- The movie tells the story Sam Dawson a man with cognitive delay that creates his daughter Lucy with a lot of help from his friends . But so does seven years Lucy begins to intellectually surpass her father , and this situation calls attention to a social worker who wants Lucy admitted to an orphanage . From then Sam faces a case virtually impossible to overcome for it, counting on the help of Rita Harrison lawyer who accepts the case as a challenge to their peers.

This is a amazing performance of Sean Penn... The movie showing us how strong is the connection between parents and children... its no mather, that this father have not brain - the child want his father, this is a big, strong love... Amazing!!!
For me is the best performance of Sean Penn... unfortunately he did not win the Oscar of that year :)

Not every man with a 100 top iq can even be a great father. A father is beyond that of intelligence. Its the deepest love any daughter will ever need in her life.
Love means a lot, but it is not all you need. How this movie ends would be great: love from the parent and help from a foster home. But I know one story that almost ended in tragedy. My cousin's cousin has very low IQ (around 65), but she had a boyfriend and they had a child. They had it all sorted out: they moved to a house, close to her mother's, so she could help them raise the boy. At first, it went wonderful, but one day the baby fell ill. He had a fever and the best thing the parents could think of, was lowering his body temperature by putting him in a bathtub with cold water and icecubes for more than an hour. He stopped crying, so they thought they did good. Only when he became unresponsive, they called the grandma. He was rushed to hospital and almost died of hypothermia and a pneumonia. From that day on, the boy lived with his grandmother and he was not allowed to be with them alone until he was old enough. (He is 28 now and doing fine). So, besides love you also need a minimum of intellect to know what to do in several sitiations.

What saddens me about the court related scenes is that it all started when the random undercover hooker got Sam in trouble. Because she associated with the police, Sam had no choice but to explain his position as a father. This is what lead to that social worker dropping by in the middle of Lucy's birthday party after the police got the whole story.😔
Unfortunately, in the world not all people are good. But even within the least expected people, there is a light that dazzles and wipes out all darkness. In the end, these are the ones who always win out.
I like Sean Penn. His role in this movie was incredible.

3:45 and that moment where she kicks down his door and reveals herself to him are the most erotic moments ive EVER seen on film. the way she takes care of him and makes a man of him while he also brings out her caring and content, quiet side.
