In February of 2009, New Jersey Transit and 3 Atlantic City Casino/Resorts began operating the ACES Train (Atlantic City Express Service). We saw the train being tested in January of this year. (See video link below). With a few weeks of planning and lots of camera preparation, this trip turned out to be excellent. Starting off at NJT's Hamilton Station, we'll skip ahead to Newark Penn Station. At Newark, we'll board Westbound ACES Train 7171. With some great train races, along with two crossings of the Delaware River -- the ride to Philadelphia is action-packed. But the ride gets even better upon switching onto the Atlantic City Line. With an unbelievable amount of grade crossings, the K5LA horn on our train is busy the whole way through. However, there were a lot of passengers on the trip to Atlantic City. The less-crowded return trip to New York yielded MUCH better K5LA audio!
So come along with us on a journey from Hamilton to Newark to Atlantic City... and return! With ex-Amtrak P40's, ex-Conrail / CNJ GP40's and much, much more... this is one Trainiac Production you won't want to miss!

4:00 Of course this is the Delaware River, between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
I'm a tram and I approve this video!!!
Bring it Back need it now
Nice video! Really interesting!

Yeah that's fast and neat. Sometime I'll visit. Thanks.
Wish we had this now in 2022.
As do I! Thank you for watching, Andrew!
i wish they were still here
Yep
I agree
Yes please bring ACES back.
With stops at:
NY Penn
Newark Penn
Metropark
Trenton
Atlantic City.
Also construct a new track to switch off to the Atlantic City Line so it won't have to stop to change directions at the North Phialdelphia junction like they did back in 2009-2011. They can use ALP-45DPs, with 3 MultiLevel trailers and 1 MultiLevel Cab Car. The modes can be changed on either end of the train, and should be changed between diesel and electric at Trenton so it can go faster. And can be included on a regular NJT ticket, as well as reservation service to avoid ticket machine crowding (Of course, they can't work on reviving it right now due to COVID-related travel restrictions).
@@averyrizzolo9082 Incorrect, only stopping at New York Penn Station, Newark Penn Station, And Atlantic City Rail Terminal.

R.I.P ACES :(
The drive to Atlantic city is pretty nice. I would have liked to have rode this train before it was discontinued
It was a very nice, enjoyable ride with great amenities. I wish it was still around! Thanks for watching, my friend!
Yes it waz very low ridership and was discounted 2009 or 2013
@@michealguillen8496 2012.
They should have included Philadelphia as a stop. That would have added demand and revenue to the line with little interruption to the service. It may have survived.
your welcome
Excellent storytelling!! The whole trip in 10 minutes. Good job..
Thank you for sharing this video found it to be very enjoyable. What memories this video brings back when I was living in up state New York. No cars needed just ride the train to where I wanted to go. Again thank you for sharing.
What a grate video Kyle!
Nice! Well worth the wait!
Great video! Loved every second of it.
Canon SD1000is and Canon SD1100is
Awesome job on this Kyle!
Very impressed with the improvements in train travel to AC since I lived on the east coast. Thanks for the vid. You've got to get a better diet, though.
cool thanks.
very awesome video kyle
Very nice! I still haven't gotten a ride on any of the multi level cars yet. Man that must've been sweet to ride the rails from NY to AC!
Wow I live in Hamilton
Oh that's cool!

