I like to run the grav/ high intensity build with salamanders , swarmers are good too
though the tachyon beam setup I generally prefer, because it can disable targets which plays well into the long range... that fit i'd generally use something like the swarmer srm on for the lower fitting costs. HIL is available earlier and more often for sure, and is a little less demanding than tachy
in your 1v1's - try to leverage range more, you can fight the mining cruiser and win if you just stay at the edge of YOUR range and wear it down. This is going to require some flux management and face tanking its lighter volleys. You also would want to be paying attention to possible cost/benefit exchanges of tanking its shots with your shield or your armor. Ballistic weapons like its using, you can safely soak those on your armor for quite a while... but are expensive to catch on your shields. Ideally you want to keep the lasers up and your shields DOWN as often as possible, and sometimes dropping your shields will let some shots miss your hull entirely. The shields being up effectively makes you a bigger target, and some shots would miss you if you drop those shields :) watch for them! Sunder is not a tanky ship at all, but if you have to wear down a slower cruiser , you're going to need to drop the shield tank and accept some incoming weaker volleys on your armor (or drop shields and dodge)
if you have issues with flux , put the high intensity laser on a different weapon group as your grav beams and engage both with your special ability, but manually manage and stop firing the high intensity and get some efficient damage/flux exchange via gravs on the enemy shields until your ability is ready again or you're closer maxing the venture's flux out. Its a winnable fight !

Appreciate the advice! I do like high intensity lasers on the Sunder, usually ended up as escorts for capital ships. However, like you and Grumpy mentioned, the tachyon lances can disable, so I think I'll definitely need to try them out. Though I am phasing out destroyers in general since they seem to die to remnants fast...

@@lisotte grumpy is much better at this game than I am :)
Sunders and Manticore are usually the last destroyers I phase out, or at least the last of the slower destroyers... but they're great fire support for cruisers and more capital size ships! Until you need your support dealing with multiple capable harassing units to protect your cruisers... sunder really wrecks frigates it can catch out.
if you're planning to campaign against the remnants for a while, i'd suggest building a comp around them and storing ships you don't currently need at one of the abandoned stations if you aren't already. Rent is free! plus as ships get more expensive to upkeep & crew, its nice to have the ability to stash away the ones you don't absolutely need to have along right now

I think you're on the right track, but try a tach lance instead of a HIL. Then if you have more flux to spare you can swap for a railgun over a Vulcan cannon.

Thanks for the tip, I'll need to give that a try! I've still stuck with this same build for a bit now and I'm down to test more things especially since instead of using it randomly in a kitchen sink fleet, now using it as the escort for bigger ships in a fleet. Does it pretty well, popping frigates, damaging destroyers, poking larger things.

@@lisotteyeah, definitely experiment. the sunder is so versatile, it's one of my favorite ships for sure. I have a few "unorthodox" builds on my channel. the playlist is called Ship Showcase.

TBH kinda works now with escort package as a support stick you glue to a bigger ship.

Eh, I just use Sunders as Tachyon Lance platforms, until I can get something not made of glass to carry them instead. They don't have enough survivability for bigger fleet engagements. Tho with some pimped out Monitors in the mix, and some micro, they can be very effective. It's just a pain keeping them in one piece.

I found them pretty good in the mid-game as longer ranged stuff to throw in my fleet, helped protect the bigger ships, if that makes any sense.
They of course just would get destroyed in the endgame from redacted, so I ended up dropping destroyers entirely and as it turns out, Omens can be indestructible, almost as much as a Monitor, but with some fun lightning stuff.

@@lisotte Fr, a capital as an anchor, cruisers as workhorses, and frigates for utility/distraction. Destroyers just aren't meant for large engagements. Which is also realistic, they were patrol craft and convoy escorts in most historical naval doctrines.
Or just get an Odyssey and a couple Monitors and steamroll everything, that works too

I need more small ship buildouts! I have no idea what I'm doing lol. Do you have a build for hammerhead? I'm trying a Captain Hammer meme build.

Hey sorry for the late reply! As a matter of fact, I do have a hammerhead build! I really, really love SO overdriven builds for hammerheads and dominators. Here's the vid:
