Size and posturing is one thing, being able to use the military is another. You need good leadership and good morale and good logistics. While the military is large there is no indication that they can maintain their forces in a prolonged conflict. Wars are never over quickly like the war that was fought from 1950-53 and even then they needed direct support from both China and Russia. The fact that one defecting soldier had parasites in him suggests things are not that good in their military.

Honestly their artillery is hardly a threat. They constantly claim they can wipe out Seoul with thousands of artillery pieces, but the reality is they only have less than a hundred that can each Seoul and they also suffer from serious logistical issues. More pieces do not mean more fire power because they lack enough ammunition. Also, their artillery cannot even scratch a concrete building. Imagine what it would be like against South Korea's tanks.
How good is their air defense? How many sams? The older MIGS wouldn't last long against modern aircraft. Can they defend against modern aircraft using sams?

Then starts the bombardment of every bunker, SAM site (mostly 70s tech like SM-2) armoured units and obviously, carpet bombing the artillery directed at Seoul. It would be interesting to see how much damage they can actually do. The North Koreans are half starved, the guns are old and of bad quality. I am not too sure about ammo stock and training is laughable at best so I doubt each gun can fire fast. South Korean tanks would push and try to get them anyway. The F35 will absolutely massacre the north Korean air force. I don't even think they would be able to detect the F22, F35 or any sort of aircraft with a decent enough ECM. KPA is large since its basically the whole population at war if needed but you have to remember that the most important weapon of war is information and technology. Both of which North Korea is decades behind and without a strong industry they wouldnt be able to get in another decade.

Flexibility is only exercised in lower units to accomplish that one task if the commander is killed. The Chinese and North Koreans only halted an attack if they lost more people taking one objective in an operation. The Communist had a mentality of an army of ants. Swarm a position and get to the enemy's rear no matter the casualties and continue fighting until your foe is defeated beyond which they can recover. That in my opinion is the North Korean tactic indoctrinated into all of their armed forces.

Also, the difference is that they have limited nukes .unlike the Soviet Union which owned the second-largest nuclear weapon stockpile. KPA is large since its basically the whole population at war if needed but you have to remember that the most important weapon of war is information and technology. Both of which North Korea is decades behind and without a strong industry they wouldnt be able to get in another decade.

Infiltrate and attack, the North Koreans are of the same mindset too. In a top down command style there is no flexibility in command. Flexibility is only exercised in lower units to accomplish that one task if the commander is killed. The Chinese and North Koreans only halted an attack if they lost more people taking one objective in an operation. The Communist had a mentality of an army of ants. Swarm a position and get to the enemy's rear no matter the casualties and continue fighting until your foe is defeated beyond which they can recover. That in my opinion is the North Korean tactic indoctrinated into all of their armed forces.
