    I can’t believe I’ve never thought to use an antenna switch like that, thanks for the inspiration. I did get one of those 27Mhz telescopic and found it works well. Cheers 👍

    Great video. I was mind blown once I hooked up a 27MHz a telescoping antenna on my K5 like yours. Picking up CB signals all over North America with it. Couldn’t even get noise on CB6 with the Nagoya 771….

    I use a good field strength meter with a large sensitive meter 10 meters away for comparing antenna performance. It's very quick and easy to see which antennas have better ERP and consequently better receive also

    The 27mhz one needs shortening on both 10 and 11m but it works well with a wire counterpoise, i had a real good couple of 2500km contacts with my ft817 in one hand and the microphone in the other with 3 watts. (From inside my house) amazing

    what is the proper length of the antenna for lowest swr on 28.400 and 29.600 // would be good for qrp antenna for 817ND Xeigu ect ect as it would only need to be slightly shorter in length prehaps... you can make a video to show the results of that. would be of benefit to others if it was possible..

      would be interesting to check this with antenna analyzer like an mfj ect... would be nice to check length for that 27mhz antenna.. some of them most often like some 11m antennas are often modified for 10m by trimming 2 or so inches from them.. 73 de vo1kjm

    I want to buy the 27Mhz antenna for my Quansheng UV-K5(8) but the BNC won't fit the Quansheng, whats the adapter I need ? I don't want to use a "pigtail" adapter, I want the antenna to screw into the radio.

    Not sure why you chose CB 27Mhz antennas to do this test. The last thing anyone should do with this radio is transmit on 27Mhz. The internal filters were never designed for this frequency and the harmonics are harmful with minuscule power actually transmitted on 27 as so much goes into the harmonics

    73's Paul it does exist a 150 cm 27 MHz CB whip (you are using a 130 cm one).

    I have the same 27mhz Telescopic antenna but haven't heard much on it so far (on my modded quansheng) . I also have a Tactical 124cm clone aliexpress antenna wich gives me better results than the 27mhz cb antenna. Now i also have an MLA-30+ Wich gives me the best performance. Not sure why the 27mhz is the worst of those 3.

    Be warned that many (most?) of the supposed Nagoya dual 2m / 70cm whip antennas sold on e-Bay and AliExpress are fakes. They lack the correct matching components and function purely as a quarter-wave whip resonant at about 190Mhz. Putting them on a network analyser (I have one of those little nanoVNAs) reveals a very poor SWR at 2 metres and 70 cms.

      That's interesting, because I tried the nagoya clone as a HF whip with the HF modified quansheng and it did not work at all, so there is likely some matching circuit inside.

    The way those Moonraker antenna switches work grounds the antenna you haven't selected making that one the counterpoise to the selected antenna, hence the interaction. Just F.Y.I

    You can't have two antenna elements so close together. The interaction between them will make any tests pointless.

      Well, there is no another way how to perform this test with A/B switch and telescopic whips. If we are doing this test of all antennas under the same testing conditions, why would be the results pointless even if they are so close each other? The point is just to see which antenna produce a stronger signal, no more, no less 😉

      ​@OM0ET yes! You proved it, without a doubt. Sure there will be some interference between the 2 whips, but the difference was simply too big, plus it was receive only!

      I would just confirm the results by testing the top two one at a time to make sure interaction with the other antenna wasn’t a big factor.

    What a player you are with your toys. Why switch between the antennas so fast, next time make it much slower so that real world listening can happen. And comparisons can be made. To switch it so quickly does nothing for me.

    This is completely dead on 20m ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you switched so fast that the radio had NO chance to accept signal from antenna. Next time keep your damned fingers off the antenna switch longer.

      No my friend, you are wrong. The AGC is set to FAST, so there is no time needed to regenerate sensitivity in receiver between A/B switching. Also, due to the heavy QSB on Shortwaves makes no sense to keep the words last any longer if I can see the real difference between A and B. If you look on another antennas comparison in the video, you could see how it nicely works and recognize which is better and which worse on receive. Best 73.
