You can add some jacks (like used on travel trailers) in the back of your trailer so you won’t need leveling blocks. 2x 5000lb jacks should be more than enough and are fairly cheap.
At my local junk yard they sell sisser Jacks from cars for 5$ 99% of them are new. I weld a nut on the end and use a cordless drill & nut driver, up/down zip zip.
@@mrpogi3 if the jacks have high enough rating they are good for leveling. The only reason that they tell you to use them for stabilizing only on RVs is because the jack or frame is under-rated (to reduce cost). If frame and jack are strong enough, they can be used for leveling (similar jacks are used to lift pickup trucks, so can surely level a tiny trailer)
This series has given me the inspiration to build my own! I'll probably watch these videos 100 times during the process. I have an old camper frame I plan to use.
There is nothing more important then getting your kids outside. I’m 53 and have taken my kids out dispersed camping from the beginning. They are all grown and gone doing their own thing, but they all still make time to get outside and enjoy nature. I have my parents to thank for that, and your kids will be thankful to you. Love your vids!! Keep doing what you’re doing!!
"What do we do when we go in a tunnel?" My thoughts were... no way is Nate's family going to holding their breath for 1.5 miles creeping through the tun... oh, yeah, honk. That's what you do in a tunnel.
I just learned about the holding your breath in a tunnel. I’ve always just honked. Being in a tunnel AND holding your breath is just anxiety waiting to happen lol
Good spaghetti was precious. Building memories for your kids , good for you guys. Glad to see how well the trailer is working and your plans for future adjustments. Keep enjoying my state.
Hear me out, Bad idea time. Instead of having spring suspension you have an airbag setup so when your on the trails you could come up with a way to articulate the air bags to level the trailer?
Here is an idea on the leveling challenge. Find things that work well to level the gladiator. Then put some cheap air bags in the springs on the trailer. Only use the air bags to level the trailer once you have leveled the truck.
I've been thinking of going this way as well. I already have a set of helper bags that I didn't use on the rover AND this is a rover axle with rover suspension... should work!
Such a good series for so many reasons! Building, experimenting, traveling, family, adventure. Your kids are very lucky to have a childhood that includes stuff like this. Thanks for the videos Nate. Great to see you outdoors again too.
"Problems". Nope, these are solutions. All the best Australian offroad and 4x4 manufacturers and designers spend up to six months a year testing their new gear and designs, and making the changes. Thats how the best stuff is made and you are in the process of doing that. Cant wait to see the real finished one!
I have appreciated every video and every step in this series. I remember not to long ago getting my daughter out camping, she was attached at my hip. This year she’s 8 almost 9, We brought one of her friends, they wanted to sleep in the hammocks or in their own tent. As we were breaking down she said dad next time we might need two sites, but together so you don’t have far to go when you bring us breakfast! Enjoy that time when your kids are clinging on and need to be in the tent with you because soon enough it will be a memory. Thanks for sharing!
I've been watching your channel for a long time and I'd like to say THANK YOU, for the videos and for sharing a moment with your family. The internet is a scary place to put out your most precious asset, once again thanks for sharing something really special like that, I was already a fan now I feel you appreciate my viewership. Keep up the vids, we're not going anywhere!
This trailer is just like any jeep/truck/ 4x4 build. You get it on the trail and USE IT. Then you modify it to better fit how you need it to function while on the trail. Great video with the family and the "maden voyage " of the trailer Nate. 👍 it's close to perfection and travels well on the trail. Congratulations!! 👍❤️🇺🇸
The kids at the end is exactly why im starting down my own journey like yours. My daughter, shes a child of the outdoors and I for one am glad to help her experience as much out of it as im able to. Thanks for the inspiration!
The next step of the organization of the trailer is definitely a must. The slide out would be the first thing and the second storage above the table would utilize that waisted space well. The suspension on it worked great out there on the trails and from the way you described it there is no problems on the freeways.
The most important message was at the very end, grab your kids, get your keys and go on adventure! I absolutely love taking my family and friends camping, there is nothing better than all the planning and hard work paying off. I wish there was a way to share pics of UA-cam I would post up my adventure trailer my wife and I have built here in KY until we can move out west lol.
I put a rat pack in my work van. It was a massive upgrade having drawer system to store stuff and not have to unbury it to get to it. I think you would want something taller but the same concept would be nice.
That was a really great preliminary wrap up of the trailer build. I am sure you will alter it in time to suit your evolving needs. Thought the table would be too high for the Misses. Lovely family Nate, God Bless.
none of those ideas you have are weird. just been enamered with this build. congrats on trailer build. great to see family out there Atwell. looking forward to more episodes.
