  • Neil McCauley at Resurrection Rebinds does some ridiculously good work. He has employed a few new methods recently that have taken his work to an entirely new level. In addition to that he has found a source for kangaroo leather. It was SHOCKED at how much I love this leather. It’s soft, yet strong. Check it out.
If you want to order a custom rebind from Neil, or if you want to buy a completed one from his store, you can do that at his website below.

I’ve had kangaroo meat before. It’s pretty good, but since I live in the southern US, it’s pretty hard to come by here.
I also am wanting to get him to do a kangaroo rebind of one of my Bibles, so I’m really happy to see a review for it! I love your videos, and you’ve sparked a passion in me for collecting Bibles.

Yes in Australia some of us eat Kangaroo, just like you guys eat deer, I have a kangaroo skin on my floor its over 30 years old and has worn very well, so i can see a bible cover lasting a life time.

G'day Tim, I grew up eating Kangaroo meat and Wallaby meat. it's beautiful and very lean. You would be a guest of Honour at our Aussie BBQ if you ever come to Australia.
Aussie Wine Aussie Beer Kangaroo meat or Lamb or Beef. We will look after you.
Great presentation and they are some beautiful bibles.

Growing up I hunted a lot of kangaroo/wallaby to put meat on the table. Growing up poor in the Australian bush meant that kangaroo/wallaby was our equivalent of deer to our American counterparts. For those who haven't eaten kangaroo the closest I can describe it is a slightly stronger flavoured deer but even leaner (if you want to make burger patties out of it you need to add fat or the patty will just not stick together). About the only part that might have some fat is the tail which makes excellent stews.
Kangaroo leather is soft and stupidly strong/tough. As a bible cover I would expect kangaroo leather to outlast just about every other leather.
And don't worry about the kangaroo population, kangaroos aren't endangered. Kangaroos out number the human population of Australia and there are more now than pre European settlement.

Rebinding is super expensive, I had a special New Testament Interlinear rebound and it cost about $350 US which is very expensive.

Between kangaroo and goatskin, which leather option is most scratch resistent?

Do you have a recommendation for a good “bang for your buck” rebind company?

ICA, Rugged Cross, Logos, Reformed and Rebound can all get you in the $300ish range depending on what you want. If you want less than that you have to gamble with someone who is new and unproven. Rex Rebinds is also good and affordable, but he’s also extremely busy and only does it as a hobby.

Using the same skin liner on the end sheet makes these rebinds stand out in elegance IMO. About using kangaroo leather... 😬. But nice that you started with that brief explanation on that matter.