Of course the ACES should run seasonally, from May to September, weekends only.
It sucks because around this time Atlantic City was hitting really hard times in 2009. Especially myself who use to work in Atlantic City casinos.
Oh alright, thanks Joe!
Thanks, Corey!
Great vid! Keep up the good work.
Inspecting the train for stress cracks.
great video but shore interlocking is in Philadelphia you don't technically leave the city till you pass Torresdale station.
The only way to Atlantic City nowadays without having to go to Philadelphia is a 50 minute ride on the River Line Light Rail from Trenton Transit Center to Pennsauken Transit Center where you can transfer to the Atlantic City Line trains.
Great Video
From what I can see here, ACES' bi-level cars are similar to that of Maryland's MARC rail system. Only thing that MARC doesn't offer is food service. However, that doesn't stop the commuters from bringing their own meals on board! I can agree that the seats are MUCH more comfortable compared to the Amtrak Regional coach seats, but then again, a train seat's more comfy than a bus seat! LOL
It’s Multilevel
Nice vid wish I'd seen more Aem-7s
those are alp-44
sonicfan09 super the aces had the alp-44 but the Amtrak train had an aem-7
Good video. One thing. Conductors don't move trains Engineers do.
Would have liked to see more of the inside of the train
😂😂😂 Glad you enjoyed, thanks for the kind and uplifting compliment! Have a wonderful day!
Nice video, especially with 4674, which had a super rare 5 car set!!!
How did you like the delare River lol
You forgot to capture when the train stops at Philly.
Track repairs on going
Hopefully coming to an end, soon!
Because of the track configuration between the Delair branch and the NEC I always assumed the ACES stopped in Philadelphia. Now that I hear they don't, I'm curious to know where they stop to reverse.
They stopped at the Frankford Junction in the northeast part of the city
i have never seen a P40DC, but they look pretty cool
cool I use a Powershot SD1000, a Kodak easyshare C513, & a Canon Elura 100 widescreen camcorder.
awesome job! seems like a very interesting train! im guessin they had some p42dc's right
The front locomotive on the ACES is a P40. It’s a little different from the P42DC.
Did you know?
The ACES was originally called the Blue Comet.
And the Nelly Bly.
Nelly Bly was the Pennsy competitor to the Central Railroad of New Jersey. The CNJ's Blue Comet had a faster service to AC running through New Jersey on the New York and Long Branch to Red Bank and then on the CNJ Southern Division to Winslow Junction and then into AC to Pennsy/Reading seashore Line.@@MadMotorman
I hope they restore the ACES, We can have 2 Atlantic Express Bounds, Train, or Bus
ACES: Atlantic City/New York via Newark, NJ Express 319: Atlantic City/New York via Toms River
NJ Transit Bi-level set: HAA!! I'm winning
ACES 7171: Why bother? You know you'll have to stop soon, unlike you, regular electricitians, I don't have to keep stopping by stations,
Bi-Level set: (GASPS) OOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (Groans in pain)
ACES 7171: I PROBABLY KNEW YOU NEED A LITTLE REST!!! (LAUGHS)
NJT BI-Level set: (Groans in frustration)
ACES 7171: Hey 4674!
NJT ACL 4674: Yo Wassup!
ACES 7174: Hew Academy 319!!
Academy 319: Hey Yo!!
Thanks! Trust me -- First Class ACES compared to anything on the Acela.. and you'd take ACES.
ok well, have fun
Why don't NJ Transit invest money in expanding the North Jersey Coast Line to Atlantic City ?
Bro the problem is that it has to go to Philadelphia then reverse which it is possible today but it is gonna take 3 hours and it has to get on the northeast corridor line or they have to build tracks past bay head but there is no point technically it’s better just to return the Atlantic City express service
@SuperNJTRANSIT It runs seasonal, and returns to service tonight, May 13
I'm going to PJC Tuesday, thanks though!
I have no idea lol. But I'm getting a Widescreen Sony Camcorder in a month or so, so Trainiac Productions will be going 16:9.
Most luxury train lol
Haha yes! Very luxurious!
How cost for the express train to Altantic City
Thanks! But it was the conductor. He is certified to operate a locomotive.
So if I wanted to travel by train to Atlantic City, I could have a direct ride there from Newark Penn?
This service ended years ago
@@casbrowne9055 Thanks, I had no idea.
@@matthewhirsch2306 there is still an option to take the Atlantic City line from Philadelphia to Atlantic City by New Jersey Transit
@casbrowne9055 would departing from Newark Penn take me to Philadelphia so I can take another train to Atlantic City?
@@matthewhirsch2306Yes, you would be able to take Amtrak to Philadelphia and the New Jersey Transit to Atlantic City
Great stuff, man. Catching 5 Comet cars on an ACL train is rare. The usual max. is 4. Also, the $29 coach fare for one way or round trip? Anyway, 5*, a favorite, and a channel post.
Grade crossings at what MPH? Great video sounds like a great trip. Maybe sometime I'll take a similar trip starting with Amtrak at Harrisburg.
been waiting for this video since i saw the trailer.
Truly an amazing video and a great inside look on ACES. Thanks so much for the great video's you've made !
How long is the turn around time in AC?
Hey 11 years in the future uh trains here are usually about an hour apart so that kinda gives you an idea lmao but sadly the ACL isn’t what it used to be anymore they should really fix the PA Reading Seashore line and go to wildwood and cape may I bet you they would make way more money
I've posted two vids of ACES at grade crossings on the AC line, along with a few others. Search ACES and you'll find them. 79mph +/-. Just shot a daylight meet at Cherry Hill that'll be up soon too. Curt 1flyfire8
Not sure, something that had to do with the ditch lights malfunctioning.
Great job dude. You should do a little promo-video for NJT to help promote this train!
Amazing..when they proposed this line , somewhere in the planning didn't the fact that AC casino industry was dieing?
The only thing I don't like about the ACES Set is there is a AEM7
there alp-44's
Outstanding video buddy. That's some rare footage from the A.C. rail terminal, and great footage all together, and thanks for the message about my channel, it really means a lot to me. I hope to make it to Macungie, Pa and Allentown Yard this Sunday.
Dan
Sounds like you had some Brits cor company seated nearby.
Ik this might sound stupid...but how did the train switch tracks at Frankford Junction ??? Or did they remove the tracks ??
This video makes it official. The MBTA comet coaches have the shittiest seats that run on the NEC.
Nice. Video. Although I think Acela First Class beats even the first class aboard ACES.
Excellent production and editing/post production. Were you allowed to use GoPro or a tripod?
Is that a crossing right there at AC station?
Hello Traniac Productions! I was wondering if I could use a few clips from this video on a project I'm working on for the UA-cam series, Engines of New Jersey Transit!
i dont understand how can the NJT ACES go from NY to AC if they are southbound tracks on the NEC connecting to the AC branch
Awesome! What camera did you take this with?
what i dont understand is how can the NJT ACES go from NY to AC if they are no southbound tracks on the NEC that connects to the tracks that go to AC
Train crosses and changes ends and power mode at Shore Interlocking in North Philadelphia.
It's acting as a cab car
Nice vid. What did that meal run you about 15-20 bucks?
Food on the AC boardwalk is nothing if not expensive!
RIP ACES SERVICE
soooooo wait!!!!!! a lot of ppl say that the alp 44 electric, just acts as a cab car when its out of the electric territory meanin its like a dummy loco right now, but you just said its in MU mode, so im guessing the Alp 44 is still on and is capable of pullin or pushing right in non electric territory??? right?????
Awesome as usual! But how can you say the ACES is the most luxurious when the Acela Express shares the same line?
Are those Powershot cameras?
Is there any chance of that ACE line will be Electrified? and the rest of the network?
Not a ghost of a chance.
how much does it cost for a oneway ticket for ACES????
Atlantic City is dying once again. Casinos are packing up and leaving. Is it any wonder that this train service should fold as well? NJ's favorite town is once again RIP and the funny part is that they did it all to themselves back in 1972. Atlantic City started with train service back in 1854, How appropriate that it should die the same way.
RIP ACES. :(
hey kyle, you in for going to new brunswick station on monday the 12 with me and a bucnh of other railfans?
Then he is an engineer/conductor. Hmmm.
Awesome video. Are the ACES bi-levels nicer than the regular NJT bi-levels?
what day did you tape this video on?
What is the average speed of the train? were you able to find out?
Now that aces is gone am I just finding out about it. I wonder though if the original ny to ac trains came down along the jersey shore? Avoiding having to go into pa.
yes they did; via the inland "pine Barrens" route which is "out of service" at this time
Today (as of now), perhaps the only way to get to Atlantic City from NYC without having to go towards Philadelphia would be the NJT River Line Light Rail from Trenton Transit Center to Pennsauken Transit Center (a 50 minute train ride) where you can transfer to the ACL bound for Atlantic City. It's a lot less cheaper if I say so myself.

