A Shakespearean Actor On Acting
Вставка

- This so talented actor brings Shakespeare to life, to see his reaction to performing master works is inspiring, and how some writing truly is timeless.
"When I started acting, I hated myself. Most actors do." Getting teary, here...
Such a relatable quote. I'm currently reading his book, "Being An Actor" and as an aspiring performer myself, I've never read another account that is so brutally honest about the trials and tribulations of trying to start out as an actor but not forgetting about the rewards too! It's frankly inspiring to read that you're not alone when you doubt yourself when you start off, especially coming from such a well respected stage and screen actor such as him. :)

Not teary at all. It was a dispassionate Observation.
He is so passionate it's beautiful
I agree my friend, this actor is so in tune with the deep talent of Shakespeare! It is remarkable that he talks about how he felt, like he did not belong and even hated himself, but through the process of acting - being other people - be came to know himself. Blessings! Tim :)

Callow is so articulate. Speaks beautifully. I'm envious.
Brilliant! Fascinating! Leagues above the stupidity of the current situation and the multitude of fools. A breath of fresh air. Loved the way he described acting as being Zen. Being in the moment which brings you alive.
Thank you Mr. Muir. You've done those of us without the opportunity of attending a grand acting school the greatest favor for sharing these shows. I'm indebted to you. Even if I never get to act again I can live vicariously through your great work. Thank you sir.
what a treasure this guy is.....as an aside he looks like a younger version of MCkellen
Simon Callow is a fascinating personality and actor.
I am reading his book on Charles Laughton. It's wonderfully well written and articulate. He calls Laughton in the same league as Shakespreare as an actor.
That last sonnet: Callow just completely nails it, straight off the cuff! A real pleasure to watch
An elegant and intelligent man

3:42 With Shakespeare, I'm a novice. As a violinist, I'm not, and I can say whenever I hear actors say this about trusting the part Shakespeare has created, I think of Johann Sebastian Bach's work. It's exactly this way with Bach. He's taken care of it all in the very notes, phrases, pacing, counterpoint, even timbre in terms of orchestration. All one must do almost is simply play it. That's why Wendy Carlos could put Bach on Moogs. You could plug in Bach to 50 kazoos or sampled flatulence and aside from a laugh, it would absolutely still work in all its majesty!
Well said.
I've admired Simon's work for decades. Thanks for this upload. :)
Brilliant video, thank you for uploading
Loved him in Four Weddings and A Funeral, he's probably the best thing in it actually. Honestly thought he was gay in real life, after Four Weddings. Love to see more of him, great voice and clarity and resonance. Bloody good actor. Can definitely tell he's classically trained!
it's been 4 years but this comment confused me so much i have to tell you he is gay
Wonderful interview! I enjoyed listening and seeing the spirit of a amazing writer through this passionate actor! TY for sharing my friend! Blessings! Diane : )
This dude was introduced to me as the villain from Ace Ventura
MAGNIFICENT thank you
I really enjoyed that, thanks.
Love Simon Callow!!
enjoyed this a lot!!
BRILLIANT!
Thank you so much...amazing and helpful points...love to learn more
If only the interviewer would stop interjecting himself and interrupting this brilliance. Yes one has to ask questions, but then get out of the way!
who remembers this guy from Ace Ventrura?
Should I have one channel for each passion I have?
Makes me want to watch ace Ventura
lol
UNHINGED!!!
How on earth can Rose leave out his magnificent biography of Charles Laughton, whom many consider one of the greatest or the greatest actor who ever lived?
SIMON CALLOW GREAT GUY !!!!
This is a really great help for me. I’m playing a Shakespearean actor in my school production and this is great reference
That's wonderful that this interview is of such help to you ☺
I am currently listening to¨A Handful of Dust¨, by Evelyn Waugh. For the fourth time. Callow takes the dialogue of Waugh and cracks it like a whip. And Waugh was no pussy.
Nice to see an interviewer floundering so completely out of his depth. Simon opens up language with enthusiasm and knowledge - praise him.
Yes. Callow is leagues above him and above most pple.
He stole the story of Romeo and Juliet from the Arabic story Layla and kice.
What is it with actors and scarves?
It's to have that actorly look ☺
To keep their throats warm and prevent aphony inducing colds. After all, their main tool is their voice. Same for singers.
Don’t understand why you just didn’t say Simon Callow
Charlie Looks so damn old LUL
23:40 "who dares wins" is the moto of the S-A-S, not the mamby pamby marines.
You can't beat Genius: Mozart, Shakespere, Bach, Wagner and to a lesser extent Hitler (evil genius).......
That took a turn for the sinister quite quickly...
Add Berlioz.