I am in Montana myself. You got to see some beautiful scenery. It was fun watching your trailer work how you planned. I built a off road teardrop on a harbor freight trailer. Worked awesome. I am building a suburban right now as we have kind of run out of room in our Toyotas with our grandchildren. Hope to have it ready by the end of September. Enjoyed the video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. Maurice AKA BigSky Overlanding
Glad that there were no mechanical issues. Sliders for storage are a great idea. Looking forward to when you come back to this build. It must be satisfying to use what was lying around and turn it into a useable vehicle for family time. Thanks for the series. This was how I found your channel. Have a great day! Peace!!!
Great job! Good ideas for storage. I am definitely going to build one. Best memories of my childhood was camping and hunting with my Dad. Keep making memories!
Sitting in Manitoba watching this series. and gotta say I'm pretty jealous of all the trails and lands, and off road parks you folks have all across the USA, for doing this type of thing. Great series!!!!
I have a setup I made that fits neatly in a pelican case with a seaflo pump, and with water inlet and outlet points coming out of the case. The inlet hose has a weighted strainer to chuck into a creek and all powered by a makita tool battery so it can be at a stream away from camp. The pump doesn't seem to mind the extra voltage. Neat package, everything fits within the pelican case apart from the outlet hose.
My most favorite childhood memories are from camping adventures, and roadtrips. I never did have kids, but you can bet that if I did, I'd do this every chance I got. Thanks for bringing us along.
Fantastic. I really enjoyed watching all your hard work. Looking forward to when you come back and add more. Very educational for me. I was educated in the fact that, I do not have the time, tools or knowledge to pull this off. I had thought about it, but after watching you, it's a much larger challenge than I want to tackle.
hey nate, on my offroad trailer, we used a pair of pad style "implement trailer" jacks on each rear corner of the trailer to allow me to level my trailer super quick, takes less than 5 minutes when i get to camp, so i focus on the truck, and once thats done is easy. mine are removeable and mount to the fenders when not in use
Love the trailer build, the battery voltage on a standard car battery is 12.6 so the battery should be good and when you saw 13 volts it was being charged by solar. Either way always nice to have more power especially when you get a diesel heater and water pump setup going! Can't wait to see the progress!
I think you should manufacture a two drawer system next to the fridge. I think you could also build some double ended shelving that’s accessible from the back and the front.
After this long journey watching this trailer being built, it’s great to see it on the trail, being used as it should. Great series, looking forward to seeing its real finishing touches though.
Home sick and just basically bing-watched this series and loved it! I may not have done everything the same, but I'm not the one who uses it. Great job!
Hello Nate great channel. What I like about your channel is you are extremely good at what you do. You back it up with a great attitude and good values. That’s why I watch with my 6 year old son. He loves watching the builds and trips. I’m just trying to finish my 06 econoline with the ujoint off-road DIY kit. And we have learned so much from you thanks buddy.
I’ve got a tear drop and I added two extra jacks with drop legs for leveling and to stabilizing. You can also change a tire if you need. They work great.
Nate, looks a winner! great job! At the time of writing this I am on working a small project of making my own tail gate shelf, so yes you have given me inspiration to start doing these projects again! At 56yrs young I quit doing these projects because it was easier to just buy what you needed and mount it, but with inflation I feel the need to go back to my old ways and just make what I need . Thanks again Nate for getting me back in groove of things!!
I started building a camper trailer when my girls started walking :D Its been 12 years now and the trailer has just got better as our needs change and I tinker:) So many great memories. We have really enjoyed your series. Make it yourself!!! Thank you for showing us your talents Nate.
Large, 5th wheel style full pullout drawer in the back, WITH a copy above it, but that one is only a shelf that slides out. On the side, a similar port to the one on the right, but it also has slide out functionality. The back support is one side of the metal shell that encases the air intake filter, which also extends down to the floor of the trailer to have a small, locker type storage area that can be locked securely, and independently. But that’s just a few on my thoughts. You do you, sir, because it’s worked quite well for you so far, and you have far superior ideas and skill than me.
Great job on the trailer. I built one from scraas well. Spent 8 months building it and another 8 months tweaking and modifying it as we're using it. Actually finally finishing it up this weekend.
Electric scissor jacks can be had for around $100. If you take the time to wire them up and install, it makes leveling a breeze. A 12v water pump and tank also makes easy garden hose shower
seems not long ago that at 80% through the trailer build you announced you were done with youtube 😯… it’s awesome you were able to continue with youtube , and we got to follow the build until completion !!