Thanks, Tim!
when you say the electric is in mu mode did u ment to say cab mode meaning the electric is jus acting as a cab car, or is the electric engine is still able to operate by having the diesel powerplant operating the electric loco's traction motors
Like #200, Comment #100 👍
Record setter ova here lmao!! Thanks very much, man! I appreciate it!
Why did the service end?
To few riders, so no profit, it was supposed to be the alternative to taking the bus for New Yorkers to get to AC, but the cost and probably the lack of a direct connection to the casinos were its final downfall, I once thought of taking it for fun instead of the bus or driving but never did, with the aces train there were different price points depending on the level of seating you wanted, economy and the equivalent of first class on a plane etc.
Peter how much was a ticket?
Low ridership
Ac is a ghost town
i just never understood why the alp 44 they should just use the genesis engine all around
The P42 Genesis locomotive is 100 diesel and laws prevent trains running on diesel from operating in NY Penn. The ALP44 was used to power up the train along the NEC between NY Penn and Shore Interlocking in North Philadelphia. At Shore, the pantographs are lowered and the diesel is powered up. Then the ALP 44 is used as a cab car into Atlantic City. I'm not sure if ACES trains had locomotive engineers in each locomotive to speed the turn around at Shore, that's a mystery to me. The dual mode locos arrived too late, otherwise would have made ACES operations easier.
NEC speeds are much slower. Too many turns and too many old track beds and old rails. Between Philly and Wilmington it's very slow and Amtrak gets passed by the traffic on I-95. ACL is 50-60 mph average, plenty of improvements over the last ten years. NEC is less than highway speeds. Amtrak's timetable gives distances, so the MPH speed is a simple calculation. Even the Acela has to go slow in too many places.
zippyman818 You have no idea what you’re talking about. The train between philly and Wilmington hauls ass. Faster than cars along 495. Not 95.
ohhh ok then
Great video
Thank you very much, David! I appreciate it!
