I swear, as soon as a job gives me a list of strange rules, I’m waking tf out! And if it was something I didn’t have a choice on, you bet your butt I’m following every single one of them 😂 Thank goodness this guy followed them, listening to stories where the main character refuses to follow the rules is like when you are watching a horror movie and you are screaming to the protagonist, “NOOO!! Don’t go in there!!! The RULES!!!!” 😭🤣 Thanks for another great story here AND on your other page! You are so multi talented, great narrator, and you are also hilarious on lighthouse stories!🖤
Especially considering in almost every rule stories the MC start out thinking the rules are some joke or initiation and ignore them until something bad happens.
True. He recited all of the rules except that one when he returned. I wonder if him returning didn't "count" because he hadn't completed the job. 🤔 This is why I try not to think too hard about this stuff. 😂
Man these are always the best, this just helped me stay awake and focus enough to finish a test lol. I wish there was a way to submit stories to you directly though, I have one that feels all too perfect for your channel
I often play a little mental game of 'Pasta Cliché Bingo' while listening; you know the stuff: "It was quiet; too quiet" "I released a breath I didn't realise I'd been holding" "There was a strange, metallic smell I couldn't quite place" - authors could definitely use a thesaurus!!

They can be quite cool, this one was pretty decent. Still, most of them suffer from an overly formulaic approach. A massive issues with how people write rules stories is that they are too eventful, and as soon as the MC reads the rules, all events on the list start happening back to back. That's far too convenient, and ridiculous, takes away from the creepiness instead of slowly building it up. They tend to be devoid of meaning too a lot of the time, seemingly random and arbitrary, rather than all being connected between eachothers, or a plot point/theme. Like "oh also the dude in jester outfit will ring at midnight, open the door, say hello then bye close the door" MC finishes reading the rule and looks up, ding dong it's the jester "hello, bye" slam, moving on, next rule. The rules should serve to build some sort of horror or creepy tension, and not necessarily be some kind of distinct event everytime either.
When first listen to a few like that… I thought I hate the ‘rules’ stories. Now I love them. 😂 and look forward to them I think I never really paid much attention and didn’t remember what was said.
He talked to the creature. The rules where specific. If someone starts to talk to you, you only responds with, "I'm here to exterminate", and nothing else.
Hello again Stephen, I love both channels of yours, On your new channel you make me laugh, Then on this Channel there are rules, Scary stories. Please don't stop. Thank you
I’m going to write a rules story about what to do when you break the rules. Who to call when you’re in Barney. Then I’m going to attach your story about writing rules that are realistic that we can apply instead of just getting stuck. Great idea.
I always want to know what happens to people who break too many rules. Some of these stories lack scary consequences. That'd be a great series. People breaking a series of rules until they hire the right person. 😊
Great narration. I got a perfectly timed mid-roll ad as an extra bonus: "It wasn't a room, it was a tunnel. I stepped inside. *I accidentally kissed a dragon and now her father wants me to marry her*" 😂😂😂
You had a voice in this one i haven't heard before. It was perfecti and very scary for the creature inside. Great story. I honestly thot u would take the next job
I think it would be pretty interesting to hear a story from the perspective of the person handing out these jobs. I just imagine them being so disappointed that people keep dying and just so exhausted and annoyed at having to work day and night shifts till thru find another hire lol. Maybe even getting sassy with the entities cause they're so used to the rules lol
As much as I love this channel im getting very tired of all of these Rules stories, not just here but all channels I have never been a rules story fan to begin with but some are actually very good and lighthouse has done several I enjoy I just wish we can get some more non rules stories again and I know im not alone. I really liked this one, thanks Stephen! Seriously though, no preparation or forewarning about what the job was about, just "Exterminator"? Then at the end, "What did you learn?" That's it!? Dude! Yup, I would've quit too. Sayonara creepy bossman!
Are the rules-stories on the rise again? I don't hate the trope, but it feels like they're everywhere right now. Wnd let's be real, it's lazy storytelling and fine once in a while, but not when it's everything that gets written in what feels like a month. Only giving this one a chance, because you're a stellar story teller and usually have a good choice of stories. Let's see where this goes...
This was great. As far I know he is the first protagonist that I came across that said I quit. Honestly I do not blame him. Some of these rules horror stories should be be put in other forms of media. Because how much depth that have. Heck a table top board game if possible.
Many jobs have certain rules. Safety, cleanliness, politeness, Customers are always right! This guy was breaking rules before he even started! He also broke the last rule! He suffered consequences!!! You betcha he did!!!😮❤😮❤😮
I truely get excited when I see a new lighthouse video on here or the other channel. I wish I was a good enough writer for you to read one of my short stories on here I think I'd bout pass out with honor
I love the stories but more so your commentary so funny. And yet I bet that you could absolutely follow all the rules to a t. Thank you once again for a wonderful story evening.
ooh! that last line! some jobs aren't worth the paycheck, yeah some demand too much for too little and some the pay is to big for something too sinister, sometimes dignity and integrity is better than a fat wallet!
Honestlly he did mess up a lot of the rules . If you pay close attention, the biggest issue starts from when he talks to the assumed owner. Considering the ghost like movement it was also probably a creature he shouldn't have talked to.
It's probably too late to do anything about it, but I noticed in the opening image of the video, the word "exterminator" in the wanted notice on the door is misspelled. Just trying to help.

Finally a guy with sense, that job would have been the end of him
He broke the rule by going to the same house twice. So I wonder how he was allowed to leave and walk away
A lot of these stories are fun, but have arbitrary and ambiguous rules with contradictions.
Maybe the rule meant don't go back after the job
@@lordbeerus462 yea because I was waiting for that realization that he broke the rule by going back and become trapped in the walls or something

no the rule was not to go more than twice. Basically you have to realize that the job was never meant to be completed in a day but two.
