What a fantastic video. Love the no B.S., no hype, tell-it-how it is thoughts. The comparison vs the Klipsch is food for thought.
I own the A10s and have been comparing them for the last few weeks against these set-ups...
Merason DAC > Rega Aethos > Neat Petite 30 (about 2x the price of the Buchardt/Primare)
Merason DAC > Hegel H390 > Dynaudio Heritage Special (about 3x the price)
    A few thoughts...
    1. It's interesting your tests involve driving the snot out of them. For me I'm the exact opposite, I listen at 65db peaks on most evenings and generally 75db peaks are plenty enough for me to rock out a little. Low listening performance is critical to me. Here the A10s with DSP excel - though that Dynaudio set-up are the two best low level champs I've heard (BTW studies have shown hearing damage happens at prolonged exposure above 85db)
    2. It's interesting you found moving your head up and down annoying. I experienced this with either moving my head side to side or not sitting exactly centre. When I did this I could clearly hear the tweeter which isn't the case with either of the other set-ups, where the speakers disappear much more easily. I've largely solved this with extreme toe-in. But yeah, if set-up isn't perfect with the A10s there are problems. They are quite fussy in that respect. Also a little more soundstage height would be nice. Those are may main two issues with the A10.
    3. Agree with the Primare app, it is slow, buggy and annoying. And the lack of Tidal connect is a bummer. I may have to get an external streamer so I can use Roon (no idea when Roon will be on the Primare) because the app kills the user experience. The Primare unit and remote are very nice though.
    3. BTW, did you know you can increase/decrease the db level for each app/input? I wonder if doing that may have given you more headroom, perhaps you're already aware.
    4. Vs the other two more costly set-ups, I prefer the A10s, even with it the niggles. It has all the clarity and resolution, and soundstaging, of the Dynaudios (which are highly rated) but when it comes to poor recorded tracks it doesn't make your ears ache like the Dynaudios can, they are quite ruthless. Plus there's a bit more warmth and body in the mids which is highly addictive. It's scary how close the two set-ups are in performance level give the price difference, but the A10 edges it. Not perfect but bloody impressive for my specific needs. If you needed to rock out at high levels the Dynaudios would win though. Guess there's only so much you can push a smaller woofer before physics kicks in. (Kef KC62 sub on route!)
Anyway, keep up the awesome reviews. Currently my favourite audiophile channel :)
    Chris

@@jaredpmoser I have the same Eversolo. The DAC in it is decent but has that typical DS sound... I preferred the DAC in the speakers which I believe are BurrBrown. A more natural pleasing sound to me. The Eversolo streamer is decent too, better than a £500 iFi - the Primare streamer is about the same level as the Eversolo with the benefit of wireless. But the primare app is awful, unless you're using Spotify connect you're limited (no Tidal connect and no idea when it will be Roon ready. I have a Silent Angel Z1 which is a Room Core and Bridge in one box which solves the Primare's limitations perfectly. Z1 > Primare > A10 (wireless) = sweet! Hope that helps. Never heard the Kefs

    Hi there!
Headroom with active speakers benefit from adding a sub. I think the A10 with a sub go to the next level.
I personally used them at first without and was content with the bass due to their nice tuning but when I eventually added my sub with a small Wisa wireless adapter I haven’t looked back. You can corner load the room with the sub and the room correction fully benefit the added gain and correct accordingly. My 2cents.

Very interesting comparison and I wonder if there'll ever be someone again who pairs a 6 grand amp with speakers that cost 13% of that 😅
I value the precise bass in Purifi driver equipped Buchardt speakers in combination with the very low bass they deliver. And the bass-mid drivers have so little distortion that the music sounds "purer" to my ears. I run them in a small room and the SPL limits are not an issue there (would be different in a bigger room).
Conventional speakers with vented enclosures seem to put "additives" into the music in comparison (at least to my ears - maybe because of longer decay of impulses in the mid-woofer?). That's not good or bad, just different.
For very dynamic sound I also have a second set of speakers (in a bigger room), but I went for a 15"+1.4" horn combination (Joseph Crowe 1815) that can do 120+ dB if pushed with Watts. And that's also more linear sounding than Klipsch systems (w/o need for correction).