In addition to a drawer slide next to the fridge, I'd put a slide on top of the drawer/cabinet to make access even easier. Kind of like a truck bed slide.
You and your family are super inspiring. I would like to do something like this with light truck trails and camping. Thank you for sharing with us! Daniel
Your battery droping to about 12.5 volts under load is normal for fully charged 12 volt lead acid battery. 13.5 volts measured after charging without any load on the battery is just a surface charge that will drop off in few seconds after putting load on the battery. If it stays above 11.5 volts until about half of the rated capacity is used up its good. (Hope this all made sense, english isnt my first language)
Definitely 2 drawers, and for the angled area in the back, flat containers, like for under bed storage, with maybe a rail setup to hold them so they will not flop around. Then add some kind of strap/handle that lets you easily pull them up and lower them down…
I have Espar bunk heaters in all of my semi sleepers. They are hands down the best. They are expensive but the quality, reliability, and temperature control is unmatched by others. The only time I've had issues is at over 12,000 feet. I have seen high altitude models but I do not have any experience with them. I won't travel without one. I haul in the mountainous west and even in the summer I've used it at night.
Watching Nate, Brad, Lite Brite, etc. has given me the realization I can't afford a new Wrangler or Gladiator with all the trimmings. No way. What I can do is breath a new set up on my XJ and bring it up to current from it's 20+ year old lift and outfit it to go overlanding. She may not have the gobs of room inside like a Wrangler, but the underneath is almost the same. First order of parts is on the way. New tires stacked up in the garage waiting. Needs a heater core and some minor mechanical buy overall the 4.0 is strong and I still daily it. 4x4 works perfect, and its only at 120k. I just might see you out there Nate! You and your team of UA-camrs have inspired me!
My suggestion for the area of your camper you wish to possibly put a drawer slide in, in which I love your idea. My suggestion would use a two-tiered system. Double decker slide out drawers. Using the same mesh system that you used for your full down exterior table on your trailer. You can still put sides on them if you wish, okay maybe I would put sides on them. But using that material it would keep your system light, very strong. Also you wouldn't have to lock yourself into one certain anchoring points, giving you more options on how and where you store your items. Meaning you could use a mesh tie down system / or even just simple bunches. Using the mesh material as your drawer slide, you be able to have endless anchor points for your supplies. You can move your stuff around freely, from upper shelf to lower shelf, seeing how it travels, without having to worry about how to mount down your items, keeping them in one place. Anyway, that's just my lame idea. Absolutely love how you used a variety of materials, I believe this is probably one of the best offroad campers I've ever seen, no joke. That suspension system is amazing, I loved how it got all flexy out on the trail. Love all the other ideas you're coming up with. Welding out on the trail, now I've got to see that one. Keep us posted on what solution you came up with on your drawer system, very interested in seeing what you have chose. Blessings to you and yours, safe travels.
It's good to know that others know about the unwritten law of honking the horn in a tunnel when your kids are in the car... Should be in the vehicle code book along with truckers having to honk their horn when kids raise their arm and pull it down.. :). Great to see that your hard work has payed off! Congrats on a job well done!
Nate, this trailer has been the inspiration on my Lowes 3x5 utility trailer build and given me the confidence to piece together videos of the progress Ive made. Thank you for what you do! “Off or From Adventures”
I used to have that same model of Runaway. Towing that through that stuff is BRAVE
It got wider axle and bigger tires right after this trip

Also they stabilize the trailer. So when you're wife is fighting a bear in her sleep it ain't rocking all over.
@@mrpogi3 do you only ever use things exactly what they are labeled? 2 5k Jack's will work wonderfully to level a light trailer like this.
@@mrpogi3 if the jacks have high enough rating they are good for leveling. Love seeing a Hummer H3 on the trail with you. Not too many of us out there.
This series has given me the inspiration to build my own! I'll probably watch these videos 100 times during the process. I have an old camper frame I plan to use.
The same here. I am a self taught welder but I feel confident enough I can build it. I like the cool spring setup better than leaf spring.
Nice!!! I'm so happy to hear it! Don't let trailer manufacturers have all the fun lol
I wanna try it too

That’s so awesome you brought out the SCX24’s to relax as well! Those little things are a blast!
Great stuff man. I like where your taking this series. Few things compare to quality time like that with the family.

I can't wait for more trailer stuff. Love this series!
I enjoyed watching the fabrication and problem solving along the way. Great series!
Airjacks tor leveling my friend :) You've already go the compressor mounted might as well use it.
Welcome to MT DL family! So hard to believe what the trailer started out as.
