it's only TRULEY accurate if the Sylladex becomes slowly less used and narratively important as the game continues until it gets to the point of not appearing for hundreds of pages (gameplay hours????) at a time

It honestly does just feel like a race to get as many array cartridges as possible. Now, if those cartridges are rare, that could be interesting, but honestly having complete and utter control over the inventory basically makes every single other cart completely obsolescent from the moment you get 3 of them.
@@Forcoy In this case, the goal of development isn't optimization for player use, but how silly and overly-technical you can make modi and combinations, probably for purposes of player expression. Self-limiting for the sake of a stupid gimmick or challenge has been in the purview of gamers for decades.
@@syweb2 They're a fun system to engage with, though, if not probably a little infuriating. That's kind of why I voiced my opinion on array carts needing to be relatively rare.

not related to the video but what the hell is artifact grist? it only is created when you make something that is physically Jpegged into hell and because of that I fear it
No one really knows, but apparently Post-Scratch Dave broke Earth's ecocnomy with it. Same mystery as whatever Zillium is. Is "one zillion" a number with a whole bunch of zeroes (you'd need an unholy amount of time to get that many), or is "zillion" a unit of measurement unto itself, and the Warhammer of Zillyhoo cost one (1) "zillion"-unit of Zillium grist?

I always figured "zillion" is just what Sburb calls computational infinity (2^1024, which is a number so big that floating point just gives up and says it's infinite, though knowing Sburb's proclivity for arc numbers maybe 2^1025 is a more appropriate number).
@@WackoMcGoosePost-Scratch Dave created items that were so poor-quality they cost _negative_ artifact grist, meaning that he gained artifact grist whenever he alchemised one. So, considering that, maybe artifact grist is a sort of cosmic karma? Create something incredibly sh-tty and the artifact grist will be a permanent stain on your Porkhollow to remind you of your sins, unless you somehow turn it into something actually valuable, which alpha Dave presumably did
Take your time, this is a big project, I'd rather you chip away at it slowly and be happy with it then try sprinting through it and stressing out over something you should enjoy.
Not me having an era in my life where I played The Genesis Project and legitimately memorizing how to use the Sylladex system and getting hype seeing this
warning, do not make a cyclone of cyclones of cyclones of cyclones because the cards will be so far away from the origin point they'll start coliding with the ground

i have an idea for a Modus.
Corrupt - Two layers of cards, when a card is ontop of another one, toss both of them out of the modus as a fused alchemy item, with a 50% chance that the item generated has a new modifier.
also do remember my helping tip with the previous video if you're reading this; only use primary colors + white and black for the card counter! red, yellow, blue, white, and black!

I've read nearly 2000 pages of homestuck in the past 2 days.
It's incredibly confusing and the time shenanigans are especially so, but it's also cool.
I'm a sucker for time-based stories as well, and this seems fun.

Wow! This is really amazing, the Sylladex has always been one of my favourite parts of Homestuck. I really can't wait to see how you implement Dave's or Rose's modi!

I recall that there is a real implementation of specifically the array-of-queuestacks, in the first Flash of walking around LoWaS. Does your implementation act the same as that Flash if given that combination of modi?
No, because that flash is actually really unwieldy. In the flash, you captchalogue into the queuestack you last *fetched* from, which means if you empty a queuestack you can't use it again. In SBEPIS it just fills up the first available card, although I might force people to manually pick a queuestack instead.
Couldn't you make it prioritise the last used queuestack, then fallback to the first empty slot?
But then you still can't pick empty queuestacks
@DragonFoxCollective Empty queuestacks would get used when the rest of the inventory fills up and they're needed. You could have a separate control which gives you more fine control over exactly where you put an item into your inventory, I suppose, and just have it default to the shortcut that prioritises based on context instead of asking you every time

also would recommend adding some sort of empty tag to blank cards to avoid having to pull cards down in queue based modi, would make them less jank but i can understand if it would cause problems implementing

4:15 Doesn't the flash game where you're John and going around with your funky hammer have a functional example of storing items with this? It's technically a third-level combination since it includes an array of such questacks at once, but I think it works as an example.
Personally, Wallet Modus was always my favourite, and I would love to see it. More than a little boring as all hell, but very easy to use, for those who find that part more tedious than fun or funny. Gonna check it all out when I have the chance (and I’m probably gonna try Minestuck again, now, dammit - I was already feeling the cursed urge to try GregTech again, and now something in me wants to *combine them*.)
Now let's make some problems that players have to solve with sylladex shenanagins :)

this is insanely cool!!! fetch modi are the one thing i always avoid when working on homestuck projects, and seeing someone not only make them accurately, but include lost one off mechanics is really, really cool!! now one of the few youtubers i have notifs on for
You kind of do this already, but the way I thought of this system is that these fetch modi always either nests their functions with one before or after the other in series, or allow the user to use either ruleset to access the same data set. For example, you could think of both the stack and queue modi as allowing the same kind of 1d array with different access rules for each, so together they act on the same array.
It would be cool if there are some combinations of fetch modi that just do not work together. Seems like something that would exist in the broken game homestuck is

You can only use your items on things that are either the same kind of item or the same color
seeing those cyclones made me think of a revolver, what if you could have a fetch modus that can be incremented manually but only allows access to the next thing in line, like how when you cock the hammer on a revolver, the cylinder spins to the next chamber, instead of the chamber that was under the hammer when you first cocked it.

That demo looks smooth as butter. If I were to get that demo, I would just sit and play with empty cards for like... ten minutes. WHICH, might not sound much but it certainly IS for me.

There's a bunch of neat and novel mechanics! The alchemodus, which only lets you fetch things by alchemizing them. The modUs, which shares inventory globally. The poptart modus, which gives you a poptart you have to eat. There's at least a couple dozen, I would recommend checking out MSU proper :3

The sylladex is a really good source of damage for combat, actually. Array is notoriously bad at weaponizing in Homestuck, according to Dave
