OMG, I've been needing to know this since I started using Reaper 2 years ago. This gives me the power to perfect my playing to the most minute detail by punching in and out instead of trying to nail it in one take, which takes forever!
Dude. Wow. Thanks so much. Because of you, I am beginning to realize that I only utilize about 5% of what Reaper has to offer. You're literally expanding the horizons of the kinds of projects I want to approach. Thanks again.
Kenny, what would we do without you? I mean that. I am profoundly grateful for these clear, concise tutorials. Nice when something genuinely affects the quality of your life...my recording life, anyway. :) THANK YOU!.
6:42 Holy smokes. This is a game changer! This is going to make things WAAAY easier. Time to get to work on finishing that EP... Thanks a million, sir!
I started learning Reaper a week ago and these tutorials are just as bad ass as the DAW. I always find the answer I'm looking for. I'm already prepared to record this weekend and I'm looking forward to this new workflow.
This is amazingly phenomenal! I tend to record many tricky guitar tracks and using the takes in auto punch-in/out looped mode really makes things a lot easier! Thank you!
Fantastic help thanks - 2020 lockdown means I'm not gigging so getting the Helix hooked up to Reaper and trying to get used to it for more than just playing with backing tracks and editing rehearsal recordings!
This is the one I’ve been looking/waiting for! Lockdown has meant no gigs so I’m recording me playing all instruments in my studio with no help. Hard to manually punch in while playing guitar, bass and keys - impossible when playing drums. I’ll be using the info in this video tomorrow. Thanks Kenny 👍🏻
This is perfect, recording drums i'm away from the pc so need this to set up so i record the right parts as and when, i also change time signatures a lot so that helps. I'm thinking of getting a remote midi or usb trigger for this.
Thanks for this Kenny. The thing I'm having problems with though is my backing tracks aren't audible until the recording starts, which makes it virtually impossible to know when to play. I've got the metronome set to give me two bars count in, but I must have an option turned off somewhere that allows me to hear the backing track. I'm really confused by this.
So when I tried this today on a vocal track, it kept looping back to the beginning of the recording rather than continuing on after the punch out. How do I get it to keep going?
What is monitoring input tape Bordeaux style is it a vst..I'll try to find information about it but thought I'd ask anyway again ty for everything you do..
Andrew Stoddard I’ve been lost trying to follow instructions in the user manual. Kenny’s videos are informative and so much easier to follow and understand
I came to ask why he disables the "loop points linked to time selection". I'm completely new and I don't get it. I've tried both ways and didn't notice the difference. EDIT: I just understood it: ua-cam.com/video/I1Il-LhyMs8/v-deo.html one thing is the selection of the punch-in and the other one the one of the loop , once you disable that option.
it must be something that I am doing wrong, but I can get Reaper to punch in, then it goes back to the original punch in point at the end of the time selection and starts recording again. If I extend the time selection all that is happens is that the new recording goes on for too long and replaces items that I don't want. I have followed you instructions exactly. It's still messed up! Punch out seems to be lacking?
I don't seem to have the cursor that allows me to select a section of track. What am I doing wrong? I have everything set up exactly how you describe it.
make sure it touches the empty space in the Arrange canvas outside of the item boundaries and if time selection and loop are linked, simply drag over the ruler

I think you created Reaper, lol. The only hard part to all this is trying to remember to set everything back to the original settings, and what those setting were.
Kenny, say I'm using tape style for punching in and I do a few passes but later decide I want pass 2 instead of 3. Can I switch back to normal and retrieve my takes or are they gone forever?

Kenny, you're doing a great service to us lowly, non-technical musical enthusiasts. Many thanks.
I Always learn something just ridiculously useful from your videos.
I love you Kenny, literally any question I have I can count on you for a perfect tutorial on it 🙌🙌🙌
This will save so much time when recording complex guitar takes without having a free hand to start/stop the rec. Great stuff Kenny.
This is amazingly phenomenal! I tend to record many tricky guitar tracks and using the takes in auto punch-in/out looped mode really makes things a lot easier! Thank you!
This is a gamechanger thank you so much Mr. Kenny Gioia

Oh my god thank you for this, mind blown. Been using reaper for 7 years and just found out about this
I use this feature to fix my drum parts...the pre-roll gives me a chance to get behind the kit. I love it!

Kenny, you are the best. Crystal clear. I was wondering how to punch with Reaper. After your tutorial, I´ll give it a try. Thanks a lot.
Amazingly well done tutorial. Thank you :)
great info and videos thanks man you're a wonderful human.
Thank you Kenny 👍
Me: Oh, auto punch on time selection is cool. Don't know if there is a way to do several punch-ins in one shot...
Reaper: Hold my beer.
Excellent video and very, very helpful. Thank you!!
Just what j needed ! Thank you so much !
Bravo Kenny !!!!!!

Maybe is the monitoring turned off or wrongly set?
thank u once again kenny!!!!!!
thank you so much for this video! ♥
Thank you for the simple explanation
Very nice! Thank you!

Thank you, Kenny, this is very hard to understand in the manual.
What is monitoring input tape Bordeaux style is it a vst..I'll try to find information about it but thought I'd ask anyway again ty for everything you do..
You da man kenny - thanks for the solid info !
Nice! I was just thinking about figuring out how to do the auto punching the other day but didn't have the time to research it.
Andrew Stoddard I’ve been lost trying to follow instructions in the user manual. Kenny’s videos are informative and so much easier to follow and understand
Thanks Kenny G!!!
cool and useful
what to do if something is played earlier before punching in and we want that , how to get those items
I love the trick to unlock the loop selection.
I came to ask why he disables the "loop points linked to time selection". I'm completely new and I don't get it. I've tried both ways and didn't notice the difference. Hey does Reaper have anything like the Audio Track Record Lock as in Pro Tools ?
hi sir how is the setting why you punch track separated after recording how to take that thanks
Thank you so much for this!

@@djabthrash Yes, that was it. I managed to find it the week after. I was a Reaper newbie back then.. lol

How are you selecting your time area, i dont get that cursur that you have

reaper has so many options 😳
I think you created Reaper, lol. The only hard part to all this is trying to remember to set everything back to the original settings, and what those setting were.
Just what the doctor ordered, thanks Kenny :)
Kenny, say I'm using tape style for punching in and I do a few passes but later decide I want pass 2 instead of 3. Can I switch back to normal and retrieve my takes or are they gone forever?
Just wondering if there's a way to autopunch just fa position like in Pro Tools ... you set a preroll and you're ready to go!
Yes. REAPER starts on where the edit or play cursor is. So if you set a pre-roll in the metronome, it won't start recording until you get there.
THX for your tutorial :)
Man I hope reaper is paying u handsomely my guy! 🙏🏾
Just brilliant (Kenny I mean)
Nice tricks
3:57 - Punching in and out hands-free
You're the best - thanks!
I have a video upload "reaper scarlett messed up recording" if anyone can help please take a look. When I record that is how the audio comes out,.
Lol you newer played that second chord correctly
god i wish reaper had a quick punch in mode :( such an oversight to have so many features but not this
If you just press Record (Ctrl + R on PC), doesn't it behave the same as 'quick punch-in mode" ?
!!!
