Thanks for kind words. It is a bit 'repetitive' - the stupidest crime in any monologue - but, as you say, it's a start, and in Shakespeare there are usually a few new good words that we discover when we keep at it. Shakespeare is only boring when actors give up! John

I've wondered about a hypothetical scenario in which an actor of much greater stature and acclaim plays a subservient character opposite a talented but inexperienced and unknown actor in a more dominant role (e.g. a servant and the Lord of the Manor.) If the inexperienced actor is perhaps rather stagestruck by the famous actor, how would he keep that from showing while having to "Lord it over" the other character? Would the experienced actor be at pains to tone down his confidence and larger-than-life stage presence so as to keep from overwhelming his scene-mate?
This is a good question, because it basically asks how we manage with any fellow-actor when things are difficult. I recently had to advise a leading actor dealing with the opposite situation where the people playing opposite him were making what he was doing seem trivial. I can't answer in a few lines. Yes. Any good edition of the play, even online, will explain the meaning of words. The important thing is for the actor to make them real, to re-create them. John Windsor-Cunningham
@@NewYorkActingCoach I'd have trouble feeling that kind of absolute entitlement Richard II has about anything in my life. It would be a big stretch and I'd have to get extraordinarily creative about it.
Hmm. Sorry, but 'safety' isn't a word which comes up often in the world of actors, and it's all up to you to find some reality in the lines, for you may feel Hamlet is hopelessly in love with Ophelia, or that he's in fact incredibly selfish, so your feelings may be too easy or perfect ! And I'm not sure an actor needs to "understand" his feelings because his feelings may be carrying him or her away! Just work hard enough to feel at home because too many actors just guess. John.
You do the wrath of god stuff well, too well, it's scary. I've noticed a trend in television with angry scenes they're playing them softer, it's not realistic, tv is an escapist medium, many fictional tv-discussions that I would picture as heated are played down to be almost calming. I guess theatre is way more animated and expressive, and you're theatre. Just my reflections. Good monologue, you'd get the role just reading it.

Amazing acting. Apart from this, I want to note that Shakespeare is incredibly overrated.
I rather think that he's "wrongly-rated" because people don't understand him. It takes years, I'm afraid!
