  • Meteorologist Grant Skinner gives an update on the tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking Beryl. The storm is approaching the Texas Gulf Coast with maximum winds of 70 mph as of 7 p.m. Sunday. Beryl is expected to strengthen Sunday night before making landfall early Monday morning. A weakness in an upper-level ridge protecting the Northern Gulf Coast allowed Beryl to curve to the northwest and eventually north this weekend. Dangerous storm surge, flash flooding, and strong winds are expected for eastern parts of Texas into Monday, and heavy rainfall will spread inland throughout the course of this week. Hurricane warnings and storm surge watches and warnings have been issued for the Texas Gulf Coast.
