re-release of the kotobukiya version tho! Missed out the first time

I think this is really good in the book shelf next to your manga collection of this series. I think this kind of figure/statue with background limits your creativity a little bit.

Oh wow, I thought at least the lights would turn on for that price. This definitely feels like price gouging when you consider some figures like Genshin Impact's Ningguang figure has a cheaper price, have better details, have more accessories, and has a working light up feature.

The price and the background stopped me from preordering it. Sadly you proved that is the case. eStream has always been expensive but at least the Crystal dress Rems are very pretty. Oh and figures getting expensive. FREEing bunnies have gone crazy. They all start at 36,000 yen. I feel so poor these days 🤣

I have 5 eStream figures, and ohh boy this doesn't look like one from them. Yes, they have had quality control issues in the past, but overall they usually give a premium experience. I'm scare for the quality of my preorders lol

To be honest I really dislike SSF.
However, I just recently preordered their Chainsaw Man Denji and Madoka to see whether they can finally make something good to please me with such a high price.
Oooh, in person? I'd love to see one of these events in person one day! 🤣 Most of their figures are missing something or lacking quality but they make Rem figures so I always have my eye out! 😵
@@DTTCReviews I am also a keen Rem collector cuz Rem ranks my 3rd Honmei (Best Waifu). I have 3 lifesize Remes. But the SSF Remes even didn't attract me a little. I hate them borrowing the statue special-effect concept so awkwardly into pf while not having a well-matched level for the figure, with no good concept or design.

This mai is one of the best mai available in the market. Her face is spot on. I think from the start you prefer simple/round base... idk why you're buying this mai in the first place. If you want good simple mai there's coreful uniform bunny.
*I have this figure and it's gorgeous. About the price, yes it's more on expensive side.. that's why I work more and more to increase my income. I overpaid many figures but as long as I'm happy, I'm okay with it.
As a company it's boarderline predatory to charge this amount and deliver on this level of quality. Not my first figure from this company and no, I do like and appreciate complex figures. The expensive resin statues in my collection are a testament to that... 🙃🙃🙃
I’d say the concept was ambitious in its direction, but it didn’t communicate to 3D very well.
Like you said, the background is only good in one direction for a 3-dimensional statue. It seems wasteful for something that can be (or in this case should’ve been able to be) viewed and positioned in multiple angles.
It’s decent, but hopefully not something they make a habit of.
There's only one other figure with this style from them I think? 🤔 Overall they've been kissing Korean than hitting lately... 😵💫😵💫😵💫

The figure itself looks fine but the background doesn't look so great. Reminds me of those cheap toy playsets marketed towards children... Quite a shame too since this seemed like a really interesting concept.

Honestly, as a fellow owner of the figure, I am gonna have to hard disagree with this take. I think this is one of, if not the best, Mai figures currently on the market. Mai herself looks beautiful, with her face looking probably the best it has on a scale since the Aniplex bunny suit one in 2019. And the base imo looks beautiful when displayed in a case alongside other figures. I love how it recreates since a classic piece of art from the series.
I was unbelievably pleased with this figure, and I completely disagree with the “mid” rating.
I'll agree to disagree... 😅 Like I said in the video, my main gripe is the lack of paint detail on the the base and Mai's jacket. The base composition is really second to that for me... 😐
Estream's Shoko Makinohara figure was better. I love her so much. Shoko herself is so beautiful. They did a great job with the paint

I agree that this isn’t estream’s strength. I have their Gojo and he is perfect and he looks great from all angles. I’ve also got Yuta/Rika and Cyberpunk Rimuru on PO from them and I’m confident they will be good. I agree that these diorama style figures just aren’t it and I think they should focus on continuing to improve and innovate with figures like they’ve done with the crystal dress figures or gojo. Sorry you are disappointed! Hope the Neon City Rem isn’t a disappointment for you because from the photos she looks beautiful!

Ya this figure is a miss. I only have 1 estream figure the megumin one and that one is stunning 😍. I just got my Jeanne d'Arc Alter figure Re-run by ALTER and damb I see now why that figure is so popular its one of the best figures I've ever seen.
The difference in quality between companies is mindblowing! Maybe eStream needs to contract better factories for their figures... 😅
Stuff like this is exactly why I dislike eStream. They charge much more than most manufacturers and it doesn't feel justified. At least a company like Alter can justify some of their premium price with their amazing paint jobs and years of credibility. But I don't think eStream can say the same.

I am interested in Kitagawa Marin and Albedo Shikkoku no Dress Ver from their announcement. But I never trust their paint job and packaging. Their box looks like even bootleg and the packaging for the diorama base is terrible. The base can break easily if the shipping gets damaged. I’m planning to buy Albedo 1/4 B Style, which costs about 53K Yen for me, including the shipping fee. This will be my first 1/4 scale figure and also my first bunny figure. And what do you think about Freeing QC? I watched a lot of 1/4 B Style unboxing videos and in 10 videos about 6 include QC issues. I’m even afraid to buy her 😖.
I hold me breath whenever they make an announcement now... The FREEing Albedo looks great btw! As an owner of multiple bunnies from them I'd recommend taking pictures of the packaging 📦 the brown box with labels and everything else just incase you need to have it replaced! Fingers crossed yours come in perfect tho! 😁🤞

I had this figure for a few days before I sent it back due to it showing up with a broken ear. My replacement should be here in another week or so. I never fully unboxed her but she looked great from what I could see. I'm looking forward to getting her... again, despite the bad reception she seems to be getting.

Unfortunate that her figure turned out badly. She looks really different from the prototype pictures. You can see the shading difference with her jacket. I have eStreams Ultimate Rimuru and Neon-City Rem and Ram. I love all 3, they turned out great. My favorites in my collection. I guess it really depends which figure you get from them.

I think she would have made a nice stand alone figure tbh. Overall I'm a fan of what estream offers but they're quite hit and miss. I've stopped pre-ordering from them and GSC since they both tend to really overproduce, it's pretty easy to find a figure on release.
They misses a huge opportunity to create an affordable version, but I guess once you've seen that premium figure money it's hard to turn back... 🤣

100% agree. i would've bought it if it's just Mai. but seeing how eStream promotes itself as a luxury figure brand, they would never do that. also their bases are always unique, so having her by herself is, so to speak, not so eStream.
i forgot the name of the figure and i don't remember the manufacturer, but there's this Azur Lane figure that you could purchase as standalone and including her weapons. but some people still prefer her with weapons even when it's more expensive, because it elevated the figure more (💯 agree with derek there)
