Very interesting! Glad to hear from Bing himself in regard to his life from the beginning and development into the field of entertainment. I consider Bing as the BEST VOICE EVER and really very good in everything he did.
As Bing's Biographer states unequivocally, that Bing is the ONLY Classically-Trained Intellect in American popular Entertainment.....being a product of the strict Jesuits at Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington, as they studied Greek, Latin, The Classics, Philosophy, Elocution, World History, Art, Music, etc. He was incredibly bright, and entered the Debate Club, where he could give speeches, adhering to enunciation, articulation, and logic. A very smart man.
Was one year old when this interview took place. Bing remains my favorite vocalist, even though i've been a Rock fan my whole life and i'm from a far different generation.

Apparently oldest son Gary retracted the claims in his 1983 book as false. Had told his younger half sister and brother that publishers had encouraged him to exaggerate his claims, and that he had written the book simply for money. The publishers had told him ‘the worse it was the more books would sell’ and he was very clear about why he did it and what he did. He apologised profusely to the family but the damage was done. His brother Phillip also said in interviews that the abuse Gary alleged was exaggerated. His half-brother Harry said he never experienced the alleged abuse described in Gary’s memoir. He said: “I don’t know where it came from. I only know my own experience with my dad which was one of love, support, friendship and respect,” he says. “My dad never pushed us into music or entertainment - we were exposed to it and I loved working together.”
Exactly. And biographer Gary Giddins also did a long interview with Gary Crosby during which he went with him through Gary C's book page by page and asked him questions about the details described there. He found out that Gary Crosby didn't "remember" the things he described and that he even hadn't written much of the book by himself - the publishers even manipulated the book after Gary Crosby had added the exaggerations.
Yeah as usual publishers are always happy to print BS after a person dies, that way they cannot hit back.......but Gary did in fact recant and make it quite clear most of the book had not been written by him and the publisher pushed for all the beating bs.
I saw a Barbara Walters interview with Bing where he SAID he spanked his kids a lot...with a hairbrush, etc. He was (admittedly), a strict disciplinarian. However, I don't believe he did all those things that Gary accused him of doing. It is sad, though, that TWO of his sons died by suicide...obviously, very troubled. I still admire Bing Crosby and love his voice, music and movies. I find it very touching how he talks about his FAITH in this particular interview. May he RIP.
Maybe you're confusing being laid back with being tired? This is from the 60s, though, I don't know much you are familiar with footage of Bing from the 30s to 50s. He certainly was a bit more active there. Though also what you'd call "laid-back".

Bing was the epitome of laid back, he was always this way. So was Perry Como.
