It is. Bank video surveilance was in it's infancy in those days, and not many banks had begun using them. William (Bill) Harris of the SLA has testified they specifically looked for a bank to rob that had video camera's for the sole purpose of having an armed Patty Hearst positioned in full view of the camera as a willing participant while the robbery was underway. Bill also says that as the group was in the planning stages and discussing the idea of being knowingly filmed, it was actually the SLA's newest member Patty Hearst's own enthusiasm and encouragement that ultimately saw the decision to recon. for a bank with operational cameras.

For anybody caring. I lived on Compton Ave at 55th street in 2011. The Symbionese Liberation Army, along with Patty Hearst lived on Compton Ave at 54th Street in 1974. Every elder person that still lives in the neighborhood today from back in 1974 specifically told me that Patty Hearst was NOT kidnapped nor brainwashed. They all informed me how she would walk up and down Compton Ave all day long, while drinking and smoking. She was actually in a relationship with the head of the S.L.A. The home where they resided was shot up by law enforcement and the National Guard still stands. She used the kidnapping allegations to be able to convince the State of California to be lenient with her.
i also new a guy who was locked up with backpacker mass murderer Ivan milats brother, who said he was also involved in the killings, but like gossip, sometimes people are like chinese whispers

So was the concept of a forced statement just not something people knew about back then? There is literally nothing here that would make me believe she wasn't just being forced to act and issue statements against her will. Similarly this girl was part of one of the richest families in America, if she was really trying to help the SLA she could have just funded that 10 grand herself no problem. I really have no clue why her actually becoming radicalized was even considered as a possibility. Were detectives just that stupid back then? Were they trying to make her an example to discourage feminism? I really don't know, but I gotta say her acting willingly just does not add up at all.

She had many, many opportunities to leave. On one occasion she was left alone in a vehicle with the keys in it and an arsenal of weapons while her "kidnappers" went shopping (and shoplifting) across the street. When a scuffle broke out, she started to fire her weapons at the store staff to try to free her kidnappers/co-conspirators (and succeeded). Also, her family wasn't as cash-rich as was believed, and she certainly didn't have access to the quantities of money that would have funded the SLA. Stockholm Syndrome is a thing, I'm not judging her for it, but it's disingenuous of her to say she did everything out of fear.
She probably did not have access to "The Money" because "SHE" was good and she was Bad, no one understands, "SHE" was not in charge of her "RICH DADDY'S" money. She wasn't Forced. "she is on the run".

She served 22 months of a bank robbery conviction, until President Carter commuted her sentence in 1979. President Clinton gave her a full pardon on his last day in office in 2001. Two months after being released from prison she married a cop that had been part of her security when she was out on bail, they stayed married from 1979 until his death in 2013. She's 63 and lives in San Francisco.
