People that are feeling this exercise more on their chest aren't pushing up the weight over their abdomen but rather are pushing over their chest like a normal bench press (a lot more help from the chest then). A lot of instability and tricep engagement if push over a lower point

Hey Scott, I love your videos and they are really helpful. I do the dumbbell bench press instead of the barbell bench press, and wonder whether this dumbbell triceps press is better than the close grip barbell bench press for targeting all three heads of the triceps? Thanks a lot for everything!
@Noc4ball Look at how engaged his pectorals are while he's doing this. While the closer grip may put MORE emphasis on the tri's than wide grip does, this is no more a tricep press than a close grip benchpress is a tricep isolating exercise.
I have serious wrist injury, so can you please upload a video on ideas for workouts with less pressure on had joints?
Looking at this guy he clearly knows what he's doing, but surely this exercise is gonna out a lot of strain on your rotator cuffs. I've had a few minor aches in one of my shoulders in the past, so I wouldn't wanna risk trying an exercise like this.
Elbows too. The best exercises for triceps always come with too much risk. Rope pushdowns are the safest thing, but they grow well enough with normal chest presses, I think.

MANUTD4LIFE171 How so? this exercise is definitely safer for and easier on your shoulders than any other kind of bench press since your shoulders are externally rotated, you come down much lower than in a regular bench press and your hands are not fixed by a barbell. If anything, this exercise puts a lot of stress on elbows and biceps. But if you warmup with a couple light sets of pushdowns and curls this won't be a problem.

The bench press is naturally a compound movement. Notice his grip and how he keeps his elbows close to the body; this puts more emphasis on the triceps.
I discovered a great thing to get big, not so fast thoug, but it works, and you dont have to buy nothing, the secret is to train hard, eat well and rest.

I understand that. That's why I called it a compound exercise. Obviously the chest is going to be engaged during the movement. And I don't think anyone ever considred the close-grip bench press to be a tricep isolating movement :/ Both movements recruit the chest still. In fact, that's what Scott was aiming for. He wanted to mimic the close-grip bench press with dumbbells and a slight variation in the grip.
Respond to this video... as soon as they start to workout. You will need the extra protein to rebuild. but be sure to fully stock up on food first!

The variation of dumbbells is extremely useful for a small person like me ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 But the dumbbell size being large it's hard to do certain exercises like deadlift ( I have to have my hands and legs a bit wider to accommodate the size of the DB )Otherwise happy with the purchase. No excuse not to lift weight when it's snowing outside.
@DaLeadBull nope, since your hands are in line with your bellybutton your chest doesn't get worked as much !
and most pushing motions don't work your biceps that much either. Your chest, abs, bis, shoulders are all engaged but your triceps get the majority of the work !

@OurBestMusicChannel My joints crack when I do push ups too, yet I have been doing push ups for 3 years. I know I'm not over loading because I've stuck with this weight for the past 3 months.

This work more upper chest then tricep, also benching just below the chest takes all the strain of the shoulders , its great exersize but ti works more chest then tri's
not tried this workout yet, you should try skullcrushers for triceps ;)

Now, Im not saying this doesnt give your triceps a great workout. However, it doesnt matter at all if you let your hands face towards or away from your face. Triceps isn't attached to your bones that way. Just check your anatomy book.
Also, it's the chest and shoulder that lift the upper arm towards the sky, and thus it makes this more of an exercise for those muscles, rather than a triceps-exercise.
Triceps extend your arm, aswell as pulling it down. Chest/shoulder lifts up your arm.
Hey scott what do you think would be a more effective accessory movement for the bench press, this movement or the dumbbell floor press? I feel the floor press would be more safer using heavier weight, but what do you think?

@MrEstk no there isnt, if shortness runs in your family then yes the chance is yes but weight training wont. your 17 and you want to get taller, intake alot of calcium everyday dont miss a day without calcium, your growth plates are still OPEN at your age, the more calcium you get in you, the bigger and stronger the bones will become specialy at your age while you have your growth plates open, growth pates shut at the age of 25 ish

Any pressing movements will involve your chest. This movement just focuses more on the triceps instead

There's no age start lol. It's supplementation just like vitamins. Just don't overuse it at the risk of screwing up your kidneys. But that is a massive dose to do that.

It's cool, I've been lifting since 2009.. but I've only been serious for about a solid year, and with huge determination, my physique is almost up there with Scott's. Next goal: Rob Riches haha :)

How does this exercise the triceps differently than a tricep french press? I know they are different exercises, not sure how they affect the triceps.