Awesome video! I think it would be better to flip the speakers over on one side so they are the same distance apart to determine sounstage and imaging etc.. example being, if looking at the speakers from left to right it would be, speaker a and b on the left and then speaker a and b on the right.. Toe in the speakers accordingly to aim at the listening position. Not sure if i've explained this that well and of course, it's just my opinion. :)

Thank you for this, though it throws up more questions than provides answers for me. I have pondered Buchardts- possibly the A700 LE. I also watched your TDAI 3400 review, because that is an option with a decent DAC and great room correction etc.. You and others kinda intimated it could be bland or boring. Maybe I should just get my 15" Altec Lansings out of storage and the (large) cabinets refurbished, because they do not sound compressed at higher SPLs. The TDAI may be overkill for such sensitive speakers.

    • @stjernholmreviews
      @stjernholmreviews  2 місяці тому +1

@adrianrorvik7488 the 3400 is really a powerhouse of great software and processing features, that can accommodate almost any setup. Only handicap is the poweramps, that for some reason is boring over time. BUT... the rest of the machine and software is such a powerful tool and a pleasure to use, that its really the basic building block for any experimenting audiophile and and at the same time, IT JUST WORKS and is such a sweet thang in everyday use. NOBODY has anything like this, that is so refined.
You could use the build in amps to drive passive subs, its that flexible.
I use it all the time, and often end up with it for clients, where nothing else makes sense as a solution. Just use the poweramp you like the most with it, and consider the 3400 a preamp / processor with a built in powerful amp.

Funny… no mention of the Buchardt reaching 25hz… I have those A10 and I tell you, it is impossible for the Klipsch to reach near that. (Probably not much under 50hz) The limitation (that you can over ride in the app under each speaker level) is because of that reach in sub frequency. If you limit them like the klipsch to 50hz, you can go louder. But why getting such a full range speaker to cut there balls…? And if you like that “richness” of the klipsch (I don’t ), go boost 200hz on the Buchardt eq.

It's not a review of the A10. Well, a lot can be discussed about taking a tiny, sealed speaker to 25Hz, sir :-) The distortion levels alone, if you ask for 90dB SPL.. It only makes real sense with very moderate SPL. So the question is more: "Who are crazy enough?" (crowd screams: BUCHARDT! in the answer :-D )
On the other hand, with the voicings users get a lot of flexibility, and I can see the A10 becoming a monster, if a sub is taking over the work below 80Hz.

Yes. WISA is a 24 bit / 96Khz wireless transmission standard. In theory as good as a cable if the transmission is solid, + all the variables there is with the transmitter itself, that becomes important for the final sound. If wireless transmission is NOT nessasary for your setup, I would recommend using a cable simply for less potential hassle. Some might even like to "color" the sound using a preamp they like and so on.

17:48 Is that a full screen spectrum analyzer display? With no peripheral icons etc. shown (better)? What software/how are you getting that?

19:40 I want to display that on my large screen TV/Monitor! How? I don't want it to be a room microphone as input though.

I really wish that Buchardt would re issue the A 500. This would crush the Kliptch.

Thanks for the video. By the way Stjernholm in all honestly ...you should remove your cap as it reflect oncoming sounds AND you need to use another seating apparatus, that does Not reflect sound right back from behind your ears, and change the aural experience. Just sayin' 🙂

:-). Many things do. Even the camera or the amount of ear-hair on the day. That why I started waxing my ears every 3 months.

@@stjernholmreviews Yes, the two mics we carry around on our heads I clean every couple of days, but the listening position is a big one. By the way, do you ever 'pop' your ears before every listening session? Hold your nostrils, and close your mouth while trying to blow? Try and it shows if it's blocked or pops. It makes a big diferance mon sherry... hahaha. See, and hear my prototypes without any fancy mics, that I need to get. Keep truckin'.

Really enjoyed the Review. I am researching the A10s quite a bit because I think of buying them.
I was suprised that you did not get the same Bass levels you had in your first reaction Video because a lot of other reviewers mention the Great Bass of the A10 as well. Hence I would be interested on how you did drive the First pair of A10 in the First reaction. Was it xlr or wireless? If Wireless, Primare or Platin hub. I got the feeling that the primare was the weak part in your comparison and would love to understand this better before I buy
BTW was the volume Limited to 75% in the Primare. Ive Seen somewhere that it is initially configured Like that.
Anyway. Keep up the great work and I would really appreciate your Feedback
    Kind regards
    Martin
