    I really enjoy how in all of your videos, you start with the slow, manual way of doing something so you can explain exactly why you do each part of a task; THEN you move on to "Oh, and by the way, this is how you do all of that automatically, or much more efficiently."

      Still, I’m saying this as an advice, but don’t rely on this to make you sound on time, never stop practicing with a metronome! It sucks, I know, but in the long run, it’ll make you better, more on time and less time spent on editing! Cheers!

      @@charlespetitclerc1256 True. Same thing goes to vocal. I learned that it's better to learn proper technique rather than spending so much time on EQ, stretch/warp, or tuning. For example I wasted my time trying to fix nasally voice when it could've been fixed with a retake lol.

    Great guide Kenny - just a quick note.
    When using dynamic split to add stretch markers by detecting the threshold of the transients, the option 'Display gate threshold in media items' isn't checked by default, which makes setting the threshold correctly more time consuming and difficult, sine you're then forced to use your peak metres. The dialogue window for the gate also isn't floating by default, as seen in this example.
    Awesome guide, just wanted to leave a comment in case other Reaper users struggle with this option. Keep up the good work! :)

    Fun fact : I noticed after doing this that there were some blue stretch markers , the rest were red . When I played back these sections the blue parts were out of sync . By dragging these markers down to match the red ones “ everything “ was now perfectly synced . This is a game changer for me because now I can alter my creation process. Usually I create a drum track 1st and build around it BUT now I can start with any instrument or even vocals and perfectly sync everything else afterwards. THANK YOU SO MUCH !

    • @dustyoverstreet648
      @dustyoverstreet648 3 роки тому

      Thats totally possible but keep in mind that your mileage may vary when it comes to some instruments especially those without super clear transient dynamics. If you try to do this with something with a long release or a bassline with constant signal you'll introduce unnatural sounding "artifacts".

    Hey Kenny. Can you make a video about adjusting bass to the rhythm of the drums and not to the grids? I have a problem that everything was recorded more or less in rhythm with the drums, only bass line and acoustic guitar is are out of the rhythm because actually it's a fault of the drums player. Instead of recording again drums and bass, then acoustic, electric and 4 violins, cause it's impossible because of bass player and drums player not willing to do it (it's a nonprofit project) I'd like to resolve it with only recording acoustic guitar after I adjust bass to the rhythm of the drums. Is it possible to do it? And how?

    Nice, I'll try the "transient guides" next time. I use the stretch markers as you shown, for quickly aligning my guitar parts.
    The thing I regret is it is a "hard" quantize, you need extra scripts to be able to quantize with a percentage and have a more natural feeling, while still doing this automatically.

    • @tavomb
      @tavomb 4 роки тому +2

      add a compressor (like ReaComp) with a ratio of 4, threshold getting about 6db of gain reduction, fast attack, fast release, then with an eq (ReaEQ for example), cut everything under 100 or 150Hz, if you feel like it lower the mids around 500hz, and boost the top end maybe about 2Khz and above by 2db or something, add reverb (ReaVerbate) at the end, but dont go too crazy on the wet value, keep it lower than you might think, again, all of this values really depend, on the sound of the beat you are using, the tone of the voice, and the mic used, if you get stuck with the fx settings, you could look up Kenny's videos on those specific plugins i mentioned, good luck

    Kenny, I used pro tools as my learning DAW, but now I am using and loving reaper. When using warp or stretch markers in pro tools, the computer was using a lot of RAM or CPU )If I had multiple tracks with these markers) so I had to press something like "Commit to elastic audio" to make pro tools render or something the selected track ... • @dustyoverstreet648
      @dustyoverstreet648 3 роки тому +1

      It's not universal. Warping audio isn't magic and needs specific conditions to produce a perfectly natural sound. If you stretch too far the algorithm the repitching can't handle it no matter what settings you use. Signals with little to no dynamic range will be very difficult to edit and the process of using the fast method of inserting markers on transients will probably not work. The example given here has pretty ideal dynamic range for warping. Make sure you have a stretch marker on every single transient in the track and don't stretch too far and you should be able to get good results with a bit of fiddling. May I ask what type of track you where trying this on?

  • @joelmanthis9523
    @joelmanthis9523 Рік тому

    F*** sake, it was this simple all along. Dynamic split adds stretch markers with the ability to modify the sensitivity as well as delete unnecessary markers. THANK YOU KENNY for the medicine to relieve my headache, I am a Bass player in a band where mainly the guitar player has always had a problem with trying to lead the foundation and a drummer who can't resist the urge to stop listening to me and follow the guitar player instead. Which anyone who knows, is like just a matter of a few Bars and Measures from acceleration of the tempo and its so hard to reel them back in once they start walking off track. It's frustrating. So I have finally conceded that I have to teach myself to be the engineer who edits the problems out and mixes everything properly because years have been wasted on thousands of takes that apparently paying the going rate for local sound studios (which in So. CA is a premium) who invest a lot of money into studio equipment they obviously don't know how to use. Anyway, thank you, I learned what to do and I know exactly how I can use dynamic splits now.
