  • Today we continue the Harbor Freight Offroad Trailer build!
    This was a rough week lol. It was close to 100 degrees outside and that made a huge difference on output in the shop. The good news is even though a few things didn't go the way I wanted them to, we still made progress on the trailer. Next week... Electrical!!!!
    And I guess I need to finish all this paint work as well. So, what would you do? Should I give the vinyl another shot? OR buy some orange paint and do this the old fashion way? Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the video! In two weeks, this trailer will embark on its first overland trip!

      @@DirtLifestyle You have to heat that vinyl the rough texture will still give you issues. If you have a good surface and put this down and heat it or let it sit in the sun it will become VERY hard to get off without a heat gun.

  • @AJvsEverything

    One other upside to gloss is that dust and dirt won't stick to it as easily as it does to matte finishes...the orange looks good...my first thought is always "how hot is it gonna get inside once the sun hits it" and so I tend to sway towards lighter colors whenever possible...

    • @keithlea6804

    • @crisnevin7934
      @crisnevin7934 2 роки тому

      Also, the flatter it is, the more heat it will pick up. The gloss will reflect more of the light leaving less heat energy.

    To me the big advantage behind vinyl is graphics. If you want to do fancy cool ass images then vinyl is THE way. But if you are just gonna go with some single color or maybe 2 colors...paint it. No harm in trying something new though. Thanks for sharing it with us, Nate.

    Nate, I have my own HVAC company that I started this year after working in the trade for 9 years. Most recent was Local 572 pipefitters and service technicians union.
    I’d be happy to fly out and install some ductless mini splits in your shop.
    Heating capacities to -10 ambient and 100% cooling capacity up to 110 on some units. The experience would be amazing. If interested, feel free to reach out.

    This week was brutal! We were close to 100 degrees outside and by the end of each day it was definitely more than that in the shop. Needless to say productivity took a hit lol. This weekend was the first time we have been below 100 for 2 days in a row in North Mississippi for quite some time. We are also stay about 65-90% humidity depending on the time of day. So I feel your pain. I put the biggest window unit I could find in my shop and it keeps it around 80-85 on those super hot days.

      @shitloveaduck 2 роки тому

      We don’t get quite that hot here in Alberta Canada, but have hit 100 a couple days this year in my area and had many days in the 90s. I have a big swamp cooler set up for a fan that blows air through a filter (kinda like a car filter, but 3 ft x 3 ft, and a water container which is then pumped evenly over the filter. It works really well. It’s never cold in there, of course, but more than bearable and it filters the air so hopefully helps when you are painting.

    We are all jelous how wild you can go on a vehicle. Soon as we take a grinder to the chassis or suspension it needs to be certified (engineered) by an official tester linked to the department of transportation. Can be done but near impossible on anything that has t/c stability control 🥲.

    You might want to change out that air filled castor wheel with a solid rubber one. I’ve tried that castor on a gate and it failed. Solid rubber will last longer and not puncture the tube. Just remember to get the same size and not worry about trying to get the exact center hub offset. Since the rim is a two piece and the solid rubber tire rim is a two piece also, you can transfer the tire. Plus those drill/tap bits should be used in the impact driver. Don’t know why, but it does work.

      Thank man, I appreciate the positive feed back! The Trailer series should get wrapped up in the next couple weeks, Then I finish building my Tacoma and prep it for Ultimate Adventure 2022. after I get back I will be working on either manual swapping the Discovery (2 episodes) Or I finish building a Top secret project (4 Episodes) I bought. If you have ever seen a show called extreme 4x4 I had a chance to buy my favorite project that they built on the show. I wasn't in the market but I couldn't say no to such an important piece of offroad history. I think I can get it running in a month or so. So I'm thinking I will start building the TDI TJ in November. But this will be worth the wait I promise. And if you like the tdi TJ you will LOVE the crawler I bought from Extreme 4x4 😎. If you know my taste it's easy to guess what I rig I'm talking about...

    Oh man, the min you said you ordered 5ft instead of 6ft I remembered the sheet of steel cut at 5ft. Turns out not to be a big deal because the vinyl won't stick anyway. I would go with paint. That way you can always add vinyl decals if needed. (that would be a better surface for it).
    *That trailer is awesome* 👌

    Looks fantastic!! I have a Harbor freight build i did in 2015 using stainless steel and diamond plating. I’ll post some pictures later.
    FYI. That Harbor Freight tire pops super easy!!! I recommend changing over to a solid tire/wheel. Adding green tire goo doesn’t work well, either. The caster is tough but it has a tendency to separate around the bearings and get stuck in one direction after a while.
    Great meeting you at PNW Overland after your live Instagram at the Bowen both.
    Cheers!!!

    I use the drill/tap a lot. I have found it works best with the impact driver. Be careful and stay straight or it will snap the tap.

    Just watched this whole trailer build over the last couple days I might have a solution to the kitchen table conundrum. It's a little crazy, and complex, but you seem to be into that sort of thing. 😁Basically a counterweight and pulley system like the old vertical slider windows, but flipped and rotated. Couple cables, couple pulleys, couple slots in the side of the trailer, couple nitrogen struts in place of counterweights. Nitro struts so there's no counterweight bouncing, making noise. Basically a cable on each corner, runs up through the slot to a pulley for support, then runs to the end of the nitro strut mounted on the inside of the roof of the trailer, would hold the table up on the side of the trailer, so no heavy duty latch needed, also adjustable, end of the strut travel servers as stops, or simple cable clamps. Some creativity to make a hold down when it's deployed, hook latch, strap around the inside of the tire and a bungee, etc. Over engineered, but unique and self closing and retaining.

    Neat build. I suggest adding tire slime or like product in that little pneumatic castor tire as they always seem to loose pressure overtime.

    If you like the ability to peel off later but the for stability of paint. There is liquid wrap. Sprays on once it cures, you can peel back off like vinyl. There are many brands but Fonzi has a channel "Dip Your Car" or DYC showing the ins and outs of it.

    Colour Looks awesome, vinyl is great until you hook the first bush or tree and tear it. and then pressure wash it off.. Orange truck bed coating? Would make it trail and pressure washer friendly.

    Use tintable Raptor liner. Get yourself some orange base coat from a paint shop, mix it into the liner and spray. 👍 By the way, I love these collab videos. I follow all 3 of you individually and it was a cool surprise to see all of you in the same video.

    Sorry that didn’t workout but mad props for keeping it real and honest. Sometimes things don’t workout. Some reasons we can control and some we can’t but we jus gotta keep moving on.

    Yes, Paint it!!!! mostly because touch ups are much much easier as you know. Now if it were to match the Taco, then I would say wrap it.

    All roads lead to a built 2010 to 2013 4x4 Chevrolet Suburban with a Overland interior, especially while camping in Grizzly bear areas. Aluminum LS V8,ifs coilover front suspension , 5 link rear suspension, low first gear 6L80 transmission. All this other stuff is unnecessarily. WFO and Off-road Design are working on kits for them now. :)

    An orange raptor liner would be sick! Knowing what you know now would you have used rivets or riv-nuts instead of the drill and tap process??

    It looks good. The orange looks great. I would leave it matte. If its glossy it will show dirt and scratches
